Shi Mo sighed. "I guess we're going ghost hunting again."
Fu Yunshen finally looked up. "What is it this time?"
"I think Room 407 is haunted."
He groaned. "Why can't we just have one peaceful weekend?"
"Because peace isn't in our contract."
He stood and grabbed his jacket. "Fine. Let's go."
At the girls' dorm, Bei Ling met them at the stairwell, arms crossed, clearly trying to seem braver than she felt.
"I didn't expect you to actually come," she admitted.
Shi Mo shrugged. "Would've come sooner if I'd known someone was freezing in fear."
"I wasn't scared."
Fu Yunshen muttered, "Then why are your socks on the wrong feet?"
Bei Ling looked down, blushed, and shuffled them back into place.
Inside Room 407, the air was undeniably off.
It felt dense, as if something unseen was pressing down on everyone's shoulders.
Li Weiwei crossed her arms. "See? I told you. The lights flicker, the room gets cold, and my shoes were lined up perfectly this morning. I don't do 'organized.'"
Fu Yunshen walked around slowly, inspecting the furniture.
Shi Mo moved toward the closet.
"It's coldest here," she murmured.
Then she paused.
Inside the closet, written faintly on the inner panel with what looked like a fingernail:
"I'm still here."
She stepped back.
"Okay," she said. "This isn't just a chill breeze."
