Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: A Blank? Utterly Ordinary!

Over the next dozen or so days, Axis spent eight hours each day channeling his ki into the Custodians, tempering their bodies.

Then they would fight for another four hours, followed by eight hours of rest.

After a full fifteen days of this regime, the physical abilities of these Custodian warriors had soared by thirty percent.

They became faster, more agile, and even their endurance improved significantly.

Through this period of intense strengthening, Axis discovered that the first time he infused them with ki produced the most dramatic results. While subsequent sessions were still effective, the rate of improvement slowed down noticeably.

During these days, Axis also felt changes within his own body.

The potential described in the legends about the Legendary Super Saiyan was real, his strength seemed to grow almost every moment he was in the transformed state.

It felt as if there was no need for him to actively train to become stronger.

What he truly needed was to learn how to control this ever-growing power, to enhance his mental fortitude, or rather, to strengthen his soul.

At the end of the final day's training, Axis finally found time to ask his mentor, Malcador, a question that had been on his mind: Was he a Blank, a soulless one?

Being a Blank had its perks, after all: it could nullify psychic powers and made one highly resistant to the corrosive influence of the Warp.

"Axis, do you think you're a Blank?" Malcador countered with a question of his own. "Do you fit the criteria?"

Did psychic powers fail around him? The answer was no. Both Malcador and even the Emperor himself could easily display their psychic abilities in front of Axis, sometimes even using their powers to keep him awake and alert.

The sanctioned psykers aboard the Emperor's flagship also noticed nothing unusual as they passed near Axis, no weakening or nullification of their powers at all.

"So, I'm not a Blank?" Axis asked directly.

"That's right. You're neither a Blank, nor a psyker," Malcador replied. "In fact, in some ways, your soul is projected into the Warp just like any other of the Imperium's countless ordinary humans."

Malcador explained that he had long ago entered the Warp with his psychic powers and observed Axis's soul's projection there.

Axis's soul was unusually calm, so plain and ordinary that it would never attract the attention of any daemon or malignant entity.

Such a humble, unremarkable soul, yet it inhabited a body of overwhelming, violent power in the material universe.

If it weren't for the fact that Axis's ki could partially resist the corrupting influence of the Warp, giving him greater Warp resistance, then in truth, his soul was almost indistinguishable from that of a regular human.

But that was perfect.

If he didn't draw the attention of daemons, he wouldn't become the target of those chaos gods anytime soon.

His soul was nothing like a Primarch's, those shone in the Warp like beacons, lighthouses that drew the endless gaze of daemons.

Well, it seemed Saiyans really weren't suited for matters of mind or soul.

Even the legendary Super Saiyan Broly had once been controlled by certain technological means!

He was not a natural Super Saiyan, but one who had been transformed later through the Emperor's gene-enhancement technology.

Originally, he was just an ordinary low-class Saiyan warrior, so his soul was nothing particularly strong.

Even among the naturally gifted Super Saiyans, their souls were not especially powerful.

In fact, in the world of Dragon Ball, even death was little more than gaining a halo above your head, completely different from the rules of this universe.

"Axis, your true foundation is your ki," Malcador said with meaning, "Even though your body has already been enhanced, it's ki that is the source of everything. You must diligently study this power."

"But teacher, didn't you say that I should refrain from training from now on?" Axis asked.

As a legendary Super Saiyan, even a man-made one, his power grew constantly, whether he was trying or not.

"I told you to research your ki, to let it flow within your body and study its other uses," Malcador snapped, "I wasn't telling you to do physical training."

To Axis, training just meant doing weighted push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, or shadowboxing.

This idiot, his body had already been strengthened to its absolute limit, did he really need to bother with such things?

Did he think that ordinary training could make him any stronger? The answer was obviously no.

If people could surpass genetic enhancement through training alone, then every human would already be as strong as the Custodes.

For twenty-five years, the Emperor had poured all his efforts into Axis, pushing his genetics nearly to their limits.

At most, he could polish his combat techniques, learn to fight against various enemies, adapt to different environments.

Even gravity training wouldn't help much anymore as Axis's body had already been pushed to its current, perfect limit.

He had reached a bottleneck.

Without a breakthrough of some kind, his body would not grow any stronger.

Axis nodded with a somewhat confused expression.

He possessed the legendary Super Saiyan body, yet his soul was utterly ordinary.

So, if a Daemon Prince of Slaanesh really wanted to, would it try to possess him like it once did Fulgrim?

Could his ki withstand that? Axis wasn't sure, he wasn't willing to bet on it either.

He didn't know if there was any way to strengthen his soul.

A few days later, the Emperor himself personally presented Axis with a set of golden Aquila-pattern Terminator power armor.

This suit was forged from auramite, an extremely rare metal with far greater defensive properties than even adamantium or ceramite.

The most remarkable aspect of the armor was its near-total quantum inertness, making it extremely resistant to the forces of the Warp.

As for weapons, the Emperor had specially prepared two power gauntlets for Axis, one that could fire explosive rounds, and the other capable of launching energy blasts, with the option to switch to meltas or plasma as needed.

"Axis, from today on, you are formally a Custodian. You will fight for the Imperium of Mankind!"

Axis nodded, accepting Custodian power armor and power gauntlets.

This set of Terminator armor had been specially modified by the Emperor.

It could adapt to Axis's height like a battlesuit, expanding in case Axis underwent his special transformation and his body size grew dramatically.

Although Axis liked wearing battlesuits, in the extreme environments of the Warhammer world, with radiation, cosmic rays, and all sorts of viruses, it was far too dangerous to just go out in a normal suit.

His life was more important, after all!
