The God of Ice and Fire at Hogwarts

Chapter 178: Dementors

In the overhead luggage compartment above the middle-aged man's head, a small, torn box tied with many ropes had the name of the man imprinted on it: RJ Lupin.

"Is this our new professor this year? I don't know what class he teaches," Ron said, looking at Professor Lupin, who was deeply asleep by the window, with some confusion.

Irina spread her hands and said, "Obviously, among the new professors known today for the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, we already know that the Care of Magical Creatures professor is Hagrid, and the only vacant class left is Defense Against the Dark Arts."

Ron eyed Professor Lupin suspiciously. He doubted that this frail-looking professor was qualified to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts.

At that moment, Harry sat down beside them. He glanced at Professor Lupin, still soundly sleeping, and then whispered to the group about the conversation he had just had with Mr. Weasley outside the Hogwarts Express.

After hearing Harry's story, Hermione seemed very surprised. She said in shock, "Did you say Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban to find you? Harry, you need to be careful. Be on your guard, don't give Black the chance to catch you alone!"

Harry nodded helplessly and said, "Of course I'll be careful, but I don't understand why Mr. Weasley thinks I'm going to look for someone who wants to kill me!"

Meanwhile, Lynn calmly said, "Maybe you have a reason to seek him out."

Harry was stunned. He didn't understand what Lynn meant. Wasn't Sirius Black a Death Eater who once served Voldemort? What reason could he have to find him?

Irina quietly said, "I think the truth of the matter should be discovered by you yourself. However, as long as you stay close to Lynn and me, even if Sirius Black comes, we'll make sure to protect your safety."

In fact, even without Lynn and Irina, Harry wouldn't be in any danger even if he faced Sirius alone. After all, his true identity was Harry's godfather.

Upon hearing Irina's words, Harry nodded in gratitude toward Irina and Lynn.

After discussing the matter of Sirius, the group started chatting again.

Hermione took out Crookshanks and let him roam freely in the carriage. Crookshanks didn't run around but instead crouched on the table in the carriage, staring intently at Scabbers, who was placed inside the alchemy cage.

With the alchemy cage made by Lynn, although Ron still hated the fat cat Crookshanks, he didn't directly express his displeasure with Hermione like in the original book.

As time passed, the sky gradually darkened.

It was around four or five in the afternoon when the Hogwarts Express entered an area of dense fog. The rain outside was heavy, wetting the windows of the train.

Not long after, the Hogwarts Express began to slow down.

"Are we there yet?" Ron got up and looked out the window at the thick fog.

Lynn pulled out his wand with a solemn expression. "I don't think we've arrived yet, but we have an uninvited guest!"

At that moment, the outside of the window had turned completely dark.

The Hogwarts Express slowed to a stop, and the sound of the wheels ceased. The sound of the wind and rain outside the window battered the windows more fiercely than before.

Clink!

A sound of gears clicking and a distant ping-pong-pong noise followed, as though a bunch of luggage had fallen from the overhead compartment.

Immediately after, all the lights on the Hogwarts Express went out, and the entire train was submerged in darkness.

In the dark, there was a rough sound, as if a wooden spike was scraping against the glass, sending chills down everyone's spines.

"It seems like something is moving outside," Ron said, trying with all his might to look out the window. "It looks like someone is boarding the carriage..."

Upon hearing this, Irina also showed a solemn expression and drew her wand.

In the darkness, the young witches and wizards on the Hogwarts Express were in a panic. Many of them were wandering through the different carriages. Some knocked into others, and the sounds of apologies, questions, and curses filled the train.

"Calm down!"

At that moment, a hoarse voice suddenly rang out.

Professor Lupin, who had been sleeping by the window, finally woke up. He gently waved his wand, and a faint firelight flickered from the tip of his wand.

The weak flame illuminated his tired face, but his eyes appeared very alert.

Just as Professor Lupin stood up and was about to check what was happening on the Hogwarts Express, the sliding door to the carriage slowly opened.

A tall, large figure in a cloak appeared at the door of the carriage. His face was completely hidden under a black hood, and a ghostly hand, pale and grayish, extended from beneath the cloak.

This hand was nothing like a human hand. It was as thin as a white bone, giving a chilling feeling.

The strange hands seemed to be covered in mucus and stains, as if something had rotted in the water after death.

There was no doubt that the creature standing in the doorway of the carriage was a Dementor, the same kind that was supposed to guard the prison of Azkaban.

The Dementor seemed aware of everyone's gaze. It slowly took a deep breath. Several people felt a biting cold wash over them. The chill seemed to penetrate their skin and pierce their hearts.

Not far away, Harry felt as though all his emotions and desires were being absorbed by this strange power. It felt like he would never feel happiness again.

At that moment, Harry's vision blurred, and he fainted backward.

"Ah!"

Seeing Harry fall, Ron and Hermione rushed to support his body.

Lynn and Irina looked at the Dementors at the door of the carriage with suspicion and waved their wands almost simultaneously.

"Expecto Patronum!"

"Expecto Patronum!"

Lynn and Irina shouted in unison.

As the white, silver light blossomed in the carriage, an endless silver light illuminated every corner of the carriage. Even the young wizards outside in the corridor would be dazzled by this blinding silver-white light.

Immediately after, a silver wolf glowing with white, silver light and a silver fox, also glowing with white, silver light, appeared in the carriage. They ran toward the Dementor at the door of the carriage in perfect harmony.

These two patronuses carried endless happy emotions and bombarded the Dementor with a deafening force.
