My Servant System

A wolf like creature with a hide of metal stood between us and the egg now, the smooth, metallic flesh of this monster glittering red from the mist around us while the white marble just made the silver all the brighter.

Long talons dug into the marble, leaving behind gouges that ruined the perfect flooring, while its barbed, bladed tail swished around idly behind it; even with it brushing against the floor there was little sound to be heard, like it wasn't actually moving.

Something made of that kind of metal should be producing a large amount of noise just by existing, and yet it was deadly silent as it observed us, not moving unless it needed to; there were just two spheres of that red energy swirling around within its eye sockets, shining brighter than the energy we had seen before.

Seamless connection between its jaws made the head of the monster completely smooth, but as Lady Fenyras took a step forwards to test the waters they parted, revealing triple rows of sharpened pyramids that were ready to rend flesh.

It was both a hulking brute of a monster standing at well over six and a half feet tall on all fours, easily being double that in length, but it was also so streamlined and lithe like it was built for speed; giant paws were tipped with swords, a mouth full of daggers and a tail that was as powerful as a warhammer with the agility of a broadsword.

Everything about it was fine tuned for dealing death, and when Lady Fenyras took another step forwards raw mana gathered between its jaws, illuminating those teeth and displaying its strength even more as the wave of power that washed over us was enough to make our hairs stand on end.

That made Lady Fenyras pause, but she only began to grin as the monster stared at her from its position in front of the egg, the Demon Wolf clearly liking the idea of challenging this monster so that she could work out her frustrations.

As for me, I was observing it as it remained right in front of that egg, meaning that it was likely it's egg or an egg that had come into this trial with it; either way it was possessive of that egg and clearly wanted to defend it, which meant it wasn't going to engage unless we provoked it.

"Please don't make a rash decision here. You have already tested my patience far too much."

"Aww, is the breedable Dogkin whining that we actually are doing something now~? Whatever shall I do~? Tell you what, give me a handjob and I'll consider stepping down; otherwise, I wanna kill this thing."

She knew that I wouldn't be doing that, and she also knew that mentioning it was enough to irritate me more, but here she was smirking at me as she readied her weapon and took another step forwards, drawing a growl from the monster.

"I so want to break one of your limbs..."

"You fucking wish you were strong enough to do that, brat. Shut up and support me; that's what you females are for, no~?"

Lady Fenyras was pushing this as far as she could, pissing me off as much as she could before she sauntered forwards and dodged the sphere of mana that shot towards her, angering the monster as well.

As much as I wanted to ignore her and let her deal with the monster by herself, losing the Demon Wolf would only spell inevitable death for me if this monster survived; the stories that they had told me about its brethren were enough to scare me into dealing with Lady Fenyras' crassness.

Summoning my mana, I sent a wave of crystalline spears towards the metallic creature, distracting it as Lady Fenyras got even closer, creating a gap for her to exploit; they shattered against its metallic fur, but it was distracted as it swiped one of those giant paws at them, breaking them before they could crystalize together and hinder it even more.

The Demon Wolf was encased in silver, mimicking the monster and running straight into it with her blade raised, the intense flames that coated it leaving behind a stretch of slightly melted 'flesh' that elicited a sharp growl as the monster swatted at her next.

It was just a feint for its barbed tail, which whipped around far faster than most attacks I had ever seen and was aimed for her skull; even in her defensive form she would be beheaded, and I had to watch in shocked awe as it drew ever closer.

Even with my speed I was almost a half second too late, but it didn't matter as Lady Fenyras did something I hadn't expected; she stepped into the tail and grabbed it with both arms, grunting as it slammed into her body instead but barely being pushed back, surprising me and it.

Yanking backwards the moment its momentum was stopped, the Demon Wolf let out a shout and pulled the monster towards her, its talons scraping across the marble as it desperately searched for purchase in the floor, hoping to hinder her this time.

And yet she was just stronger, freeing me up from a defensive spell and allowing me to switch towards a compressed, thin beam of chilled water that sliced through the monster's shoulder, cutting through its 'flesh' and opening a wound that bled the same energy that created its eyes and the same energy that was all around us.

Yowling in pain, the metal wolf monster slammed its paws downwards and created a crater in the floor, destabilizing Lady Fenyras and allowing it to yank itself free from her grasp, after which it leapt into the air and retreated from us both.

Still between us and the egg, the monster growled and twitched, its metal flesh bubbling before giving way to something new; from its shoulders two new barbed appendages sprouted, snaking down towards the ground before lifting into the air as it attempted to ward us off, while the wounded part of its body shimmered.

That red mist like energy gathered around the wound and sealed it, before it became an almost solid plate of armor that fortified the surrounding area; then it mirrored it on the other side and glared at us both, wary of the next attack.
