The weeks following his encounter with the thugs felt like an odd mix of peace and chaos. On the surface, Akira's life returned to normal—school, hanging out with friends, the occasional awkward conversation about how "lucky" he was.
He focused more on the strange, inexplicable confidence that came and went without him knowing. He clearly felt that he could defeat almost anything with the right timing.
However, one thing was undeniable: the strange energy growing inside him was not normal. It was almost like a second heartbeat, pulsing through his body, growing stronger with each passing day. He couldn't pinpoint when it had started, but it felt like every fight, every dangerous situation, seemed to make it grow.
His once ordinary walks home from school now felt like an adventure. Akira couldn't help but think he was just walking through a movie set for some absurd action film, only he was the unintentional protagonist. And as bizarre as that sounded, it turned out, he wasn't wrong.
It was just another day. He had his earbuds in, lost in his thoughts, when the dark alleys seemed... different. He couldn't quite place it at first, but there was something off about the air. Like the atmosphere had taken on a strange hue—like it was waiting for something to happen.
And then, he saw them.
They were scattered across the alleys, some small and shuffling, others towering and grotesque. Akira blinked, trying to make sense of the scene.
The creatures—if you could call them that—mumbled to themselves, their disjointed words barely audible in the distance.
At first, he thought they were puppets in costumes, some sort of elaborate prank, but as he moved closer, the smell hit him. It was foul, like a mix of decay and something indescribably dark.
"What... are these?" Akira whispered, more to himself than anyone else.
Out of the corner of his eye, one of the smaller creatures lurched toward him, its clawed hands outstretched. Without thinking, Akira took a step back and swung his arm out in a reflexive and experienced motion.
The punch connected with the creature's body in a burst of unexpected force, sending it flying into the air. It collided with a lamppost. Akira stared in shock, his breath caught in his throat.
The remaining creatures around him went silent.
Suddenly, everything seemed to move in slow motion. Akira felt the energy inside him surge—almost as if it were awakening. A strange warmth spread through his body, and without realizing it, he extended his hand, focusing the strange, negative energy within him.

[New battle begins]
[Congratulations! You have unlocked Negative Energy Manipulation (Mastery.)]
Negative Energy Manipulation: You can now control the negative energy growing inside you, using it as a limb extension to manipulate.
Akira watched, stunned, as dark energy began to form around his arm. He didn't even have time to process the notification before another creature lunged at him.
He instinctively thrust his arm out in front of him, and the energy wrapped around his hand like a shield. The creature collided with the energy, and it was like hitting a brick wall. The creature recoiled in pain, screeching, but it was completely powerless against the energy and disappeared.
In a panic, Akira pushed forward, instinctively using the energy to reinforce his body. It felt like his entire arm had become weightless yet stronger at the same time. He punched through the creature, sending it flying backward, only for the next to approach.
This time, instead of thinking, he simply did.
He coated his fist with the dark energy, feeling it pulse through him like an extension of his own limbs. With one clean blow, he smashed through the creature's body, its form crumbling into dust.
He continued fighting, using his newfound energy manipulation to overpower the creatures with ease. And though he still had no idea what was going on, Akira felt something shift in him. His mind was clearer, his body more responsive. It was like the energy inside him had fused with his own instincts, pushing him to fight even harder.
Overall, mastery of negative energy manipulation enhanced his combat potential, sensory perception, and energy efficiency, ultimately making him more effective in combating these strange beings.
Soon, the creatures around him had been reduced to nothing more than a pile of dust and ash. Akira stood, panting, his heart racing from the intensity of the fight.

Akira stood still, trying to understand what had just happened. His mind raced. This was beyond anything he had ever encountered.
But just as quickly as the creatures had appeared, they were gone. There was no time to process the absurdity of the situation—no time to sit down and think about what had just happened.
What are these things? Akira thought, looking around cautiously. Am I some kind of calamity magnet now?
As days went by, the encounters with these cursed spirits seemed to increase. One after another, he kept stumbling across these strange beings—sometimes smaller, sometimes larger, but always dangerous in some way. And every time, Akira's negative energy would surge, pushing him to fight back, to survive.
It was always the same—he would be in the right place at the right time, and his luck would ensure that these curses always met their end. Whether it was through instinctive punches or sheer accident, he always found a way to defeat them.
But what baffled Akira the most was the fact that he never received a clear reward, but every morning he could feel more power.
Sure, there were some skills unlocked. It was like the system was giving him pieces of a puzzle but never the full picture.
The more he fought, the stronger his negative energy manipulation grew. Soon, it was no longer just about reinforcement—it was like he could control the energy itself, using it like telekinesis as invisible weapons, barriers, or even as a sort of lifeline to keep himself going in battle.
What started as confusion began to feel more like a strange kind of power. He was becoming more proficient with the energy, tapping into new levels of skill he never imagined he'd possess. He felt like he was reaching a stage beyond mastery.
He was growing confident with these encounters.
However, his mysterious encounters with cursed spirits did not go unnoticed by others.
Over time, more and more cursed beings seemed to vanish from certain areas. It wasn't just the frequency of the spirits, but the sheer number that disappeared.
And as always, where there was an enigma, someone was bound to investigate.
