Chapter 41: Time

And so, the four set off…

Excited — but with urgency in their steps.

They arrived on the island.

No time to waste.

They began moving immediately.

"I wonder what the old commander is like," Kad asked as they walked.

"Probably sick, you idiot," Giel shot back, rolling his eyes.

Lasa laughed.

Kad looked confused.

"I just want to get this over with," Giel added, lifting the metal case.

"Let's deliver this and get back."

Has nodded.

"Alright, let's move. Into the forest."

But Kad held up a hand.

"Wait — I got a map. We're here…"

He pointed.

"…and the house is there."

"Then let's go fast," Lasa said.

"If he's really that sick, we don't have much time."

The island was peaceful — but the real enemy was nature itself.

Steep cliffs, thick brush, winding paths.

"Ugh! Cliffs again!" Giel groaned.

"Every time we have to take a detour!"

Then, suddenly…

A group of people emerged from the trees.

They surrounded them — silently.

Swords. Spears. Bows.

All aimed directly at the four.

"Light Wall!" Has shouted.

A glowing wall of magic surrounded them — a shield of radiant energy.

Giel stepped forward, furious.

"Alright — I'm lifting one of you up now."

He raised his hands. One of the men began floating into the air.

"If you don't back off, I will throw him."

The villagers dropped their weapons — clattering to the ground.

Then, they dropped to their knees.

Worshipping them.

"Wait…" Lasa whispered.

"They're… worshipping us?"

"No way… are there no mages on this island?" Has said, stunned.

Slowly, the group backed away from the strange people.

Avoiding further conflict.

They were now…

about 60% of the way there.

So they continued on and reached yet another cliff, but there was no way around — they had to cross it.

Has said:

"I have an idea."

"Light Bridge!"

A solid bridge formed out of light —

Yes, it was made entirely of glowing light.

Has shouted:

"Quick, everyone across!"

Everyone made it to the other side — except Has. He couldn't make it across in time.

But Giel said:

"Don't worry, Has. With my gravity magic, I'll carry you over."

Giel raised his hands, and Has began to float.

Judging by Has's face, he did not enjoy that one bit — understandably.

"Yesss, we made it!"

"Now we just have to climb this hill — his house is up there," said Kad.

They climbed the hill — and sure enough,

there stood a simple house.

They knocked.

As Giel reached out to knock,

the door opened by itself.

"Huh? It was unlocked?"

Then they saw him.

The old man.

Lying in his chair.

Already dead.

"Guys… we didn't make it in time…"

"We should contact the base."

They used the old commander's phone to call HQ.

Soon, a team arrived to pick them all up.

The mission had been completely pointless.

Lasa said:

"Ahh… I hope Mike has better luck."

Giel muttered:

"That was such a waste of time…"

Kad and Has said:

"We really should just get some rest now, okay?"
