Pokémon: A Trainer Who Masters the Six Powers from the Start

Chapter 80: Chapter 80: The One-Ball Champion

Following the directions on the banner, Ron began searching for the registration site.

Initially, Ron thought that the prizes for a local tournament, like the three TM discs offered in Cerulean City, represented the standard for ordinary tournaments in the Pokémon world.

At most, the prize might include TMs with slightly enhanced power limits or rarer moves, such as Protect, a skill with no direct offensive capabilities but invaluable for survival.

Reality, however, dealt Ron a heavy blow, showing him that there's always someone stronger and prizes more extravagant. Surprisingly, Ron found this blow rather satisfying.

It wasn't because of some peculiar taste of his; the prize was simply too good to ignore.

For this tournament, divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced stages, the grand prize was a Master Ball manufactured by Silph Co., a Poké Ball reputed to have a 100% capture rate!

With a Master Ball, as long as it hits the target Pokémon, capture is virtually guaranteed. Ron couldn't help but wonder if this had been tested on Legendary Pokémon.

That said, Ron thought that anyone attempting such a feat might end up facing dire consequences instead.

For Ron, Legendary Pokémon weren't even on the table—that was Ash's territory. Ron's goal was simpler: capturing elusive and rare Pokémon that tend to flee easily.

With this Master Ball, aside from Legendaries, no Pokémon would stand a chance. Truly a "one-ball champion."

Thinking about it, Ron was reminded of the most recent Pokémon anime series, where Goh seemed like a cheat, using Poké Balls as if they were Master Balls, even capturing Suicune and Legendary Pokémon without hesitation.

Compared to Goh, Ron felt as if Ash had been relegated to a side character.

Now, having the opportunity to become like Goh, Ron could only sigh, "What a thrill!"

The only regret was that the Master Ball was a one-time-use item. Once used, it couldn't be reused, even if the Pokémon inside were transferred out.

Even if Ron didn't need it, he could sell it for a fortune. A Master Ball's price could easily be described as astronomical, enough to trade for a rare-quality Life Orb without issue.

Without hesitation, Ron decided to register for the tournament, promptly following the directions on the banner to find the registration site.

After presenting his Pokédex, Ron successfully registered and was informed that the competition would begin in five days. A staff member would contact him with further details.

Leaving the registration site, Ron suddenly understood why so many people aspired to become League Trainers.

Not only did League Trainers enjoy various benefits, but opportunities like these were off-limits to non-League Trainers.

With his registration complete, Ron headed to Saffron Gym to book an appointment in advance.

The Sabrina he faced now was nothing like the one Ash encountered. Aside from her cool demeanor, she behaved perfectly normal.

Ron couldn't figure out how Sabrina could've turned into what the anime depicted. If she had, there's no way the League would have allowed her to continue as the Saffron Gym Leader.

After all, Saffron City was the heart of the Kanto region, and its Gym was always under scrutiny, especially its Gym Leader.

The events portrayed in the anime seemed implausible to Ron—did Sabrina hypnotize all League officials with her psychic powers?

Dismissing these thoughts, Ron took his number tag and left Saffron Gym.

According to the staff, Ron's battle would likely take place two days later in the afternoon.

This highlighted how many trainers were challenging Saffron Gym, not to mention that Sabrina, being both a skilled Gym Leader and an attractive woman, likely added to the appeal, despite her conservative attire and aloof personality.

Having finished his errands, Ron hurried to the Pokémon Center.

Being situated in Saffron City, this Pokémon Center was far more luxurious than those in other areas. The ample availability of rooms spared Ron from needing to book a hotel.

After checking in, Ron wasn't distracted by Saffron City's bustling sights. Instead, he focused on training inside the Pokémon Center.

Having seen plenty of bustling places in his past life, Ron found Saffron City less appealing. Additionally, his limited budget further restricted his spending power.

Rather than window shopping, Ron decided it was better to focus on improving his skills.

Saffron's Pokémon Center boasted the best facilities in the region, making it impossible for Ron to pass up the opportunity to train here.

For instance, the training room wasn't just an empty space—it was equipped with various training tools and multiple dummies made of different materials for practice.

The excellent facilities immediately caught the attention of Ron and his Machamp, who dove straight into training.

Ron adjusted his training plan to make full use of the Center's comprehensive equipment, ensuring nothing went to waste.

For the entire day, Ron and his team trained tirelessly, with pools of sweat as proof of their hard work.

After two days of rigorous training, Ron set out with his Ralts to find suitable trainers for battles.

As the central city of Kanto, Saffron attracted trainers from other regions, giving Ron the chance to encounter Pokémon from places like Johto's Totodile, Swinub, or even Hoenn's Zigzagoon and Taillow, which made for excellent battle opponents.

Seeing so many potential foes ignited Ralts' fighting spirit. The Psychic Pokémon eagerly awaited Ron's arrangement of its first opponent.

Thanks to Ralts' Psychic-type reputation, it didn't take long for another trainer to challenge Ron, eager to test their skills against a relatively weaker Psychic Pokémon.

Although Fairy-types hadn't been discovered yet, Ralts' future Psychic/Fairy dual typing would've made it even more desirable for battles.

However, Ron had no intention of introducing the Fairy type prematurely. Writing detailed papers and compiling experimental data would've been a headache. Battling was far more straightforward.

When the opponent revealed their Pokémon to be a Charmander, Ron readily accepted, aiming to use this match to boost Ralts' reputation and attract trainers from other regions for more battles.

"Go, Ralts! Use Double Team and charge in!"

Following Ron's command, multiple copies of Ralts appeared on the battlefield, converging on Charmander from all directions. The battle had officially begun!
