Chapter 42: Flying cars and monsters
So Baz was supposed to catch a thief.
Baz had just received a message:
"Eus is striking right now at the biggest bank in the city!"
Baz sprinted quickly to the bank.
There was Eus — he had been caught, but the whole place was surrounded by police.
They were aiming their weapons at Eus, but he was holding an injured officer in his arms. Baz saw it.
And he started to speak:
"Eus, right?"
"Things are really not looking good for yo—"
Eus dropped the officer, but then raised his hands, and suddenly — a shockwave!
Everyone was blown away.
"Get down!!"
shouted Baz.
Baz pulled himself up. He saw Eus driving away in a red car.
Baz sprinted after him.
He was fast — fast enough to keep up.
Baz raised his hand, jumped in front of the car, and stopped it with sheer force. Then he lifted the car and threw it — with Eus still inside.
But in mid-air, the car suddenly stopped falling. Baz realized something:
Eus had gravity magic!
The car was now floating… and rising?
He really wanted to escape by flying into the sky?
Baz's thoughts changed:
"Should I call for a helicopter? No… he'll probably run out of energy soon anyway."
"Wait — I've got it."
Baz jumped.
He jumped higher than he ever had before.
He landed on the hood, then smashed through the front window.
He grabbed Eus.
"It's over for you," Baz said.
The car crashed down and was destroyed…
But Baz had jumped away with Eus in his arms. He knocked Eus out and handed him over to the police.
"No more stealing money!" Baz heard one of the officers say as they laughed.
Eus was put in handcuffs that suppressed his magic.
Then Baz called the base.
"This is Baz. I caught the thief. Mission complete. I'm heading back now."
And so, Baz returned to the base.
Mike approached about five people.
Four of them were in their mid-20s, and one was clearly older — maybe around 45.
The older man spoke up:
"Good day. You must be the S-rank they sent, right?"
Mike replied,
"Yes, that's me. So, can you explain what the mission is?"
"Call me El," said the older man.
"The others here aren't really important, since you'll mainly be going out with me — on a boat."
"I'll tell you everything."
"About two days ago, some fishermen claimed to have seen a large creature underwater — thick-bodied, with a giant mouth.
Then, just yesterday, we got a report:
Three divers went into the lake, but only one came back.
The survivor told us… it was a monster.
A huge mouth, he said."
"Tonight, we'll head out together," El continued.
"Since it's mostly been spotted at night, we assume it hunts then."
"Alright," Mike said.
"My name is Mike. I'll find this monster and take it down — so the lake will be safe again."
He smiled confidently.
Suddenly, a system message appeared:
New Quest: Find the Monster
Progress: 0/1
Reward: S-Rank Key
And so, the hunt for the giant monster began.
Will Mike and El find the beast…?
