Chapter 23: Chapter 24: Devastating News
Days passed, and Aiden lay in the pack hospital, recovering from the ritual that had saved his life. Alpha Thane and Luna Lila spent every waking moment by his side, nursing him back to health.
But as he got better and grew stronger, he began to ask for his twin sister. "Where's Rory?" he would ask, his voice weak but insistent. "I want to see her."
Alpha Thane and Luna Lila exchanged worried glances. They had been dreading this moment, knowing that they would have to tell him the truth eventually.
But for now, they just shook their heads and told him that Aurora was resting, that she needed time to recover. Aiden seemed to accept this explanation, but Alpha Thane could see the doubt in his eyes.
As the days passed, the whole pack was in mourning. They had lost one of their own, a young and talented wolf had been taken from them too soon.
But they kept their grief quiet, not wanting to disturb Aiden as he recovered. They whispered among themselves, sharing stories and memories of Aurora's short but memorable life.
Alpha Thane and Luna Lila were grateful for their pack's discretion. They knew that Aiden was not yet strong enough to handle the truth, and they wanted to protect him for as long as they could.
But as days kept passing Alpha Thane knew that they couldn't keep the truth from Aiden forever. Eventually, he would have to tell his son that his twin sister was gone.
And he had no idea how he was going to do that.
Alpha Thane and Luna Lila sat beside Aiden's bed, their faces somber and filled with concern. Aiden looked up at them, his eyes still cloudy from the medication and the trauma he had endured.
"Aiden, son," Alpha Thane began, his voice low and gentle. "We need to talk to you about something."
Aiden's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with fear. "What is it?" he asked, his voice a whisper.
Luna Lila took a deep breath, her eyes welling up with tears. "Aiden, sweetie, Aurora didn't make it," she said, her voice cracking with emotion. "She died saving you ."
Aiden's eyes widened in horror as his parents told him about Aurora's death. He felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest, like all the air had been sucked out of his lungs.
"No," he whispered, his voice shaking with denial. "No, that can't be true. Rory's fine. She's just... she's just sleeping."
Aiden felt like he was drowning in a sea of guilt and regret. "It's my fault," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I'm the one who got hurt. I'm the one who needed saving. If only I had been more careful...if only I had been stronger..."
Alpha Thane and Luna rushed to their son's side, holding him tight as he broke down in tears. "Aiden, no, it's not your fault," Alpha Thane said, his voice gentle. "Aurora's death was not your fault. She made a choice to save you.
Aiden pushed both of his parent away, screaming at the top of his lungs. " I don't want to be saved , you should have let me die, I can't live without my sister, you should have let me die with her." Aiden couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and helplessness. He felt like he had failed his sister.
Alpha Thane and Luna Lila exchanged a sorrowful glance, their hearts aching for their son. "Aiden, I'm so sorry," Alpha Thane said, his voice filled with compassion. "Aurora was our daughter too and we all miss her dearly, but she love you so much that she choose to sacrifice her life for you so that you can live. Don't consider her gone because she lives through you now her body might be dead but her soul lives on in you, she will always be a part of you."
But Aiden wasn't listening. He was lost in his own world of grief and denial, unable to process the devastating news. He felt like a part of him had been ripped away, like he was lost and incomplete without his other half.
