Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Success!
The transformation of the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast began.
The process of a soul beast's transformation was neither earth-shaking nor accompanied by any grand phenomena. There were no waves of spiritual energy sweeping across the land, only a calm, steady, and peaceful progression. This was natural—shifting forms and rebuilding one's essence was an act filled with life-and-death terror and couldn't afford to be flashy or ostentatious.
The Nightmare Demon Eye Beast's aura gradually contracted, condensing inward. From her body, gray energy streams began to seep out, carrying a strange and powerful essence. These streams swirled around her, weaving and intertwining, forming the outline of a large, oval egg that soon encased her entirely.
This was the Egg of Transformation, the first step in a soul beast's transformation.
Gray energy continued to flow from the egg, orbiting around it like satellites revolving around a sun. Over time, the egg absorbed these streams, growing more solid and thick as the gray energy was fully assimilated.
The egg pulsed faintly with dim light, each flash slowing as time passed. With every flicker, the intervals between pulses grew longer, and the egg itself steadily shrank.
Three days later, the gray egg had diminished to a tenth of its original size. Its color had shifted to a lighter grayish-white, and it had fully absorbed the energy surrounding it. Now, it appeared as a simple crystalline object, ordinary in appearance, with no outward signs of its extraordinary nature.
If Jing Shaoyu hadn't witnessed the entire process, he never would have believed that this gray-white, amber-like oval crystal before him was the embryonic form of a fierce beast.
With this step complete, it was now time for Leng Yaozhu to take action.
"Shaoyu, do you remember my instructions?" Leng Yaozhu asked, holding the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast's embryonic form in her hands as she turned to Jing Shaoyu.
"Yes, Teacher, I understand!" Jing Shaoyu nodded resolutely, stepping forward to face her. He lowered his gaze to the embryo in Leng Yaozhu's hands, his eyes gleaming. A moment later, the End Godslayer Spear appeared in his grasp. With a swift motion, he pressed his middle finger against the sharp edge of the spear, drawing a drop of blood.
The drop of blood formed at his fingertip before falling onto the embryonic form.
As soon as the drop of blood landed, the embryo began to emit a soft gray-white glow. Simultaneously, a brilliant white light erupted from beneath Jing Shaoyu's feet. Clearing his mind, he gripped the End Godslayer Spear in his left hand while resting his right hand gently atop the embryo.
Leng Yaozhu, having stepped out of the glowing circle, watched closely as the embryo floated unsupported in midair, pulsating with gray-white light. She raised her hands, one pointing at Jing Shaoyu and the other at the embryo. Two streams of golden soul power flowed from her palms, precisely striking the ground beneath Jing Shaoyu and the embryo.
A formation began to materialize, radiating upward from the ground to envelop Jing Shaoyu and the embryonic form. The formation was composed of concentric white rings, with two golden lights racing along its circumference, enhancing its efficacy.
This was the Contract Array. Inscribed with Leng Yaozhu's soul power and soul spirit contract runes, the array was the foundation of the Embryonic Contract Method. With the preparations complete, all that remained was to wait—for Jing Shaoyu to successfully bond with the spirit soul and absorb the fierce beast's vast energy.
However, because the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast's power and essence were sealed within the embryo, Jing Shaoyu wouldn't immediately benefit from her full strength. For now, he would only gain an increase in soul power and four hollow red soul rings—rings with form but no substance.
Leng Yaozhu pondered this as she observed the array's dazzling glow. Jing Shaoyu and the embryonic form were now obscured by the light, indicating that the final fusion was underway. A gray-white light shot out from the array, landing in her hand.
"Oh, and this as well." Leng Yaozhu smiled faintly as the light dissipated, revealing a physical object. "Not bad at all."
Days turned into nights, and before long, seven days had passed.
At the edge of the desert oasis, the bright white light surrounding Jing Shaoyu began to dim. His figure slowly emerged from the glow, arms outstretched as he descended gracefully to the ground. Opening his eyes, a sharp gleam flashed within them, and his gaze was bright and piercing.
"Shaoyu, how do you feel?" Leng Yaozhu's voice rang out as she lounged by the lakeside, her posture relaxed as she watched him.
"Teacher," Jing Shaoyu called out, his face breaking into a natural smile. "I feel great!"
As he spoke, the End Godslayer Spear appeared in his hand. Perhaps due to the newly added soul rings, the spear had undergone noticeable changes. What once exuded an aura of destruction and malevolence now appeared plain and unremarkable—an ordinary black spear.
The destructive, bloodthirsty, devouring, and chaotic energies that once emanated from it were now concealed, as if it had shed its outer flashiness to reveal a humble core. Other than its gleaming black surface and sharp tip, it looked like any other weapon.
What wasn't ordinary, however, were the four red soul rings hovering behind him.
Each soul ring glowed a vivid red, adorned with two golden patterns, radiating an aura so overwhelming it seemed to demand reverence. Four fierce beast soul rings—anyone who saw them would undoubtedly marvel at Jing Shaoyu's monstrous talent.
"Not bad!" Leng Yaozhu remarked with a soft sigh. "These soul rings look perfectly normal. They might intimidate ordinary Title Douluo, but against Super Douluo or Limit Douluo, they'll be easily exposed."
"Uh…" Jing Shaoyu scratched his head, unsure how to respond. After a moment, he said, "Teacher, I'm not expecting to intimidate Title Douluo. At my current level, I'm not even close to needing that."
"True enough," Leng Yaozhu nodded in agreement. "Still, you need to work hard. The sooner you can fully release the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast from the embryo, the sooner you'll stop carrying around these hollow soul rings."
"I understand, Teacher!" Jing Shaoyu responded seriously.
Since the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast remained in embryonic form within his sea of consciousness, the four soul rings were currently hollow—red in appearance but lacking the full power of ten-thousand-year soul rings. For now, they provided no soul skills.
Jing Shaoyu, however, wasn't concerned. He was confident it was only a matter of time. Within five years, he was certain he would unlock the soul skills of these four fierce beast soul rings.
"Shaoyu, I noticed your soul power increased. How much has it grown?" Leng Yaozhu's keen eyes swept over him as she asked.
"Forty-fourth rank peak, Teacher," Jing Shaoyu replied.
"Forty-fourth rank peak—not bad at all." Leng Yaozhu seemed pleased, smiling warmly. "Once you absorb this soul bone, you should gain another one or two ranks. Reaching forty-five or forty-six will undoubtedly astonish the protective old fogies at Shrek Academy."
Jing Shaoyu didn't pay much attention to Leng Yaozhu's mention of Shrek Academy. His focus remained on the soul bone in her hands.
This soul bone was, of course, the Nightmare Demon Eye Beast's, a prized left arm bone of extraordinary quality, boasting an age of 200,000 years. It immediately made his current Darkgolden Terrorclaw Right Arm Bone seem somewhat lackluster.
However, its complete skeletal structure—from wrist to shoulder—made it far superior to ordinary partial arm bones. When Jing Shaoyu absorbed it, his left arm's strength and durability would undoubtedly receive a massive boost.
