Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Return

After Aurora returned to her own universe, the first thing she did was go home and tell her parents she was fine.

Their house was in the same place as in the past (present for Arthur), in Queens.

The blue portal left her on the tallest building in Manhattan—the Avengers Tower.

As soon as she realized where she was, she entered the building and greeted everyone with a smile.

"Hi, Aurora!" A girl her age suddenly hugged her tightly.

"Alexia, let me go!" Aurora said as she looked at the girl whose name was Morgan.

This girl was Alexia Stark, the daughter of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts.

She and Aurora had been friends since they were little, as Arthur—Aurora's father—and Tony Stark—Alexia's father—were close friends who had worked together several times.

"My dad told me he's working with Ruby on a new suit for you," Alexia said as she walked beside Aurora.

"Seriously?!" Aurora's eyes lit up.

"Have I ever lied to you?" Alexia laughed, puffing out her chest proudly.

"Do you really want me to answer that?" Aurora frowned, recalling the times Alexia had tricked her.

"Hey! That's not fair..." Alexia coughed lightly and turned her face away in embarrassment.

They quickly arrived at the landing pad of the building.

"I'll see you later, Alexia! I have to go home." Aurora waved goodbye to her friend.

"See you later! And don't forget our promise!" Alexia replied as she waved.

[A/N: If my memory serves me right, Tony Stark's daughter is named Morgan, so it would've been weird not to take that into account with the protagonist's surname. Imagine how strange it'd be for your daughter's name to be the same as your friend's last name.]

As she waved her hand, Aurora entered a specially designed jet.

[Welcome back, Aurora.] As soon as she entered, a warm, mature voice echoed from the jet's interface.

"Ruby! I missed you!" she laughed as she began to pilot the jet.

To avoid drawing attention, she activated the jet's stealth mode.

"Is Dad already home?" Aurora asked.

[Yes, he arrived a few minutes ago.]

"I have so much to tell him!" she laughed.

[I see you had a lot of fun.]

"Yes! I even got to see Daddy and Young Mom! They were so defensive!" she said, recalling the younger versions of Arthur and Gwen.

[Yes, they've really changed a lot over the years.]

[By the way, it seems your other mothers are here today.]

"Really?! I haven't seen them in so long!"

[Don't forget they have responsibilities in their own worlds too.]

"I know, but still—it's been a while since they visited! Did my little brothers come too?" Aurora puffed her cheeks but then smiled as she asked about her cute younger siblings.

[Yes, Takumi has grown a lot since the last time the redhead was here], Ruby said.

[Alex has grown a lot too. You should see his hair, fufu~]

[That mix of Arthur's silver hair with your mom's hair color makes him look even cuter.]

"You know you don't have to spoil everything for me, right? I'm almost there. I can see with my own eyes."

[Ara~ I got a little carried away~]

"You really can't stop with that 'ara~', can you?" Aurora laughed, thinking of a beautiful black-haired woman who had made Ruby talk that way.

[Unfortunately, it's become a part of me.]

"We're here!" Aurora said as she landed in the garden.

As soon as she got out of the jet, a small missile hit her chest.

It was a white-haired girl, around four years old—the youngest daughter of Arthur.

"I missed you, Nye-chan~" the little girl said, rubbing against Aurora, with cat ears and a tail showing she wasn't entirely human.

"I missed you too, Kyouko." Aurora smiled, rubbing Kyouko's head as the little girl began to purr.

Looking up, she saw her beloved father leaning against the door, smiling.

"You two are as close as ever~" Arthur said with a smile.

"It's more like I'm her catnip." Aurora replied, walking toward Arthur with Kyouko still clinging to her.

Shortly after, Gwen appeared behind Arthur and hugged Aurora.

"How was your adventure, my little baby~?" Gwen asked with a smile.

Over the years, her appearance had changed a lot. Unlike her tomboyish temperament from before, she now exuded a mature charm.

"Yes! You and Dad were so different back then!" Aurora said, hugging Gwen.

"Fufu~ I'm glad you had fun, but your break is over." Gwen's smile made Aurora break into a cold sweat.

"Don't tell me—" Before Aurora could finish, someone interrupted.

Bang!

"It's been a long time, Aurora. I'd like to see how much you've improved." A redheaded woman in armor suddenly pulled her from Gwen's arms and unconsciously bumped her chest.

"That hurt!" Aurora groaned, rubbing her forehead.

"Even after all this time, you still do that! And I told you to take that armor off when you're here!" Gwen's eyebrows twitched.

"Yes, it's been a while since I've seen you too, Gwen." The woman smiled, hugging Gwen.

"Alright then, Aurora, let's see how much you've improved since the last time I saw you." the redhead said with an unnatural grin.

"Hehehe..." Aurora laughed nervously, realizing her fate.

Elsewhere...

At that moment, a blue portal appeared on the balcony of Arthur's house.

A few seconds later, Arthur himself stepped out of it.

"Ahh~ I'm finally back. Home sweet home..." he murmured, stretching.

[Master.] Ruby appeared in front of him.

"It's good to see you again, Ruby. Did anything happen while I was gone?"

[Something quite strange, actually.] Ruby replied.

[Soon after you and Gwen disappeared through the portal, a blue telephone booth suddenly appeared in the yard.]

(Don't tell me...)

[A couple and a child stepped out of it. Considering the booth's size, not even two people should fit inside—let alone three.]

[Then I noticed something: the two adults looked exactly like you and Gwen. And the child... had features of both.]

"As I suspected..." Arthur sighed.

[Do you know something about this, Master?]

"Let's not talk about it. Also, delete any images of them from the cameras or any device that captured their appearance."

He didn't want to risk creating a temporal paradox by witnessing his and Gwen's future selves.

[Understood... Done.]

"Alright, how long was I gone, Ruby?"

[Just over three hours since the portal took you and Gwen and now, your return.]

"Three hours? So the time flow between these universes is that different...?" he murmured in surprise.

"What about Gwen? Is she back?" Arthur asked as he walked toward his room.

His clothes were completely ruined after the recent battle and transformation.

[Yes, Master. She arrived exactly ten minutes ago.]

"And where is she?"

[She went to Oscorp.]

Ruby explained that Gwen had gone to Oscorp right after returning to retrieve one of the Lizard's serums.

Even after spending days in another universe, she hadn't forgotten how urgent the situation was in this one.

They still needed a cure for Peter.

"I see... Ruby, contact Jarvis and ask him to tell Tony I need his help. Let him know I'll call in a few minutes."

"By now, Gwen might already have the serum. We need to fix this quickly."

[Okay, Master.]

After that, Ruby's body dissipated.

———

Meanwhile, in the New York sewers...

On a maintenance platform, dried blood was smeared across the floor.

The Lizard lay there, its body convulsing.

A layer of slimy green skin was peeling away.

From the old shell emerged a new, more terrifying version—larger, darker, more powerful.

At its feet were piles of human bones.

Over the past few hours, it had captured and devoured numerous unsuspecting victims who dared wander into the tunnels.

"Oscorp..."

"Thanks to your recklessness, I've gained so much power."

"Soon, I'll begin the next stage of human evolution."

"I will become... the God of the New World!!"

[A/N: Sorry, I couldn't resist making a joke here...]

NYPD

In George's office, Connors sat in a chair across from the captain.

"Dr. Connors, is there any way to bring Peter back to normal?"

"I don't know... and I'm not sure I can make a serum to turn him human again," Connors said with a resigned sigh.

It was clear this incident had hit him hard.

He blamed himself.

"But we still have to try, don't we?"

"If you need anything, let me know immediately. This isn't just about saving Peter anymore."

"Peter is becoming a threat to the public."

"I understand, Captain Stacy..."

"I can try to make something, but I can't guarantee quick results."

"I know. But the sooner you start, the sooner we might find a way to make him human again," George said.

"I understand. I'll need..."

"And also a lab."
