Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Jade Pendant Was Given by Me!

Su Ziping's expression turned sour immediately. He quickly lowered his head, seemingly anticipating Lao Yu's mocking remarks.

Qin Fei sat there silently eating, while Zhao Ya grew increasingly angry. Unable to contain herself, she kicked him under the table and muttered, "Eat, eat, eat! All you do is eat, like a pig!"

Lao Yu wore a victorious smile, rubbing the jade pendant as he examined it closely. But the more he looked, the worse his expression became.

"This… this is old pit glass jade?" Lao Yu exclaimed in shock.

Qin Fei nodded and replied, "Yes, I checked it last night. It's a premium piece of old pit glass jade; both the quality and the distribution of the green color are top-notch."

"This kind of jade is priceless and belongs to the rarest of items. Where did you get it?" Lao Yu asked, gripping the pendant tightly, staring intently at Qin Fei.

Feeling a bit awkward, Qin Fei said, "A friend gave it to me. I thought it was quite nice, so I decided to give it to my father-in-law."

Su Ziping was taken aback, momentarily stunned before erupting in joy.

"Haha, my son-in-law may not have other skills, but he's definitely filial!" Su Ziping's demeanor shifted dramatically, beaming with pride.

He snatched the jade from Qin Fei, forgetting himself as he exclaimed, "This old pit glass jade must be worth much more than that emerald you have, right?"

Lao Yu's face darkened, and in a fit of anger, he slammed the emerald on the table.

This only fueled Su Ziping's pride further as he patted Qin Fei on the shoulder, pretending to be magnanimous. "Son-in-law, why did you give me such a valuable gift? Look at how generous Lao Yu is; he wouldn't even part with it!"

"You!" Lao Yu coughed angrily.

Qin Fei felt a mix of amusement and exasperation. These two were indeed old rivals, still competitive despite their age.

"Uncle Su, may I take a look at that jade?" Han Wei suddenly chimed in.

"Of course!" Su Ziping replied proudly, handing the jade to Han Wei. "Xiao Han, take a close look and see if you can get one for your dad too!"

Han Wei remained silent as he examined the pendant closely, then frowned and asked, "Mr. Qin, where did you get this pendant?"

"I already told you, it was given to me by a friend," Qin Fei said.

"Friend?" Han Wei scoffed. "I bet you stole it!"

"Stole it?" Su Ziping's expression soured immediately. "Xiao Han, you can't just say things like that. My son-in-law may not be capable, but his character is definitely trustworthy."

Han Wei sneered, passing the jade to Lao Yu, saying, "Dad, look! This jade is something we bought at a high price from a merchant in Myanmar not long ago. Since it was expensive, I made sure to mark it at the back."

He flipped the pendant over, revealing a tiny red dot on the back.

Lao Yu frowned and said, "Isn't this the jade you gave to Director Song, Song Wencheng? How could it end up in his hands?"

"Exactly!" Han Wei smiled coldly, looking directly at Qin Fei. "To compete for this position, my dad and I specifically bought this jade to give to Song Wencheng."

"You can't possibly be saying your friend is Song Wencheng, can you?" Han Wei said, his tone aggressive.

Su Ziping and Zhao Ya's faces turned grim as they stared at Qin Fei, waiting for his answer.

Qin Fei put down his bowl and chopsticks, nodding as he said, "This really was given to me by Director Song. I helped him…"

"Hahaha!" Before Qin Fei could finish, Lao Yu and Han Wei burst into laughter.

"Lao Su, your son-in-law is not only useless but also loves to boast!" Lao Yu laughed. "You know well who Song Wencheng is; how could he ever pay attention to a freeloader like him?"

Su Ziping's face turned a deep shade of red. As a public servant, he was well aware of Song Wencheng's status.

Someone like him would never bother with a freeloader son-in-law.

"You! You!" Su Ziping coughed violently, filled with disappointment and anger.

"You embarrassing piece of trash!" Zhao Ya scolded, jabbing her finger at Qin Fei while patting Su Ziping's back.

Qin Fei frowned and said, "This really was given to me. If you don't believe me, just call him and ask."

"Fine," Han Wei said, already reaching for his phone.

Seeing Han Wei's reaction, Lao Yu quickly grabbed his wrist and waved his hand. "What do you think you're doing? If you tell Song Wencheng about this, young Qin will end up in jail!"

"I've been friends with your uncle Su for years. I would never do something like that," Lao Yu added.

After hearing this, Su Ziping felt even more furious.

"Stop eating! Get downstairs and wait for us!" Zhao Ya shouted, losing her composure.

Qin Fei felt a bit aggrieved as he tossed his bowl onto the table and turned to leave.

"Hey, what's this? Young people should be competitive; we parents need to be more understanding," Lao Yu said, growing more arrogant.

Qin Fei ignored him and walked past Han Wei, saying, "Give me back the jade."

"Give it back? You stole it! Now that it's back where it belongs, why would I give it back to you?" Han Wei clutched the pendant tightly.

Qin Fei's expression darkened, and the air around them grew cold.

Han Wei felt an inexplicable dread as if the person standing in front of him was not just a peer but an insurmountable mountain, making it hard for him to breathe.

"Get out!" Su Ziping shouted, slamming his hand on the table.

Qin Fei huffed, turning to leave.

Just as he opened the door, he found two people standing at the entrance.

One was Captain Zhang, and the other was the original owner of the jade pendant, Song Wencheng.

"Qin Fei! I finally found you!" Captain Zhang shook Qin Fei's hand tightly, visibly excited.

Song Wencheng smiled and said, "Captain Zhang went to your home, but when he found you weren't there, he went to your wife's clinic. I'm glad we finally met."

"Director Song? You're here too?" As soon as Han Wei saw Song Wencheng, he quickly stood up.

"Ah, Mr. Song! What brings you here?" Han Wei greeted respectfully.

Song Wencheng glanced around and asked, "Is this your husband, Su Yu?"

Su Yu stood up and said, "Yes, Director Song, nice to see you again."

Upon hearing this, Han Wei's expression shifted slightly, realizing the situation was getting complicated.

"Is it true, Mr. Qin?" Song Wencheng asked. "You've been treating Director Song?"

Qin Fei nodded. "That's right. His condition was more serious than expected."

The atmosphere shifted, and Han Wei's expression turned serious.

"Mr. Qin, what exactly is wrong with my dad?" Han Wei asked, concern evident in his voice.

"Let's discuss it privately," Song Wencheng said, leading the way.

The group moved to a more secluded area, away from the prying eyes of others.

Once inside, Song Wencheng turned to Qin Fei. "I heard some unsettling news about my father's health. Can you tell me what's going on?"

Qin Fei took a deep breath and explained, "Director Song is experiencing symptoms that suggest a brain aneurysm. It's crucial to seek immediate medical attention to prevent any complications."

Han Wei looked pale as he processed the information. "How serious is it?"

Qin Fei replied, "If left untreated, it could lead to severe complications. But with the right care, there's a good chance of recovery."

"Thank you, Mr. Qin," Song Wencheng said, his expression solemn. "I will ensure he gets the best care available."

As they discussed the situation, the earlier atmosphere of competition faded, replaced by a sense of urgency and concern for family.
