Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Traditional Chinese Medicine vs. Western Medicine

Han Wei was stunned by what he heard, his face immediately paling.

He quickly tried to explain, "I-I thought he was lying! I didn't know he knew you!"

"Idiot!" Song Wencheng snorted coldly. "You don't need to come to work tomorrow!"

Hearing this, everyone present was visibly shocked, especially Lao Yu. He had pulled a lot of strings to get Han Wei into the Department of Transportation. If Han Wei were fired, Lao Yu would be utterly dismayed.

"Qin Fei, let's go," Song Wencheng turned around, smiling as he spoke to Qin Fei.

At this moment, Lao Yu hurriedly shoved the jade pendant into Qin Fei's hands, awkwardly saying, "Qin Fei, I've been friends with your dad for years. I'm sorry about earlier—I wasn't thinking straight. Don't hold it against me."

Qin Fei smiled and, after a moment of thought, accepted the jade pendant.

It wasn't that he particularly valued the pendant itself; it was just that the pendant had been imbued with blessings, and it would be a shame to waste that.

"Ahem," Su Ziping coughed awkwardly nearby, his face beaming—completely different from earlier.

Patting Qin Fei on the shoulder, he said, "Qin Fei, your Uncle Yu is right. We're all close here. It's good to help each other out when we can."

"Exactly! Young people make mistakes all the time. As parents, we should be forgiving," Zhao Ya chimed in, echoing Lao Yu's earlier words with a flattering tone.

Qin Fei understood well that, while Lao Yu and Su Ziping liked to compete with each other, they were ultimately friends. Otherwise, Han Wei could've simply been reported to the police earlier.

Although Lao Yu felt uneasy, he couldn't say anything and had to go along with it.

Qin Fei smiled, gripping the jade pendant in his hand, and said, "Director Song, Han Wei didn't mean any harm. He just didn't know the situation. What do you think?"

Song Wencheng had never truly intended to fire Han Wei. He was just trying to save face for Qin Fei.

Thus, he put on a stern expression and said, "Since Qin Fei is vouching for you, we'll let it go this time. But don't let it happen again. Understand?"

Han Wei breathed a sigh of relief, repeatedly thanking, "Thank you, Director Song! Thank you!"

"You should be thanking Qin Fei," Song Wencheng remarked.

Han Wei immediately grabbed Qin Fei's arm, gratitude written all over his face. "I humiliated you earlier, yet you still helped me. I'm truly ashamed."

Qin Fei chuckled, "No worries. After all, my dad did plead on your behalf."

Hearing this, Su Ziping was practically beaming with pride. Qin Fei had truly brought him great honor this time!

"Dad, you should carry this jade pendant with you. It's good for your health," Qin Fei handed the pendant to Su Ziping.

"Good!" Su Ziping said, clearly pleased. The more he looked at Qin Fei, the more he liked him.

"Qin Fei, we'd better not waste any time. Let's get going," Zhang Team Leader urged from the side.

Qin Fei nodded, said his goodbyes to Su Ziping, and then left the restaurant.

On the way, Qin Fei asked Zhang Team Leader, "What happened?"

Zhang Team Leader sighed and explained, "A few weeks ago, my wife suddenly fainted. Since then, she's been feeling cold and having nightmares every night."

"Have you seen a doctor?" Qin Fei asked.

"Of course. The doctor said it's due to weak qi and overwork, but that's nonsense. My wife hasn't worked since we got married and goes to bed by nine every night. How could that be the case?" Zhang Team Leader said, clearly exasperated.

"I thought of seeking out traditional Chinese medicine, so I considered Shen Hongyi from Baicao Hall. But Old Song mentioned you, so I decided to come find you instead," Zhang Team Leader continued.

"How long has she had these symptoms?" Qin Fei inquired.

Zhang Team Leader counted on his fingers, "More than half a month now, with no improvement."

Qin Fei nodded. "I'll need to take a look at her to determine the exact cause."

The car sped toward a residential area. Zhang Team Leader led Qin Fei into his home, where an immediate chill filled the air.

On the bed lay a woman in her forties, clutching a quilt. Her face was pale, almost bloodless.

"This is my wife, Liu Xin. And this is Qin Fei," Zhang Team Leader introduced hurriedly.

Liu Xin struggled to sit up to greet Qin Fei, but he waved her off, "Please, no need for formalities. Just lie down."

Sitting by Liu Xin's bedside, Qin Fei first examined her face.

Her complexion did show signs of minor illness, confirming the hospital's diagnosis wasn't entirely wrong. However, such qi deficiency wouldn't persist for so long or exhibit such severe symptoms.

"What do you think?" Zhang Team Leader asked nervously.

"Your wife does have some health issues," Qin Fei said, "I'll write a prescription for traditional Chinese medicine to help regulate her condition."

"Good, good," Zhang Team Leader nodded quickly.

"But that's not the root cause," Qin Fei added, hesitating as if finding it difficult to continue.

Zhang Team Leader frowned and encouraged, "Just say whatever's on your mind."

"To find the root cause, your wife may need to soak in a bath," Qin Fei said with an awkward smile.

Hearing this, both Zhang Team Leader and Song Wencheng frowned deeply.

Seeing their reactions, Qin Fei quickly explained, "Her lifeline overlaps with her solar line, and her face shows signs of darkened temples—a condition often called 'blackened brow.' This isn't just a physical illness. To truly identify the issue, I'll need her to soak in a bath while I perform some techniques."

After some thought, Qin Fei proposed a compromise, "I can wear a blindfold, and you can follow my instructions exactly as I say."

Gritting his teeth, Zhang Team Leader finally agreed, "Alright, I trust you!"

The rest unfolded as described—Liu Xin's condition turned out to involve mysterious elements beyond ordinary medicine, leading to a confrontation between Qin Fei and skeptics of traditional Chinese medicine. Ultimately, Qin Fei defended its value, refusing to back down.
