Chapter 207: Conqueror's Haki Shakes Konoha
— — — — —
Back in the day, Konoha Village was an absolute powerhouse.
The Legendary Sannin, the Yellow Flash Namikaze Minato, the White Fang Hatake Sakumo, and then there were monsters like Uchiha Kitaro, Uchiha Shisui, and even Uchiha Itachi.
Any one of them could make entire ninja villages tremble. But somehow, the Third Hokage, that sly old schemer, managed to mess it all up. And he still had the nerve to cling to the Hokage's seat like it was his birthright.
"What a pity…" Uchiha Kitaro sighed with an exaggerated look of regret.
The Third Hokage barely resisted the urge to slap him. This brat was practically wishing for his death right to his face.
"You've come back at the perfect time," the Third began, ignoring the urge. "There's been some suspicious activity from Iwagakure lately, and I'll need you to—"
"Sorry, Third Lord, but I won't be staying long this time," Kitaro cut him off, his tone casual but firm. "The clan is still deeply unhappy with Konoha's leadership. Especially now that they've had some unexpected encounters that granted them incredible powers—powers that rival even our ninjutsu."
"Everyone's confidence has skyrocketed, and they're all talking about coming back to destroy the village outright. I've been holding them back, but I can't stay here too long."
The Third's expression darkened. Unexpected encounters? Powers rivaling ninjutsu? Significant boosts in strength? None of this sounded good. But knowing this kid, half of it might just be hot air. Still, he couldn't dismiss it outright.
"Oh? And what kind of power are we talking about? Care to demonstrate?"
"Here? Now?" Kitaro raised an eyebrow.
"Why not? It can't be that destructive, can it?"
Kitaro shook his head. "Not really. It's almost harmless."
"Well then, let's see it. I'm curious what could even begin to compare with our centuries-old ninjutsu traditions."
"If you insist…" A smirk tugged at Kitaro's lips, instantly setting off alarm bells in the Third's head.
"Wait—"
Before the Third could finish, a deafening hum reverberated through the room.
"BOOM!"
A tidal wave of pressure erupted from Kitaro, engulfing the entire village in an instant. It wasn't physical—it was pure, unrelenting willpower, a force that pressed down on every living being in Konoha.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Across the village, countless civilians and ninjas alike collapsed, their eyes rolling back as they foamed at the mouth.
"What… the hell…" Kakashi and Guy staggered, each struggling to withstand the overwhelming spiritual assault. It felt like some colossal, otherworldly terror had descended upon them. Barely holding themselves together, they glanced at the Hokage's office.
"It's coming from the tower!" Kakashi gasped. "Don't tell me—"
"Is Kitaro attacking the Third?!" Guy exclaimed, his face pale.
Inside the office, the Third Hokage gritted his teeth as the pressure bore down on him. Even with his immense strength as a Kage, the sheer intensity of the force rattled him. Little did he know, Kitaro wasn't even targeting him directly. If he had been, the Third would have been unconscious already.
After a few agonizing moments, the wave of energy subsided.
"Stop!" The Third barked, and instantly, two ANBU guards appeared beside him, their weapons trained on Kitaro.
"What are you doing? Stand down!" the Third ordered.
"Yes, sir!" the ANBU replied, vanishing into the shadows once again.
"That's quite the impressive ability," the Third said with a strained smile. Internally, he was still trying to process what just happened. At first glance, this power seemed flashy but harmless. Yet its true potential…
A sudden knock at the door interrupted his thoughts, followed by an ANBU's hurried report.
"Lord Third! Nearly every civilian, and all the Chūnin and Genin in the village, have fainted due to an unknown phenomenon. Preliminary checks show no injuries, but their spirits seem to have been overwhelmed. The villagers are in a panic, thinking Konoha is under attack."
The Third Hokage's face turned ashen. "Nearly the entire village's fighting force, gone in an instant… If we ever went to war with the Uchiha and they used this power, none of our lower ranks would stand a chance. Even the sheer numbers advantage we rely on would be meaningless."
Kitaro scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Ah… My bad! I only just got the hang of this power, so I don't quite know how to hold back yet. Sorry for scaring everyone!"
The Third forced a smile. "No harm done. Let's just reassure the villagers that everything's under control. Tell them there's no attack."
"Yes, sir!"
The ANBU disappeared, leaving the two alone once more.
"So… this power is truly remarkable," the Third said, trying to sound casual. "Where did you come across it? Could others in the village learn it as well?"
"Well…" Kitaro shrugged. "That's tricky. Our clan stumbled upon it by chance. If others want to learn, I suppose it depends on whether they get a similar lucky break."
"What kind of conditions would it take?"
"Oh, come on, Third Lord. Don't make this weird. We're family, right? If I find a way to teach it in the future, I'll make sure you're the first to know."
The Third's eyes narrowed slightly. This brat's not taking me seriously…
"Well, that would be appreciated," the Third replied with a forced chuckle.
"Anyway, once I head back, I'll do my best to talk some sense into the clan. Even if Konoha's leadership has been... a little unfair, we're still Konoha's people, right? A coup is just too much."
The Third Hokage laughed heartily, as if he hadn't caught the sharp jab in Kitaro's words. "Hahaha! Exactly! Konoha has always been the Uchiha clan's home. Look, I've even kept the Uchiha district intact, waiting for the day when your clan returns to our fold."
"I'll talk to the higher-ups and make sure the Uchiha get the respect they deserve. I guarantee it: when your clan comes back, they'll receive the highest honors."
"With your guarantee, convincing the clan will be much easier," Kitaro said with a sly grin.
And thus, the game continued.
