Chapter 31: Chapter 31
The Next Day
The next day, Samantha had been moved to an inpatient room. Sarah stayed up all night looking after her after coming back to the hospital with some clothes for Samantha. After changing, Sarah got ready to head to her campus. She turned to look at Samantha.
"Sis, I'm heading out now, okay? I'll come straight back here after I'm done," Sarah said.
"Okay, thanks. If you're tired, it's fine if you just go home," Samantha replied.
"No way, I don't want to be home alone, not since our neighbor across the street tried to get me into some shady business. I don't want to get trapped a second time," Sarah replied.
"Alright, I get it," Samantha said.
"See you later, Sis," Sarah said, holding the doorknob.
"Yeah, be careful on your way," Samantha replied.
Sarah opened the door and left. After closing it and making sure Sarah was gone, Samantha opened her dimensional storage and took out her new laptop. She held up both palms, and a bright light appeared, forming the laptop which landed on her hands.
"Okay, for now, I'll use this laptop to browse. Later, when I get home, all the data from my old laptop will be transferred," Samantha thought to herself.
["Don't worry, sir, everything has already been transferred to the new laptop."]
"Oh, really? That's good, so I don't have to bother with it," Samantha replied.
Samantha opened her laptop. She saw that the screenshots she took were already saved on the new laptop's drive, even though she had already backed them up in three places online. Suddenly, an email popped into her inbox. Turns out, all those emails were in her fake account, not her main one. The email was a reply from Ryan, Jessica's husband, which just said one sentence: "Thank you, I was already suspicious before." Samantha smile while reading the reply,
"He read my email, huh? Now it's all up to you to deal with your wife, I'm not getting involved anymore," Samantha mumbled with a smile.
"Knock... knock," the door to Samantha's room was tapped. "Click," the door opened, and Jeff and Mason peeked into the room, seeing Samantha sitting on the bed with her arm bandaged, looking at her laptop. Samantha turned to look at them both and smiled.
"Jeff... Mason... come in," Samantha said.
"Okay, we're coming in," Jeff replied.
Jeff opened the door. They were carrying flowers and dressed neatly in shirts with ties.
"Are you okay, Samantha?" Jeff asked.
"I'm fine, come on in and sit down," Samantha replied, inviting them to sit.
"We can only stay for a bit because we have to go to the office. Yesterday, when Oscar called to ask why you weren't at practice, someone else answered and told Oscar you got shot and were in the hospital, so we came here before going to the office," Jeff said.
"A week ago, you were all bloody on the street. What exactly are you doing?" Mason asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Um... that blood wasn't mine, actually," Samantha replied.
"Really?" Mason asked suspiciously.
"Seriously, yesterday I just happened to be unlucky and got caught as a hostage," Samantha replied.
"We know the story. The girl who answered the phone yesterday told Oscar everything, and he immediately told us both," Jeff replied.
"Who answered the phone from Oscar yesterday?" Samantha asked.
"Hmm... who was it? Oscar mentioned her name yesterday. Do you remember, Mason?" Jeff asked, turning to look at Mason.
"If I'm not mistaken... Seraph... no... Sarah," Mason replied, thinking.
"Oh, Sarah, right? She's my friend and roommate," Samantha replied.
"I see. Well, the important thing is you're okay," Jeff replied.
"Jeff, there's something I want to talk to you about, but let's wait until my DNA test results come out," Samantha said.
Jeff and Mason looked at each other with surprised faces, then they turned back to look at Samantha.
"You... you're pregnant?" Mason asked.
"Really? The only thing related to DNA tests besides a child looking for their parents is pregnancy. You're Samuel's twin, so it's clear you're not looking for your parents," Jeff added.
"Oh... you guys didn't know?" Samantha asked.
Jeff and Mason immediately shook their heads, their eyes fixed on Samantha.
"Um... yeah, I'm pregnant and I have submitted a DNA test for my baby, now I wait for the result," Samantha said.
"Creak," hearing Samantha's words, Jeff immediately pulled a chair, turned it around, and sat down. He placed his bouquet of flowers on the table and looked at Samantha with a serious face.
"The father doesn't want to take responsibility, and you want to ask for child support?" Jeff asked, his lawyer instincts kicking in, getting straight to the point with Samantha.
"Wow... not a waste to be a lawyer, you get straight to the point, but that's not what I want... because actually, I don't need support from him," Samantha replied.
"Then what? Besides child support or asking for responsibility, there's no reason to do a DNA test, right?" Jeff asked.
"Alright, I'll tell you a glimpse of the story," Samantha replied.
Samantha explained to Jeff and Mason based on what Melissa had told her, and then she also told them everything about Maxwell, even showing them Maxwell's social media account.
"I want to destroy him legally, and if it has to be through asking for child support from him to destroy him, I'll do it. I want to know what legal options I have to hit him," Samantha said.
"Hmm, interesting," Jeff mumbled.
"How did you get pregnant with him, though? Didn't you guys use protection?" Mason asked.
"I was drunk at the time, and well... it was productive," Samantha replied.
"Send everything to me, Sam. I'll look at it first, then we'll wait for your DNA test results. After that, we can discuss the steps we can take," Jeff said.
"Okay, I'll send it by email," Samantha replied.
Samantha immediately sent screenshots of Max's Instagram account, evidence from the live streaming, and comments on Maxwell's account using her main email. "Ding," Jeff's smartphone rang. He opened it, but suddenly his face showed surprise.
"Wait, you sent me an email using Samuel's account?" Jeff asked.
"Oh... um... yeah, I borrowed his account, haha (Oh no, I forgot he know Samuel's account, this is bad)," Samantha replied nervously.
"Hmm, okay, don't worry about it," Jeff replied, looking at the live streaming screenshot.
Mason peeked at Jeff's smartphone. Suddenly, his eyes widened seeing the woman in the screenshot. He immediately snatched Jeff's smartphone and looked at it up close.
"Hey, isn't this my colleague's wife from the office? They always come together to company events," Mason mumbled, looking at the photo.
"Oh... you know someone named Ryan?" Samantha asked.
"Of course, I know him. He's on my team at the office; we're both software engineer there," Mason replied.
"I see (Oh man, it's a small world). I already sent this evidence to him. Please don't tell him I sent it, okay?" Samantha replied.
"You already sent it to him?" Mason asked.
"Yeah, to his work email," Samantha replied.
"Hmm... okay, if you hadn't sent it, I definitely would have. I won't tell him you sent it," Mason replied, handing Jeff's smartphone back.
"Thanks, Mason," Samantha said.
After chatting for a bit, Jeff and Mason said their goodbyes to head to their office. Once they left, Samantha hung up her phone and caressed her belly with a smile.
