Happy Death System

Chapter 30: Chapter 30

The Real Family Plan

Meanwhile, at the same time, in a towering downtown skyscraper, inside the CEO's office, Robert was pacing back and forth. Harold sat in a chair directly in front of Robert's desk, wiping sweat that wasn't there with a handkerchief.

"This is ridiculous... where the heck did Samuel's body gone?" Robert mumbled.

"Mr. Robert, why are you so bothered by this?" Harold asked.

Robert stopped pacing, then turned to look at Harold with such a sharp, cold stare that it made Harold jump.

"You ask why? Because that woman, Elenor Whitmore, left all her money and assets to Samuel, and if we can prove Samuel is dead, we can make sure all that inheritance goes to Derek. That's why we need his dead body as evidence. Got that!" Robert yelled, his face getting redder.

"Bu...but what about Samuel's twin we met at the bank?" Harold asked.

"Samantha? I don't know why she's popping up now, but I'm sure she's involved. I'm having someone look into where she got all that wealth. She's messed up my plan. She paid off the mortgage for Thompson Building Corporation, so the owner's daughter got away from Derek. I need that company for my business, dammit! I'm sure she used Elenor's inheritance to pay for it. I'll definitely confirm it once I get proof from my private investigator," Robert said, getting louder.

"So... what are you going to do with her once you know where her money came from?" Harold asked.

"Of course, I'll take care of her, just like Samuel. She's not my kid either since she's Samuel's twin. Derek is the one who deserves everything," Robert said, fired up.

"What about Melissa?" Harold asked.

"She'll understand. She's a good kid, and she's much more independent than Derek. My wealth alone is enough for her," Robert replied.

"I'll pretend I didn't hear any of this, sir, as usual," Harold said.

"Good. Please help me find Samuel's body as evidence. Get anyone you think is suit for the job, don't worry about the cost," Robert replied.

"O-okay, sir. Again, I don't know anything about this conversation," Harold replied, wiping sweat that wasn't there.

Meanwhile, behind the CEO's office door, Melissa stood leaning against the slightly open door, clutching a folder so tightly her knuckles turned white and trembled with anger.

"So that's Dad's desperate plan to find Samuel's body. I thought he actually really cared about Samuel... that's too much, outrageous, " Melissa muttered to herself, seething.

After Samantha calmed down, Richard sat next to her, smiling.

"You should rest for a bit. For now, just work from home. I know this whole thing must be traumatizing for you, so no need to rush. Your position at the office is secure; no one can take it because you are a shareholder," Richard said.

"Thanks, Uncle. (Seriously, Uncle, I've been through a lot of trauma, ugh)," Samantha replied.

"Alright, Samantha, I've got to go. I need to get back to the construction site. Again, thank you so much for saving my wife, and I'm really sorry about what happened in the alley," Billy said.

"Yeah, thanks for coming, Bill," Samantha replied.

Billy said goodbye to Richard and Sarah, then kissed Carmen on the cheek and left the room. Samantha turned to see Carmen still sitting on her bed.

"I'll stay here. My restaurant where I work, probably closed due to the incident, right?" Carmen said, holding Samantha's hand and smiling.

"Hehe, true," Samantha replied with a smile.

"I'll be here later too. For now, I'm going home to get some clothes for you to change into when you move to the inpatient room," Sarah added.

"Who are you going with?" Samantha asked.

"With me. I'll drop her off at home and come back here with her," Richard answered.

"Oh, okay. Sorry to bother you, Uncle," Samantha replied.

"Nonsense, Sam. I'm grateful to you because you saved my company from falling into your father's hands and you saved Sarah from Derek," Richard replied, taking Samantha's hand and holding it with both of his.

"You're welcome, Uncle," Samantha replied, smiling.

"Sister Samantha is family now, right, Dad?" Sarah asked with a wide smile.

"Haha, you're right. I've gained another daughter," Richard replied, smiling.

"Th-thank you... sniffle... sniffle," Samantha replied.

"Oh, she's crying," Carmen said.

"S-sorry, this is the first time anyone has treated me like that, and... I'm not overthinking it," Samantha said.

Sarah immediately hugged Samantha again, making Samantha wince as her arm moved, but her face looked incredibly happy. Suddenly, "Swoosh," a man still dressed like a SWAT team member opened the curtain. Everyone immediately turned to look at him. He stood in front of Samantha's bed.

"Are you alright, ma'am?" the man asked.

"I'm fine... who are you?" Samantha asked.

"Ah, right. My name's Alex. I'm the one who subdued the criminal holding you hostage earlier. I saw what you did from outside," Alex replied.

"Oh... you were the one wearing the mask earlier?" Samantha asked.

"That's right, ma'am. I just came to make sure you're okay before we head back to headquarters," Alex replied.

"I'm totally fine, thank you, Mr. Alex," Samantha replied.

"You're very welcome, ma'am. You're truly brave and amazing. You've become an inspiration for many of our team members. If you'll excuse me, good afternoon," Alex replied.

"Th-thank you, Mr. Alex, good afternoon," Samantha replied.

Alex bowed to Richard, Sarah, and Carmen, then immediately turned and walked out, closing the curtain behind him. The atmosphere became quiet.

"So, you're a hero now, huh?" Richard broke the silence.

"That's a bit much, Uncle," Samantha replied.

"But reckless, and ended up getting hurt," Sarah chimed in.

"And super daring... though I'm incredibly grateful," Carmen added.

"Next time, wear a bulletproof cape, okay?" Richard teased with a smile.

"Oh man... I'm not Batman, Uncle (even though I'm rich and could buy all that Batman gear... with Hades's help, haha)," Samantha replied.

Everyone burst out laughing, including Samantha, who laughed freely as if she had no worries. She glanced at Sarah, Carmen, and Richard, who now truly felt like family to her.

["Calling me sir?"]

"No... don't get ahead of yourself," Samantha replied in her head.

[Okay, sir.]

After that, they continued chatting. Richard took Sarah home to get clothes, while Carmen stayed with Samantha at the hospital. Suddenly,

"Achooo!" Samantha sneezed.

"Oh, are you sick?" Carmen asked, standing and touching Samantha's forehead.

"It's nothing, I'm fine," Samantha replied.

"Okay, sorry but I'll be right back, I'm going to the bathroom for a sec," Carmen said.

"Yeah," Samantha replied.

After that, Carmen stepped out of the cubicle, leaving Samantha alone for a moment to go to the toilet. As soon as Carmen closed the curtain, Samantha wiped her nose.

"Is someone talking about me, I suddenly sneezed," Samantha mumbled.

["That's right, sir. Someone indeed had been talking about you.]
