Chapter 192: C138(1)
After a while, Aurors from the Ministry of Magic appeared on the battlefield. They saw the Death Eaters lying unconscious on the ground and, nearby, only Kain and Hermione standing.
Seven or eight Aurors instinctively cast a few Stunning Spells at them.
However, when their spells struck Kain's Armor Curse, they only caused a negligible ripple. It would take hundreds of similar spells to break it.
"What are you trying to do, Mr. Barty Crouch? After the Death Eaters are defeated, are you planning to attack me?" Kain asked coldly.
With a wave of his hand, the ground next to the Aurors transformed into several clay statues wielding massive swords, raised as if ready to strike.
It was not an attack, but a clear warning—if Kain wanted to, these Aurors could be taken down instantly.
"Stop, Barty! This is a friend of the International Magic Trade Association!"
Luwen Amoto came running from a distance, quickly intervening to stop Barty Crouch. He explained Kain's identity to him.
Upon learning that Kain was a professor at Hogwarts and the owner of a potion ingredient shop, Barty Crouch lowered his wand.
He secretly breathed a sigh of relief, realizing Kain was not a Death Eater. The thought of battling such a powerful wizard had shaken him.
"My apologies, Professor pent," Crouch said in a more relaxed tone. "It's dark, and I didn't recognize you."
"It's not a problem," Kain replied. "These people on the ground are the Death Eaters who attacked the Quidditch World Cup tonight. You can take them back, Mr. Crouch."
With another wave of his hand, Kain dispelled the clay statues, much to the Aurors' relief. Having a stone statue holding a sword aimed at one's neck was far from comfortable.
Under Luwen's introduction, Barty Crouch adopted a friendlier demeanor and stepped forward. "Professor pent, is this everyone?"
"Aside from a few who managed to escape, yes," Kain replied.
Suddenly, a man appeared, camera in hand. "Gentlemen, can I take a picture of you all?" he asked. However, he had already taken several shots before asking.
"Stop! You are not allowed to take pictures right now!" Crouch snapped angrily at the man.
"It's a small thing, Mr. Crouch. Let him," Kain interjected with a smile. "These people disrupted the Quidditch World Cup, one of the few moments of joy wizards share. I think everyone has the right to know who ruined it."
Kain recognized the photographer as Lovegood, Luna's father and the editor-in-chief of The Quibbler. He nodded in greeting.
"Mr. Lovegood, make sure to get clear pictures of these prisoners' faces," Kain said. "Mr. Crouch worked hard to organize this event, only for it to be ruined by these Death Eaters. It's a serious crime. In my opinion, they all deserve to be sent to Azkaban."
Though reluctant, Crouch silently agreed with Kain. The Death Eaters had caused enough trouble, and their timing couldn't have been worse.
But Crouch understood why Kain had asked Lovegood to take pictures—he wanted to use these Death Eaters to undermine Minister Fudge's position.
A quick glance at the fallen figures on the ground revealed that many came from prominent pure-blood families, with some even being supporters of Fudge.
"Minister of Magic linked to Death Eaters disrupting the Quidditch World Cup?"
Crouch could already imagine the headlines in the wizarding newspapers tomorrow, likely causing a major uproar in the Ministry of Magic.
After Lovegood finished taking the photos, Crouch, eager to avoid further complications, quickly said to Kain and Luwen, "Professor Pent, Luwen, I still have matters to attend to. I'll take my leave and handle this situation immediately."
With that, he instructed the Aurors to take the captured Death Eaters away. Due to their large number, he left two Aurors to guard the scene and sent for reinforcements upon his return.
"We'll head back as well. Mr. Lovegood, Luwen," Kain said, bidding farewell to the two before walking back toward the camp with Hermione.
On their way, they passed the Weasleys, who were hastily leaving the area. It seemed their family was the only one left in the camp.
Upon their return, Kain's house-elves, Phil and Isaac, saw Hermione walking in from outside and immediately assumed their negligence had allowed her to slip away.
Overcome with guilt but unable to harm themselves under Kain's orders, they cried profusely and blamed themselves.
Hermione tried to comfort them to no avail. Finally, Kain instructed them to pack up and prepare to leave, which stopped their tears and sent them off to organize the departure.
The Death Eaters had caused chaos at the Quidditch World Cup, and it was uncertain whether the tournament would continue.
Many people had likely been injured during the attack. If the Ministry of Magic wanted to salvage the situation, it would need to act decisively—perhaps by imprisoning all the Death Eaters involved in Azkaban and demonstrating a firm resolve to deal with future troublemakers.
Only such measures could restore public trust in the Ministry, which was now on the verge of collapse, especially under the influence of Kain's actions.
After returning, Hermione expressed her disdain for the Death Eaters. However, she admitted that the one thing they had done right was ending the Quidditch match; otherwise, the Irish team would have lost multiple times over.
She proudly mentioned that she had managed to knock out a Death Eater and hoped for Kain's praise.
Kain, however, refrained from complimenting her. While encouragement was important, Hermione was still too young, and it wouldn't be wise to foster a reckless attitude toward fighting Death Eaters.
With the start of school approaching, Kain planned to focus on his alchemy experiments.
Hermione, realizing the summer had already been thrilling—spending time in Romania and taking down a Death Eater at the Quidditch World Cup—decided it was time to set aside her adventurous thoughts and prepare for the term ahead.
Hermione intended to continue refining potions. Potions had always been her strong suit, and according to Guy, she had a high chance of passing the N.E.W.T. Potions exam even now.
However, Guy could no longer teach her anything new. To progress further, she would need instruction from renowned potions masters, but such individuals were notoriously difficult to hire.
Grandmaster potion makers no longer valued Galleons, as they could earn far more by selling a single bottle of an advanced potion.
For now, Kain couldn't offer much assistance either—unless he monopolized the supply of potion ingredients across Europe, forcing 90% of potion makers to depend on him.
