Marvel : Deadpool Is My Best Friend

Chapter 167: Chapter 167 : The Future of Mutants

After Alex Ray, Wanda, and Doctor Strange finished their hearty meal, Magneto and Professor X invited Alex to a private conversation.

Alex frowned slightly. He couldn't help but wonder what the two veteran mutants wanted to discuss with him.

Though somewhat confused, he nodded and led them to the farthest corner of the restaurant, where a large sofa awaited, enough for the three of them to sit and talk quietly.

Alex sat down, his eyes shifting between Magneto and Professor X, trying to gauge their true intentions.

He wasn't particularly eager for a private chat with these two old men. Were it not for Wanda's sake, he might have refused outright.

At this moment, his mind was filled with anticipation. He wanted to check the system immediately to see how much friend value this battle had earned him.

Magneto glanced at Professor X and nodded slightly, signaling him to speak first.

Magneto planned to wait until Professor X left before discussing things in more detail with Alex. After all, he didn't want to reveal to his old friend that this proud mutant was about to join the chaotic Hell's Kitchen—a matter of pride.

Professor X's gaze locked onto Alex, his eyes gleaming with deep intensity.

He spoke slowly, "Alex, we want to hear your thoughts on us mutants. What do you believe our future holds?"

When Professor X finished speaking, he stared expectantly at Alex, eager for insight.

Alex felt a bit surprised by the question.

He didn't quite understand why Professor X would ask him such a thing; after all, they didn't share much common ground.

However, he noticed that Professor X used the word "we," as if placing himself and Alex in the same camp.

Alex knew in his heart he wasn't a mutant but a normal human enhanced by system-given abilities.

Still, he understood the worries and confusion that weighed on Professor X and Magneto's hearts.

Mutants, as a special breed, had long been misunderstood and excluded by society.

They yearned to be accepted, to find their place and their future.

Alex responded slowly, "If you look at it normally—aren't mutants human? Don't they eat, drink, defecate, and have children like anyone else? Mutants are just humans with special abilities."

He paused before continuing, "In many ways, mutants resemble the people of Hell's Kitchen. Both groups are despised and excluded, but both survive tenaciously."

"Does anyone in Hell's Kitchen care about what others think?"

"I think mutants don't need to overly concern themselves with outside opinions. As long as they live their own lives well, that should be enough."

Alex took a sip of water and glanced at Professor X and Magneto before continuing.

"Also, Professor X, you're too gentle. And Magneto, you're too extreme."

"You two leaders haven't done very well in this regard. The people don't actually have the grand ideals you think they do. They just want to live ordinary lives and avoid conflict. You're the ones driving them to act. You're the ones making decisions for them."

"Maybe they don't want to please the government or humans, nor do they want to be enemies with them. They just want to be themselves."

Alex really felt that, no matter who it was, Professor X was like a dog always trying to please humans—and in the end, achieving nothing.

And Magneto dreamed of conquering the world every day, ignoring that mutants are a minority, and asking who would manage that world for them after conquest.

In other words, this country has a short history, but those before them have already experienced these cycles.

These two men: one plays the good guy, the other the bad—but nobody really pays attention.

Alex's eyes locked onto the two old men before him. Their faces were carved by time, yet their eyes still burned with hope for the future.

He went on, "As for mutants' future: either they will be wiped out entirely, or they'll establish their own nation and live separately, or they will lose their powers and become ordinary humans again."

"No matter how hard we try, humans will never erase the barriers between them and mutants. Humans will always fear the unknown."

What Alex said was unpleasant, but true. Mutants would either be tools of the government or subjects for research.

In truth, Alex didn't blame the government. Some mutants' powers are simply too unstable.

Thinking this, he looked at the two old men again.

In front of these powerful mutants, humans are like lambs to the slaughter, vulnerable to destruction at a whim.

Humans are selfish and contradictory. Unless most humans become mutants, mutants' future is just waiting for extinction.

Not every superpowered being is as kind as Professor X—Homelander is the perfect counterexample.

"You two old men, it's time to retire and enjoy your retirement. Let mutants decide their own future."

Alex finally said, "Sometimes, we need to learn to let go. If you really want to do good for mutants, then you can establish a mutant nation. But that will be very difficult."

Alex also knew Professor X and Magneto weren't the type to give up easily, so he added softly.

After hearing this, Professor X felt bitter. He didn't expect all his efforts would be dismissed so easily by Alex.

In fact, he understood what Alex meant but still hoped that ordinary humans would change their view of mutants through his efforts.

He admitted to being a bit too protective, but without discipline, mutants would either become a threat to society or be eliminated by the government before fully maturing.

Professor X took a deep breath and acknowledged that establishing a nation was an ideal solution.

But he also knew how difficult that would be.

Not only would it require massive funding, manpower, and energy, but also the challenge of societal resistance. It was almost impossible.

Meanwhile, Magneto had fewer concerns.

He admitted his methods might be extreme, but believed only by showing the world mutant power could they avoid being bullied.

Though it might make people fear mutants more, in his mind it was necessary to protect them.

He was determined to stay in Hell's Kitchen. Since management wasn't his forte, he'd leave that to Alex.

Seeing how Alex could stir up trouble, there would definitely be no shortage of fights in the future. So he could just be the muscle.

In his heart, Magneto already looked forward to Alex and Wanda's future.

He hoped they'd marry, have a powerful child, and even a grandson who'd become an even stronger mutant.

Originally, Alex was ready to leave after the conversation, but unexpectedly, Professor X said quietly,

"I wonder if Hell's Kitchen will be willing to accept mutants."
