Chapter 1306: Challenging Trial (11)
The humming didn't last long as I continued to wade through a sea of people who weren't my damn targets; my frustration was bubbling up the longer it took, and when I heard Jahi let out a triumphant shout as she cut down a random dark skinned human that had thick locks and a skull tattooed on their face my frustration caused me to lash out.
I could still control myself, of course, but the next person to drop to the ground did so with the high likelihood of perishing due to a stopped heart as I overloaded their mind with the horrors I had witnessed before, specifically the dance with death that I had once been made to partake in.
That chill was still something that lingered at the edges of my own mind, and it definitely helped to cool my fire right now as I pushed down on my anger and replaced it with practicality, with efficiency; Janus was still hunting for me, and my targets were here.
They had to be here, with Jahi's own acting as a sort of reassurance to us all as we knew that there was a guarantee that we could come out of this with something; patience was a virtue and all that, and thank the Gods that Aunt D'Arcon had relentlessly reminded me of that over the years.
"Are you alright..?"
Finally the older Demoness asked me that, her curiosity still brimming and palpable ever since I had shifted into this form, her worry, concerns and also her intrigue making me smirk as I glanced at her and said "Never better."
"Uh huh... Does this form make you more like Kat? Because if so that's rather terrifying; thankfully she isn't here, because otherwise..."
Both of the Demonesses shuddered at that thought, while I just chuckled and shook my head as I said "I am not like Kat in that regard. She takes pleasure in the act, finds something thrilling about dirtying herself with the blood of these useless mortals. To me it is the same as taking out the trash; something that needs to be done but not something I want to be doing."
"Ah, great. You're just as fucked in the head as she is, just only in this form. Well... that's manageable I guess."
Jahi remained silent, letting her Mother speak instead and causing me to narrow my eyes as I asked "What do you mean I am 'fucked in the head'? I am rather sane in this state.", which just made her raise a brow before she muttered something that I couldn't catch.
Even with enhanced senses I couldn't hear her thanks to the shouts and clanging of blades around us, and thankfully for her I felt Janus' excitement as the Orthos found one of my marks, my loyal Summon letting out a loud bark and rushing towards them, guiding me towards the first of my targets and the first step to my return towards the other woman who was deemed 'fucked in the head'.
I didn't appreciate it but I couldn't deny it, and yet that was why I wanted to return to her so badly; I wanted to see what I could do to her now that I was back like this, memories of the last time I had been able to have her beneath me in this form turning me on so much that it actually began to hurt.
I needed her, needed her blood, and most of all I needed to make her whimper and beg me for even more~!

Kat PoV
"I swear to all that is holy if you die by doing this stupid shit I will NOT be apologizing nor explaining myself to the Empress! It will all be on YOUR shoulders!"
If she heard me she didn't show any signs, instead focusing on pushing herself through that red mist like it was just some veil instead of an unknown energy that was located inside of a dangerous place.
When she managed to encase her body in Metal Mana to block the various attacks that came her way, I let out a variety of frustrated groans and growls as I set up a variety of defenses around us before running into her back and pushing her forwards.
The extra momentum helped push her through the mist, and instantly she spun around and grabbed my arm, pulling me through as well and causing us to fall into the temple together, with me landing on her chest and causing her to instantly smirk.
"Y'know, I would say you should mind the weight, but considering I can feel what's causing that weight~?"
Growling at her and pushing myself away, I got away from the simple Demon Wolf and instead looked around, groaning again - but not at her - as I noticed just how idiotic she was and what she had caused us to enter without much thought.
The inside of the temple was far larger than it should have been - a running theme of this place was continued, shocking, I know - and it definitely had little 'temple' energy to it, with only the marble flooring being any sign that we were still inside.
That red mist clung to the walls and ceiling in a thick enough cloud that made it impossible to see what hid behind it, while also creating a rather intimidating space that was all the worse when the center of this space was taken into consideration.
Another of those porous black rocks that was likely an egg rested in the center, with this one being whole and still growing, resting atop a velvet cushion and surrounded by ruby flames that radiated a very intense heat.
Coiled around the flames were sentient wisps of mana that instantly brightened up and wandered over towards us, the serpentine bodies they took stretching out and taking a more humanoid shape that hummed with latent power.
The expanse of marble flooring was empty besides this spot, at least it was at first glance; when we walked around the egg and looked around some more, the moment we looked back there was a very large, very powerful looking monster standing between us and the egg, one that I had never seen before but one that I had heard a lot about.
From Jahi, from Mom, from Anput and Leone... during their crusade while I had been whisked away, the monster that had managed to cause so much havoc against them, the monster that had been able to control Gates... it stood between us and that egg in a menacingly neutral stance that gave us no information whatsoever.
