Chapter 32: Inferno Of Fear
The city was in chaos, smoke billowing into the sky as civilians ran for their lives. The source of the destruction was none other than Dabi, the blue-flamed villain whose mere presence turned the streets into an inferno. Buildings were crumbling, and the air was thick with the acrid scent of burnt concrete and scorched earth.
Kikidori arrived at the scene, his usually composed demeanor masked by an intense focus. His green and blue eyes gleamed against the fiery backdrop as he stepped forward, facing Dabi. Behind him, the rest of Class 1-A and several UA pro heroes stood as backup, but it was clear this fight was personal.
"You've caused enough destruction," Kikidori said, his voice low but firm.
Dabi smirked, his pale face illuminated by the flickering flames surrounding him. "And who's going to stop me? You?" His voice dripped with mockery. "A kid who plays with nightmares? Let's see how you handle the real thing."
Before Kikidori could respond, Dabi unleashed a massive wave of blue flames. Kikidori dove to the side, narrowly avoiding being engulfed. The heat was suffocating, but Kikidori stood his ground, his quirk activating with a soft ripple of darkness around him.
The fight was brutal from the start. Dabi's flames roared, consuming everything in their path, while Kikidori countered with his quirk, conjuring shadows that twisted and lashed out like living creatures. The two clashed repeatedly, Dabi's relentless flames pushing Kikidori to his limits.
"You're good," Dabi admitted, his tone still smug, "but not good enough."
With a sudden burst of fire, Dabi landed a direct hit, sending Kikidori crashing to the ground. The impact left him dazed, his uniform charred and skin blistered from the heat. For a moment, everything was silent.
The heroes and students watching from the sidelines froze, their breaths caught in their throats. Aizawa's eyes darted toward Kikidori, his hand twitching as if to activate his quirk, but he held back, knowing this was Kikidori's fight to finish.
Dabi stood over Kikidori, his flames dancing menacingly in his hands. "Face it, kid. You're not cut out for this. Go back to your little hero school."
But then, Kikidori stirred. Despite the pain, despite the burns covering his body, he stood up. The flames still clung to him, licking at his uniform, but he didn't flinch. His green and blue eyes locked onto Dabi's with a fire of their own.
"You think this is over?" Kikidori said, his voice steady, though his body trembled. "I'm just getting started."
Darkness erupted around him as he activated a new attack, one he had rarely used. The shadows thickened, crawling toward Dabi like a living nightmare. Dabi stepped back, his smirk faltering as he felt the oppressive weight of Kikidori's quirk.
"Nightmare Paralysis," Kikidori said, his voice echoing unnaturally.
Dabi froze. His body wouldn't move, no matter how much he tried to fight it. Around him, shadows twisted into grotesque forms, each one reflecting his worst fears. The laughter of an abusive father. The faces of loved ones consumed by his flames. The mocking cries of people who never believed in him.
Dabi's cocky demeanor shattered as he let out a strangled gasp, his eyes wide with terror. He was trapped, unable to escape the horrors closing in on him.
The battlefield fell silent. Even the flames seemed to die down as everyone watched in stunned disbelief.
And then, just as suddenly as it began, Kikidori dropped his quirk. The shadows dissipated, and Dabi fell to his knees, gasping for breath.
The League of Villains took this moment to retreat, some dragging Dabi with them. Toga, however, lingered for a moment. She ran to Kikidori, throwing her arms around him in a quick hug before pulling back and whispering, "See you soon, love."
Kikidori stood frozen as she disappeared into the chaos. When it finally clicked that he had let them go, he cursed under his breath. "Damn it."
The other heroes and students rushed forward, but by the time they were ready to pursue, the League had vanished. The tension lingered in the air as everyone regrouped.
"Are you okay?" Aizawa asked, his tone sharp but concerned.
Kikidori nodded, though his exhaustion was evident. "I'm fine... but they got away."
The silence that followed was heavy, filled with a mix of relief and frustration. Kikidori glanced at the spot where Toga had disappeared, his thoughts a whirlwind of conflict.
