I’m a Girl, He’s a Psycho, and This is Fine

Chapter 43: Chapter 21.1: Whispers in the Dark

"Are you serious?" Li Weiwei asked, leaning against the edge of her desk, an eyebrow arched. "You're still thinking about him?"

Bei Ling nodded, her hands tucked under her chin as she stared out the dorm window. "He's… complicated."

Li Weiwei scoffed. "That's one way to describe a guy who never talks, never smiles, and always looks like he's about to exorcise someone."

"He's not that bad," Bei Ling mumbled. "He helped me once."

"Sure. And I'm secretly a werewolf."

Bei Ling giggled. "You'd look good with fur."

But the light mood quickly shifted as the room temperature dipped unexpectedly.

Li Weiwei glanced at the thermostat. "Did someone turn on the AC?"

"No," another girl replied from the top bunk. "It's been doing that since last night. Cold one moment, normal the next."

The lights flickered.

Silence fell over the dorm.

Then a soft creaking noise came from the closet.

Everyone stared at the door.

"Nope," Li Weiwei said, grabbing her jacket. "I'm not dying like this. I watch horror movies. I know how this ends."

"I'll go check," Bei Ling offered bravely, though her steps were cautious.

She opened the closet slowly.

Empty.

But the air inside was noticeably colder.

"Nothing's there," she said, trying to sound casual. "Probably just the wind."

"Wind doesn't flick the lights," Li Weiwei muttered. "Or open closets."

Later that night, Bei Ling sat on her bed, wrapped in a blanket, staring at her phone.

She debated whether to message Shi Mo.

They weren't particularly close. But something about Shi Mo always felt... grounded. Safe.

After a moment of hesitation, she opened the chat app.

Bei Ling:Hey. Weird question. Do you believe in ghosts?

She stared at the screen.

No reply.

Yet.

Back in the boys' dormitory, Shi Mo stood by the window of Room 415, sensing something strange in the air.

The Gu inside her stirred slightly.

"There's movement," it whispered. "Something restless nearby."

She glanced toward Fu Yunshen, who was lounging on his bed with a book.

"You feel that?" she asked.

He didn't look up. "The drop in temperature?"

Shi Mo nodded.

He flipped a page. "It's not the weather."
