Life Of A Nobody - as a Villain

Chapter 436: Death

Amy was busy analyzing the properties of styx and it's relationship with Apate's punishment plan when a sudden breaking sound broke her focus.

She watched as a speeding truck broke the barricade and crashed towards the car her doppelganger was sitting inside.

Darkness covered her mind for a second, like a blink of eyes, and when her vision was restored, she found herself trapped in the body of her doppelganger.

The world around her seemed to be moving slowly, like someone turned on the slow motion switch. Maybe it was an illusion. Or maybe her senses were sharpened feeling the adrenaline rush or fear of death.

But Amy now could see, sense, feel, and hear everything around her more clearly than ever before.

She watched the oncoming truck coming towards her in horror, felt the blinding light sting in her eyes, and heard the honking sounds of continuous horns.

She could feel the heat from headlights when the truck got closer, feel the air whizzing past her skin carrying shards of broken glass windows and covers. The curses and warnings from the truck's driver and onlookers from sidelines were turned into deafening roars in her ears.

{Get out, the brakes aren't working.}

{Clear the road. A truck is coming,}

{Run… Run… Run}

{Ohh my God}

{Someone save her.}

{Call an ambulance}

{Call 108}

{Catch the driver. I'll call the police.}

She tried to step out of the car, to run away, to raise her arms to cover her ears, to protect her head _ but halfway through, before her raised feet even touched the ground, she felt a force ram her body and send it flying across the street. A weightless feeling ran through her body followed by a wave of pain that shattered her several bones.

Her head landed first, hitting the cold concrete floor. And upon impact, she could feel her skull crack, and shoulder dislocate as she rolled a few times further. Her mind froze and became numb. Processing pain at an inhumane pace.

Her new clothes had turned into tatters, the white suit now dyed red in blood. Her smooth skin, torn from numerous cuts and scratches, with pieces of glass, bones, and stones sticking out from several places.

The small pebbles below her felt like spikes against her skin, and the sky felt unusually dark as she tried to open her eyes again.

The innocent girl who lived the life of a princess, being loved and protected by everyone around her _ was now lying in the middle of the road, covered in blood, waiting for her own death.

It was painful.

It was bloody.

And it hurt like hell.

She wanted to cry, to scream, to shout for help _ yet every time she tried to open her mouth, her throat would cough up new blood.

Tears were streaming down her eyes, mixing with the blood and losing their original color. Forming the stark contrast between the red and white.

"He… p"

"Helppp"

"Elppaa"

She couldn't speak, couldn't move, and couldn't even flinch _ she could just stare at the crowd which started surrounding her. Her eyes searching for someone who could save her.

For someone who could stop this pain.

Yet there was none.

The crowd of onlookers ignored her pleaful eyes and kept chattering and cursing amongst themselves.

Amy couldn't hear anything except a sharp ringing in her ears, yet she could feel it was hopeless.

The crowd probably saw her bloody state and felt too afraid to touch her _ feeling their slightest movement might cause her death, and then they'll have to take the blame.

It was either this, or that they were all busy taking out their phones and recording videos and posting pictures online.

Amy's struggle to survive began to slither out in seconds, like loose sand slipping through tight fists, her life was slipping away too.

She could feel it. Feel her own death.

The air was getting colder all of a sudden. Her body feeling heavier than ever before.

She was having a hard time recollecting stuff, one moment it was a cry of her current pain, another a flash of memories from the past. One moment it was the flash of light amongst her bloody pupils, another a candle on her birthday cake.

Maybe life never flashes before death's door _ it just slips.

There was so much she wanted to do. So much she wanted to see. Her hopes and dreams, her present and future _ everything was just slipping away. Disappearing in darkness.

It was the first time she came to the city, she wanted to travel. To enjoy. To adventure. _ She wanted to go back and tell her parents how good the sister in law her idiot brother had found._ She wanted to attend their marriage, play with their children. Give them names. _To have a happy family and a big house of her own. _ A career of her own.

Yet everything _ all of it _ was going away.

Maybe it was just a few seconds, maybe mere minutes, or perhaps even shorter _ she couldn't tell anything.

While she was lying there waiting for death under immense pain and a broken body _ her thoughts went through all kinds of emotions. From pain, to grievance, to regret, to anger, to animosity, _ to acceptance.

From questioning how it happened? Why it happened to her? From the initial sadness to the hopeless despair. From lonely struggle to losing life. From feeling fear to feeling nothing. From waiting for help to asking for death.

Sometimes death is mercy. And she needed it now.

Her closed eyes opened in a flutter as she felt someone grab her body and jerk her up.

"...be fine —(Ria) . Hold on. Okay. Ambulance is on … know the best doctor… you'll live…I shouldn't have gone… been here with you… my fault…???(Shiva) is coming…hold.. Please.."

Amy watched the other girl hold her dying body in her arms and speak something. The gentle voice was broken in between her own losing consciousness. She couldn't clearly tell what any of it meant, but seeing someone close on her last breaths brought a smile to her lips.

Amy felt her consciousness use the last of it's remaining strength to tighten her fingers around the other girl's arm, and speak her final words.

"You promised. Don't… … heart. Urgghh Or I'll hate you forever."

As she finished speaking, she lost all her strength and took her final breath.

Amy suddenly felt the grip on her consciousness slip away, and found herself back into her soul (ghost) form. Floating above the corpse of her doppelganger.

She watched the other girl, whose name she still didn't know, helplessly cry and scream, trying to wake her doppelganger again.

She didn't know what to feel at this moment, a part of her lived that life, went through this process of death, and now her soul was free again. Calling it confusion would be a luxury.

"No, no, no, noo, nnnooo _ this can't be happening. Please. Please. God please. —(beep) answer me, please. Wake up, I'm begging you."

"----(beep) don't scare me like that. I know you can hear me, just hold on, okay. Please, you have to live."

"Why? Why is this happening? Why now, when all is finally going perfectly? —-(beep) please wake up, if not for me, then for him. You can't die, it'll break him."

"So please … don't die.."

Amy watched the girl grieve and shook her head. She could see the other girl checked her pulse and felt her heartbeat sometime ago_ the girl knew that she was dead, but refused to believe it.

Overwhelming sadness often causes one to turn blind even when the reality is in front of them.

Amy watched as the girl's cries went from the gentle calling to desperate prayers.. From the initial shock and disbelief to the final sadness and despair_ she was about to turn around and leave to see her killer, the driver who was caught by the crowd _ when a roar shook the world.

"Noooo rgghh"

Amy felt her ghost body freeze in place as she watched darkness cover everything around her. It felt like the whole world was shrouded in shadows, like someone put a veil over light or swallowed the sun.

She watched the driver being pulled towards something. He was choking and flailing around, trying to free himself, like a dark figure clasped his neck. Amy watched the light of life disappear from his eyes and his body crumble to dust in darkness.

She was unable to feel anything in her current state, yet her soul was trembling in fear at this instant unlike anything she ever felt before.

She felt powerless, but not like when she was against Apate, or Gauri, or other gods and goddesses _it was something else. Something much worse.

If standing in the presence of gods brought pressure which forced mortals to kneel in reverence, then being in this darkness felt

… abysmal.

She couldn't put it into words.

She didn't even know if there even was a word suitable for the utter feeling of despair she was feeling right now.

Her sea of mana which Apate sealed, the power of elements which she couldn't access before, the boundary between chaos and her mind which she couldn't cross _ it all shook with that angry roar and broke under the pressure of darkness.

She knew it, yet she couldn't do anything about it. She couldn't even command her thoughts, let alone control her body.

Click..

The sound of a finger snap echoed in Amy's ears, and like a mirror, the world around her started to crack. She felt herself being pushed out of this illusion, and back into the river styx.

Her gaze swam across the broken pieces of this 'mirror' and finally landed on a shard where she saw the reflection of her corpse being held by the girl.

But unlike before, this time no fog was hiding the girl's face, the angry roar or the mysterious finger snap had shattered it away.

And in her last moments in this illusion, Amy could finally see the face of the girl who accompanied her doppelganger's death.

"Saisha?" Amy muttered in confusion before everything disappeared.

Author note - I've tried to keep the description for the oncoming death scene real as how I see it. (Yeah, I've had a close call before. Not so close though or I wouldn't fantasise about it.)

Do tell me how you liked it. Rate it. Comment if it was good, bad, or just average.

Also to clarify, I've intentionally left her thoughts wander before death aimlessly, that's why one paragraph it's description of pain, another about her dreams. Then her past, and then switch to something else.

I thought instead of making her journey towards death a streamline flow between thoughts and reality, it should be mumble jumbled _ just like how in reality it would be.
