Chapter 191: C137(2)
Hermione soon returned, carrying souvenirs to support the Irish team. Her face lit up with excitement as she showed off her purchases.
The match wasn't scheduled until late at night, so Kain spent the afternoon reading Nicolas Flamel's alchemy notes.
Ron and Harry dropped by to invite Hermione out for another round of shopping, but she politely declined. "I've done enough walking this morning," she said, choosing instead to stay and read alongside Kain.
Resting before the evening's match seemed like the wiser choice.
When night fell, the Quidditch World Cup officially began. The first match pitted Bulgaria against Ireland, with two points at stake for the winner.
On their way to the box seats, Kain and his group encountered a familiar face. Upon seeing him, Kain smiled and stepped forward. "Mr. Malfoy, are you hiding from me?"
Lucius Malfoy turned around, his expression sour. "Hiding from you? Hardly. You're nothing more than a Muggle-born wizard. The pure-blood families won't tolerate your arrogance for much longer, Mudblood."
Kain's smile remained, but his fingers twitched slightly. Without a word, Lucius suddenly felt his legs buckle, and he dropped to his knees.
"No need for that, Lucius," Kain said coolly. "Are you kneeling to a Muggle-born wizard now?" He shook his head mockingly. "And if you get the chance, take your snake-blood cake off the shelves—it's dreadful."
With that, Kain strode past Lucius and continued toward his box. His relationship with the pure-blood faction was irreparable, especially after their lobbying had led Fudge to impose restrictive policies on his potion materials shop.
What made matters worse for Lucius was that no one else had noticed Kain using magic. The combination of silent incantations and wandless casting rendered his actions undetectable, even by Aurors.
"Godfather, that was incredible!" Hermione whispered excitedly into Kain's ear. She had been the only one to see the subtle movement of his fingers, and while she admired his skill, her hatred for the slur "Mudblood" left her seething.
Soon, the match began. Although Kain had little interest in the sport, he still watched. Despite the overwhelming support of the home crowd, Bulgaria triumphed over Ireland with undeniable strength.
Bulgaria not only won the game by two points but also gained an additional three points by surpassing Ireland by over 100 points.
"It's so frustrating! Why did they have to lose like this?" Hermione complained angrily on their way back. She wasn't a fan of flying broomsticks, but she had been rooting for the Irish team and was deeply disappointed by their crushing defeat.
Kain smiled, reaching out to ruffle Hermione's fluffy hair. He wasn't particularly concerned about the match.
Instead, he was aware that the Death Eaters were likely to cause trouble tonight. Setting aside the alchemy notes he had been reading, he prepared himself for the inevitable disturbance.
Soon, strange noises echoed from outside—screams, explosions, and the unmistakable chaos of a commotion.
"Phil, Isaac," Kain called calmly.
Two house-elves appeared before him in an instant, bowing low. "Master, what are your orders?"
"Protect this place. I'm going out to take a look," Kain commanded.
Hermione, having noticed the noise as well, immediately said, "Godfather, I'm coming with you!"
"No, you stay here, Hermione," Kain replied firmly before heading out.
Hermione wanted to protest, but Phil and Isaac stepped in to block her path. Although they adored Hermione for her kindness, they couldn't disobey Kain's direct orders.
Hermione took a deep breath and said, "Fine, I'll go upstairs to rest. Make sure this place is secure." But as soon as she reached her room, she began devising a way to slip out unnoticed.
Outside, the scene was chaotic. Fires burned everywhere—not the warmth of bonfires, but the destructive glow of spells cast by masked and hooded figures.
Death Eaters rampaged through the area, attacking tents and scattering panicked onlookers.
As they advanced toward the VIP area, one of them spotted Kain. "He's here!" the Death Eater shouted.
Kain was one of their primary targets that night. Beyond causing a riot and declaring the Dark Lord's resurgence, their mission included eliminating Kain, who had disrupted the pure-blood families' interests.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Diffindo!"
"Petrificus Totalus!"
"Fiendfyre!"
Spells flew toward Kain in rapid succession, but he remained unfazed. With a flick of his wand, he transfigured the ground into a magical wall to block the Killing Curse.
The rest of the spells bounced harmlessly off his armor enchantments, rendering them ineffective.
One Death Eater, attempting to wield Fiendfyre, quickly lost control of the dangerous spell. The flames transformed into a massive fire dragon that turned on its caster, incinerating him in an instant.
The dragon, now untamed, grew larger, spreading destruction as it attacked indiscriminately.
"Damn it, Amycus! You can't control Fiendfyre!" one Death Eater shouted, frantically casting counterspells to contain the raging fire. But Kain had subtly taken control of the Fiendfyre, amplifying its ferocity.
A Death Eater struck at the fiery dragon's head with a spell, only to watch in horror as it re-formed instantly.
"Someone help me! Argh!" screamed Rozier as his arm was consumed by the flames.
The remaining Death Eaters, realizing the danger, joined forces to dispel the Fiendfyre. It took dozens of concentrated spells to finally isolate the fire dragon and allow it to burn itself out.
The fact that they succeeded at all was only because Kain had chosen to let them. Had he actively opposed them, not even their combined efforts could have extinguished the flames.
"Torn apart!"
Kain cast a shattering spell, aiming at a Death Eater.
The spell was so silent that it was nearly undetectable. The Death Eater's body exploded into pieces with a deafening bang, scattering fragments everywhere.
The spell's force was so immense that it blasted a deep hole in the ground behind the fallen Death Eater's remains.
"It's too powerful. I should stick to petrification or stunning spells. Capturing these people and sending them to Azkaban will make it easier to annex their families' businesses," Kain mused.
Ignoring most of the incoming spells, he methodically countered, casting one precise spell after another. Death Eaters fell one by one under his attacks, unable to withstand his silent and efficient spellwork.
"Retreat! Go quickly! When the Dark Lord returns, I'll deal with him myself!" one of the Death Eaters shouted in panic.
Realizing Kain was too powerful, some of the attackers attempted to escape using Apparition. However, Kain had anticipated this and cast an anti-Apparition spell over the area beforehand.
Their attempts to vanish into thin air were futile.
For those who tried to take to the air using flying spells, Kain swiftly targeted them. His precision left no room for error; every spell he cast was lethal or incapacitating.
Before long, Kain had subdued all the Death Eaters in the vicinity. Some lay stiff under the effects of petrification spells, while others were unconscious from stunning spells.
None of them would regain mobility for at least a day or two unless someone came to their aid.
Once the area was secure, Kain cast a controlled shattering spell with just a trace of magic, breaking the masks on their faces.
He glanced at their exposed identities. While most of them were unfamiliar, Lucius Malfoy was unmistakable.
"Godfather!"
Hermione came running toward him, her voice filled with worry. Once she reached his side, she began examining him closely.
"Godfather, are you hurt? I saw several Death Eaters attacking you from a distance! I even took one down over there," she said breathlessly.
Kain placed a hand on her head and gently ruffled her hair.
"I'm fine, Hermione," he assured her with a small smile. "But you must promise me not to do anything this dangerous again."
