Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Erasing Memories, Kasha’s Golden Psyker Power

"So what about the Custodes? They won't know my true identity either? Can you wipe their memories as well?" Axis asked.

The power of a psyker was certainly convenient; erasing memories was as simple as a wave of the hand.

Kasha, for her part, couldn't hide the happiness on her face at all. She clearly didn't like the Custodes.

But why was that?

"If necessary, I can erase the Custodes' memories too," Kasha replied. "But they're the Emperor's personal guard. There's really no need to keep this particular matter from them. They'll return to Holy Terra and won't leak any information."

Without Sisters of silence around, even the Custodes could fall prey to a psyker's tricks.

If he wanted, Axis could have their memories wiped clean as well.

Besides, even among the Sisters of Silence, strength varied, those with weak null area of field effects couldn't withstand Kasha's psychic power, especially since her abilities were inherited directly from the Emperor.

Hearing this, Axis nodded.

The girl's psychic powers seem to be quite formidable.

This time, the Emperor had been rather accommodating.

Axis hadn't even needed to use the space communications relay on the scouter.

Still, Axis planned to tell the Emperor about that soon enough. Just not yet.

He needed a plausible excuse, like he and Russ "accidentally" discovering the scouter's communication capabilities during a battle, and realizing it could support interstellar communication.

Only then could he justify passing this technology along.

"Kasha, let's go issue orders to the Custodes," Axis said, "Tomorrow we'll begin the memory-wiping process. There are still quite a few people who know my true identity. We'll erase their memories and simply report that the Custodes handled this operation and escorted the prisoners away."

Kasha nodded, and the two of them immediately left the room and headed to the nearby Custodes' quarters, where all sixteen Custodian Guards were gathered.

"Shield-Captain Axis, do you have orders for us?" Caesar asked.

"Yes, I do," Axis said, "Kasha has already reported to the Emperor. The sixteen of you will pilot this destroyer back to Holy Terra, transporting the Second Primarch and all of his gene-progeny there."

"By the Emperor's command, the Custodian Squad will begin the escort mission at once and ensure the safe delivery of the Second Primarch to Holy Terra," the sixteen Custodes saluted, voices steady and resolute.

"This time, I won't be returning to Holy Terra with you," Axis continued, "I'll be concealing my identity as the Custodes and will be staying with the Space Wolves as an Astartes. This is the Emperor's order, and you must keep it confidential."

The sixteen Custodes voiced no objections.

They simply nodded to Axis. If it was the Emperor's command, even if it meant certain death, they would not flinch.

A mere transfer of duties was nothing to them; they didn't even bother asking for details.

"Alright, I'm going to go erase the memories of everyone else on this ship," Kasha told them. "You'll depart with the Second Primarch in the morning. For now, get some rest."

With that, Kasha nodded to the assembled Custodes and left the room with Axis.

"Why would Shield-Captain choose to become an Astartes instead of remaining Custodes? Isn't that a demotion?" One of the Custodes finally voiced his confusion after Axis and Kasha left.

To them, it seemed unthinkable. The Custodes were stronger than Astartes in every aspect: physique, standing, equipment. And Axis, arguably the strongest Custodian in history, was voluntarily becoming an Astartes?

It was as absurd as a Space Marine applying to become a regular Imperial Guardsman.

[A/n: At this time, there was no Astra Militarum yet; all were still called the Imperial Army.]

"There's no need for us to question anything," Caesar said calmly, "We are the Emperor's guards. Our only duty is to carry out his will."

The rest of the Custodes nodded in silent agreement and returned to their bunks.

What a pity!

They had hoped that by serving under Axis, they could gradually grow stronger by drawing on his miraculous powers.

But now, it looked like they wouldn't be seeing their Shield-Captain for a while. Still, just over two months of "enhancement" had already increased their physical abilities by twenty percent compared to the other Custodes.

And besides that initial burst, the subsequent effect of ki on their bodies had begun to taper off.

After all, this power belonged to someone else, they'd already benefited enough from it.

The night passed uneventfully.

The next morning, Kasha and Axis went to see Russ, explained the whole situation, and brought him up to speed.

"Hahaha! I knew Father would agree. Want me to summon all the Space Wolves right now?" Russ asked.

The Space Wolves were famously loyal.

If they cooperated willingly, it would ease the burden on the psyker, making the task of memory-erasure that much smoother.

Actually, the Imperium did possess devices for physical, technological brainwashing or memory erasure.

However, such machines weren't very effective, or even safe, when used on Space Marines. In comparison, psychic power worked far better.

"That would make things easier, Lord Russ!" Kasha said.

Russ nodded and immediately summoned all the Children aboard the Gloriana-class battleship, including a large number of mortal crew and some members of the Imperial Navy.

Everyone who had interacted with Axis over the past few days was brought together.

As for the nearby destroyers, secrecy had to be maintained.

They only knew that a squad of Custodes had arrived, and nothing of Axis or the others' true identities. There was little to be done there.

Soon, all the Space Wolves had assembled. Russ stood before them and addressed the crowd.

"Space Wolves, my Children! We have just completed a most glorious mission, but it contains Imperial secrets. All of you must now forget everything about it."

"Great Wolf-Father, it is our duty to keep the Imperium's secrets," a Space Wolf Astartes declared, striking his armored chest.

The other Space Wolves mirrored the gesture.

"Excellent! You have not disappointed me. Now, all of you will undergo a memory cleanse. You will lose a portion of your memories. Remember: do not resist," Russ instructed.

Though he fully believed his Children would keep the secret, and would never let slip a word, extra caution was needed, after all, this was a direct order from the Emperor himself.

The Space Wolves glanced at each other.

A few of the Astartes were clearly displeased, but with their Primarch present, and sixteen Custodes watching, no one voiced a complaint.

"We obey the command of the Allfather!" all the Space Wolves declared in unison.

The Emperor's will was absolute, everything was for the Master of Mankind.

Russ nodded in satisfaction and signaled for Kasha to begin.

They gathered in the central hall of the Hrafnkel, the Gloriana-class battleship.

Kasha raised her staff, golden light shimmering in her eyes, as her formidable psychic might radiated out.

Axis stood to the side, feeling the surging waves of psychic power.

Kasha's force spread like a golden tide, sweeping across the entire hall.

A look of confusion appeared in the eyes of every Space Wolf as Kasha quickly erased their memories with her psychic powers.

In everyone's recollection, Axis had never left the Space Wolves, but instead had simply undergone Astartes modification, traveling to Holy Terra for further training.

Now, with the mission complete, he had simply returned to the Space Wolves alongside the Custodes.

"All done," Kasha announced as she lowered her staff, breathing slightly heavier.

Even for a powerful psyker like her, wiping the memories of so many people so precisely at once was no easy feat.

These were not ordinary mortals, but Space Marines, even if they did not resist, cleansing their minds was no simple matter.

[A/n: At this point, most Legions still had no Librarians.]

"Very good," Russ nodded, then addressed his children: "All you need to remember is that a Custodes squad came on a secret mission and took away an important person. No need to ask about the details."

"For the Emperor!" the Space Wolves boomed in unison.

Axis noticed that the Space Marines' gazes did indeed seem a bit vacant, as if a blank space had opened up in their memories.

The precision of Kasha's psychic manipulation amazed him.

Her powers seem to be even greater than he'd imagined.

"Next are the mortal crew," Kasha said, glancing at the Imperial Navy officers and servitors standing at the back.

The minds of mortals were much more fragile, making their memories easier to wipe.

Kasha raised her staff again, golden psychic waves rippling outward.

This time, the mortal soldiers showed no resistance at all, allowing their memories to be rewritten effortlessly.

When the last mortal's eyes lost their light, Kasha finally let out a long breath. "That's it. Now, aside from the few of us, no one will remember anything about the Second Primarch or Axis."

"Well done, little one," Russ grinned, patting Kasha on the shoulder.

With a psyker like her in the future Legion, many things would become much simpler.

Still, he couldn't help but wonder why was this girl's psychic power golden? It felt different from other psykers, even strangely familiar… almost like the Emperor's.

With everyone's memories cleansed, they returned to their posts.

The sixteen Custodes, along with the Second Primarch and his Children, boarded the destroyer Axis and the others had arrived on, preparing to return to Holy Terra.
