Chapter 282: Weakness Of The Lions
And you know, lions have a very strict outlook on liabilities and risks. Everyone had realized that Derylia was a threat, someone who would turn on her own race all in the name of love.
So, they killed her.
…
Kael's mind went blank for a second, he blinked his eyes, reading the last message, flabbergasted.
He had not expected that at all.
All this time, he had thought of many scenarios that caused the conflict between the dragons and the lions because of Derylia.
But he had never thought that the Lion Kings actually killed Derylia.
…
Kael: How?
Exalon: I don't know, but it's confirmed that she was actually killed by some Lion Kings.
Kael: So, does this concern Ibadon?
Exalon: Not yet, Ibadon was still immature at that time. It was Sakan who did the breaking.
Whatever deal she made with the Primordial Dragon allowed him to be able to sense whether she was dead or alive.
Naturally, he found out that she was dead and immediately alerted his son, Saka, who at that time had just evolved and had gained new might.
Sakan of that time was mighty upon leaving his seclusion, he was already comparable to the strongest of Lion Kings.
But he couldn't experience any joy at all, all the happiness he would have had from attaining such strength was sucked away once he heard the news.
His beloved was dead, and her death wasn't natural.
Sakan was noble, less destructive, and much calmer than most dragons. He was nothing like his parents. Some say that he was always like that, others say that Derylia was the one that changed him.
But on that day, Sakan changed. He snapped, his heart was broken and his mind shattered.
Living witnesses say that his maddening roars echoed across the boundaries of the Draconic Heaven.
No one had ever seen Sakan like that, his mother couldn't appease him, and his father could only watch without any means of help.
I guess it was expected, he had poured his whole heart into that relationship. What he and Derylia had was something many could only dream of.
And we took it away from him. Derylia's corpse wasn't even delivered back to him, it was completely destroyed.
However, Sakan soon began to calm down, realizing that he still had his son, Ibadon, all that was left of Derylia.
It said that Sakan entered a strange state of calmness, he claimed that he knew what must be done.
And so, Sakan, with the power he had and his father's backing, decided to wage war on the lions.
Oh, Kael, this war…it was horrible. It was disastrous, it was the worst thing the lion civilization had ever faced since the day it was formed.
Normally, the lions had no reason to fear the dragons to the point of not being able to act how they wished. The dragon and lion civilizations of that time were roughly equivalent in strength.
It should have just been a drawn-out war that would end after both sides retreated. It would have been just another war in the annals of lion history.
But it wasn't.
Remember that Derylia had made a deal with Sakan's father, the Primordial Dragon, in the past. Although she died, she had generated enough Conquering Essence from the dragons.
That Conquering Essence was used to fight against the Lions. The dragons mixed the Conquering Essence they had left with their own powers and used it for highly destructive techniques.
Even in death, Derylia still damned the Lion Race.
The lions were utterly defeated time after time, over and over. Their defensive line shrank repeatedly.
Never had the lions received a taste of their own medicine. Conquering Essence which was supposed to be used to enhance the lions, was used to enhance the dragons.
The more they got defeated, the more the lions hated Derylia to the bones. Every dead lion that floated in space or crashed into a planet reminded them of the wrong Derylia had done to them.
They wished to bring Derylia back from the dead so that they could kill her again. It was frustrating, agonizing, to see the dragons gain advantage over them with what was supposed to be theirs.
How were they supposed to know that killing Derylia would bring such bad luck? How were they supposed to know that Conquering Essence could be so harmful to them when used by other races?
That was the first time the lion civilization saw a rapid decline in its population.
Alas, Sakan stopped because another development had occurred. He had been one of the high-level dragons privileged to use the Conquering Essence that was left behind by Derylia.
However, they soon found out that in Derylia's absence, the Conquering Essence was slowly killing them. The dragons did not have any affinity with the Law of Conquering, and without a Primordial Lion to anchor them to the Law, the Law turned on them.
Thankfully, this was subtle and most dragons got rid of the Conquering Essence before it could kill them.
Sakan, however, was not willing to let go. He continued his vengeful campaign against the lions, and he did so with Conquering Essence.
He was determined to kill as many Lion Kings as he could, even if it meant dying in the process.
For that was the only way he knew he could ask Derylia for forgiveness, that was the only way he could make it up to her for now being there to protect her.
Sakan fought and fought.
In his final moments, he breached the barriers of heaven, rushing into the Leonine Heavenly Realm and bringing a slaughter party with him.
He killed many, injured many more, and traumatized countless. Even the Lion Kings who shared a similar power level with Sakan were cautious of fighting him and some of them even escaped.
Sakan was mad, and he had Conquering Essence. His dragon breath shattered an unknown number of pyramids. He alone flew against the torrent of outraged lions that sought to kill him.
Every flap of his wings brought about more destruction, allowing him to move unchallenged through the realm.
Fortunately, all good and bad things had to come to an end.
Sakan ran out of Conquering Essence and ended up dying in battle after he was swarmed by the wrathful lions and Lion Kings.
That Sakan had to first run out of Conquering Essence before the lions were able to kill him should tell you how bad the situation was.
Then, the two lovers, Sakan and Derylia, had died because of the lions.
…
Kael's breathing was steady and his expression was calm. The lion instinct within him urged him to be angry, and he even felt his blood burning hot.
But it was all in the past now. He was still shocked though. The damage Derylia had caused was incredible, even in death, her stupid actions were still hunting the lions.
Sakan had to first run out of Conquering Essence before the lions were able to kill him.
He looked around, observing the forest with his sharp golden eyes. The greenery stood out against the golden screen he had been staring at for some time.
Zabita and Diane were almost done organizing the creatures to go back to her caste headquarters and Katari was hidden somewhere, just hanging around.
Zabita and Diane did not know that Katari was here…
…
Kael: That's a lot, I don't know what to say.
Exalon: That's normal, most times we tell our younger ones about our history, they usually express deep hatred for Derylia.
Kael: Not that I'm defending her or anything, but do you think the Lion Kings went too far with Killing Derylia?
Exalon: Would you have preferred that she continued giving her powers to the dragons?
Kael: No.
Exalon: Don't worry, I understand that you're just looking out for yourself. If they can kill Derylia, they can kill you.
But you shouldn't worry about that, many lions already want to kill you because of Derylia.
Do you understand now?
Kael: Yes, I do. If I share my powers with other creatures, it can threaten the lion civilization again.
Exalon: Yes, one guy even said that you might fall in love with a bee, hahaha.
Kael: Do you think I would do what Derylia did?
Exalon: I don't know, I hope not. If you do, I might have to kill you. Who knows, Derylia did something and you might do something different that could still endanger the lion civilization.
In general, we don't know how much harm you could do to the lion race until you try.
Kael: If I had someone to guide me and point out things I'm doing wrong, I might not make such stupid mistakes.
Exalon: I know what you're trying to say.
Kael: I'm not talking about you.
Exalon: …
Kael: Anyways, what happened after that? I know that Noel had to fight the dragons. What caused that war? Why did Noel have to sacrifice himself? What happened to Ibadon and the Primordial Dragon?
…
…
…
Exalon: *sigh* Noel…he tried his best.
