Chapter 127: OPRS: Chapter 127
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The cannons on the second deck fired simultaneously.
This galleon was slightly larger than the Straw Hats'; however, it had been improved. While the Straw Hats' captain lived in the crew quarters, the women had private rooms; Alistair had converted the large crew bunks into private rooms with toilets and bathrooms. They had plenty of space, so why not use it?
The second deck's open space remained; it housed twenty cannons on each side, forty in total, mostly captured from pirates. Alistair selected forty cannons of similar caliber. Pirate cannons varied in size; finding forty similar ones took considerable effort.
The benefits were clear. Robin's abilities allowed for uniform loading, ignition, and firing. In movies, cannons fire one after another; this is because in chaotic naval battles, you can't hear orders; you fire when you see others firing. This creates firing discrepancies. In Warships, people exploit firing time differences for thrilling dodging; torpedoes have varying speeds. Twenty cannons firing simultaneously create a metal storm; even if you dodge some, you can't dodge them all. Her offensive power increased significantly.
Secondly, she began practicing with firearms. Not everyone has the chance to train systematically; many Devil Fruit users, like Robin, develop their abilities through trial and error. They don't know their strengths or how to maximize their abilities. Robin's abilities were mostly close-range; are there few close-range fighters in the One Piece world? Strong long-range fighters are rare; Big Mom's pursuit of the Straw Hats required close-range combat, showing the scarcity of long-range attackers. The Red Hair Pirates, however, had many snipers; their strength and the Navy's and other Yonko's fear weren't accidental.
Robin clearly possessed top-tier long-range attack capabilities. With enough weapons, she's an army. Top-tier fighters are common in war, but someone capable of massive firepower is rare. Since her physical strength couldn't reach its peak, Alistair would help her develop her fruit to its maximum potential.
With Robin's combat path set, she trained diligently; basic physical training continued, now augmented by firearm and cannon practice; she also gave lectures and recorded "videos" at night; her personal time was minimal. Robin, though unhappy, didn't complain; she diligently cleaned cannons, loaded gunpowder, and fired.
She'd been doing this for hours. She was exhausted but silent. Smoker and Hina found this strange. Such diligence was rare among pirates, common among Marines due to their sense of justice; they were curious why Robin trained so hard.
"She found a place to belong; why wouldn't she protect it?"
Alistair, beside them, did his usual exercises; sweat soaked the deck. Seeing their curiosity, he calmly explained.
"Don't overestimate her; Robin is cunning and won't be fooled by your words; she's gaining your trust," Smoker said coldly, trying to sow discord; a Navy Headquarters veteran, his skills and adaptability were among the best.
Robin, training at the railing, glanced at them, silent. Alistair laughed, failing his plank, then rising again.
"Enel, Ace, Laffitte, Robin…they're all exceptional; they wouldn't be fooled by lies; if I were lying, you'd see flaws. But they genuinely follow me; they want to do great things; don't you see that?"
Smoker and Hina were speechless; they saw Alistair's unwavering belief in his justice, like Akainu's; Smoker also believed in his justice, but their paths would diverge.
"Mr. Alistair! We're nearing the 16th branch," Laffitte announced.
