Marvel: The Amazing Spider-Man in the Multiverse

Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Second Mutation?

Peter Parker woke up on Monday morning, looking up at the ceiling of his bed and letting out a deep yawn.

"Why is my bed on the ceiling?"

Realizing this, Peter suddenly dropped from the ceiling, then looked at the blanket stuck to his hand, feeling confused.

What happened? Isn't this supposed to happen the day after I get bitten? Did I travel back half a year? He confusedly glanced at the clock by his bed, confirmed it was September, then took a deep breath, trying his best to relax. That way, the blanket would fall from his hand.

The result... it did fall, but with a slight difference. Peter noticed his hand, no, his entire body, had become transparent. Light passed right through him.

He immediately thought of the Universe 42 spider that had bitten him, and Peter, startled, shot into the bathroom. His invisibility faded, and the mirror showed a completely normal Peter Parker.

Good news, he hadn't turned into a human spider, nor had he grown six arms, but now he couldn't properly control his strength. He tried to open his wardrobe to change into some clothes. Despite being careful enough, he still tore the wardrobe door off.

A helpless Peter sighed and looked at the Spider-Disk he had placed on his desk. That was probably the only piece of clothing that wouldn't be torn to shreds by his uncontrollable strength.

The only thing that struck him as odd was why, on Earth-700, he hadn't activated these abilities a day after being bitten. Instead, they had only activated after he returned to his own universe?

Gwen Stacy was about to leave for school. At this time, Peter would most likely already be out dispensing justice in his costume, but not today. She heard Peter calling her name, turned, and saw Peter Parker's head poking out of the window: "Hey, Gwen? Can you help me out?"

"I... can? What's wrong?"

"It's a bit complicated. I'll throw you the key, you open my door first."

Peter finished speaking and gently tossed his key out the window. Gwen watched a perfect arc slice through the air for over 200 meters, landing directly in a distant bush. She turned to look at Peter.

Are you serious?

What could Peter Parker do? He could only sigh, then wait for Gwen to pick up the key and open the Parker's door. After Gwen went upstairs, she saw Peter Parker, dressed in his full costume, waiting for her at the staircase. She couldn't help but ask, "What happened?"

"Um... to put it simply, I had a bit of an accident during a mission yesterday, and I can't control my powers properly anymore." Peter said, leading Gwen into his room, showing her his wardrobe with the door ripped off, and the doorknob to his bedroom that he'd accidentally twisted into a crumpled mess when opening the door.

Gwen made an "oh" sound of understanding, then looked at Peter: "What do you want me to do?"

"First, open my phone. You know the password. Then open contacts, find Tony Stark. His contact name should be Toy Store Owner."

Gwen skillfully opened Peter's phone, flipping through it and looking at him strangely: "Toy Store Owner?"

"In case Aunt May ever saw it, I couldn't exactly explain why I have Tony Stark's number in my contacts, could I? Help me connect the call." Peter watched Gwen dial the number, then had her hold the phone to his ear. Once the other end picked up, Tony curiously asked, "Calling on your first day after joining the Avengers? You could just come to Avengers Tower, kid."

"That might be a bit tricky, Mr. Stark. Yesterday... I was bitten by a radioactive spider in another universe, again."

Tony Stark on the phone and Gwen outside the phone both exclaimed "What?" in unison.

"It's complicated. In short, I can't control my strength very well anymore, and I've gained some new abilities. Can you send someone to pick me up and take me to Avengers Tower? Happy's on his way? Okay, thanks."

"You were bitten by the same spider twice?"

"Not the same spider. One was an Oscorp spider from our universe, the other was an Alchemax spider from another universe." Peter sighed, then looked at his wardrobe: "I also need your help, Gwen. I can't just walk out of the house in my costume. You need to help me find a jacket and pants, and help me put them on."

Gwen, holding Peter's phone, pursed her lips and nodded.

"You owe me one, smart kid."

"I know..."

"You have to take me for a swing around Manhattan."

Peter Parker sighed heavily again.

A few minutes later, Peter Parker, bundled in a thick jacket in September, looked left and right as he walked out of his house and slid into the car door Happy had already opened. Before he could even settle in, he saw Gwen climb in as well.

Happy, wearing sunglasses, looked at Gwen, then at Peter.

"She knows what I'm doing, so... it's fine," Peter said helplessly, then looked at Gwen, who was sitting obediently and smiling: "Can you call in sick for me? Just say I'm ill, use your phone, thanks."

"No problem."

In the car, Gwen called in sick for both Peter and herself, saying Peter's family was out and she needed to help take care of him. Then she watched the car enter the Avengers Tower underground parking lot. Happy, without a word, opened the door for Peter, who couldn't control his strength, and led them to the elevator leading to the top floor of the tower. He opened the elevator, then gave Peter a stern look as he entered the elevator with Gwen, pointing two fingers from his eyes to Peter.

Peter sighed.

"You seem to be in pretty good shape. You haven't stomped a hole in our floor." Tony, with his back to Peter, confusedly poured Peter a glass of milk: "How did you get bitten by a spider? Where's your 'Peter Tingle'?"

He turned to hand the milk to Peter when he saw Gwen, who had come up with him. He let out a surprised "Oh," then raised an eyebrow, walked past Peter, and handed the milk to Gwen. Gwen took the milk and politely introduced herself: "Hello, Mr. Stark, I'm Gwen, Peter's neighbor and friend."

"This girl's good. So, what happened, kid?"

"I don't know. My spider-sense didn't go off before I was bitten, and I didn't feel any changes on the other Earth. I came back, slept, and woke up like this."

Peter said innocently. Tony frowned. Could it be fixed? Probably not too difficult, but the question was how long it would take. While both the Avengers and Fantastic Four had plenty of scientists, none were experts in bio-genetics, and the best gene programming and mutation specialists were almost all at Oscorp.

However, putting Peter at Oscorp? Tony wouldn't agree to that; Oscorp wasn't exactly reputable.

But learning from scratch would definitely take a lot of time...

Tony Stark thought of someone.

"Do you know King T'Challa's queen, kid?"

"You mean the former X-Men, Storm? What about her?"

"The X-Men's Beast, Hank McCoy, the geneticist, is still at the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters." Tony smiled: "I can have Ororo schedule an examination for you."
