Chapter 25: Chapter 24 Dr. Lin
In the main control room, a pale blue screen gave off a faint glow, reflecting the faces of Dr. Lin and the attending physician. The two stood in front of the screen, staring intently at the surveillance footage displayed on the screen. Ethan is seen lying on a bed in his hospital room, his eyes staring emptily at the ceiling and his body shaking slightly.
Dr. Lin frowned and turned to the attending physician. "Do you think we might be too aggressive for him with this new drug?"
The attending took a deep breath and shook his head, "I'm not sure, Dr. Lin. Although the drug has had some success in animal experiments, its effect in humans is not fully established. We need to be cautious."
Dr. Lin's eyes flashed a cold, "Ethan is an ideal test subject. His mental state is extremely unstable, and he's our best candidate for testing a new drug. If this drug works, we'll have a major breakthrough."
The attending physician hesitated and said, "But, Dr. Lin, we're doing this inhumanely. Ethan had no idea he was being used as a guinea pig."
"Science always requires some sacrifice." Dr. Lin's tone was icy. "We have to look at the big picture, and Ethan's sacrifice is worth it for more people with mental illness to find an effective treatment."
The attending physician was silent for a moment, then finally nodded, "I understand, Dr. Lin. I will continue to monitor Ethan's condition and record all the data."
Dr. Lin nodded with satisfaction, picked up Ethan's case on the table, opened it and read it carefully. The attending physician stepped aside and began taking Ethan's physiological data.
"Ethan's dreams are interesting," Dr. Lin said, his eyes resting on one of the notes in the case. "He repeatedly refers to a dark forest and werewolves chasing him. What do you think?"
The attending physician walked over to Dr. Lin and carefully read the note, "This may be a manifestation of his subconscious fear and stress." Ethan's life experiences and state of mind led him to these horrific dreams."
Dr. Lin nodded, "These dream elements are very symbolic. The forest represents the unknown and the fear, and the werewolf may symbolize some sense of oppression within him."
The attending physician mused for a moment and said, "But there are some contradictions in the details of these dreams. The scenes and events Ethan mentions are sometimes inconsistent, suggesting that what he experiences in his dreams is not real, but rather a chaotic reaction in his mind."
Dr. Lin gave a sneer, "This is exactly what we need. By analyzing the contradictions and errors in these dreams, we can better understand his mental state and thus find the key to treating him."
The two continue to pore over Ethan's dream records, looking for logical errors and inconsistencies. They found that many of the details Ethan described in his dreams were inconsistent and sometimes completely contradictory.
"Here, for example," Dr. Lin pointed to an entry in the case, "Ethan mentioned in one dream that he was being chased by werewolves in the forest, but in another dream he described meeting a mysterious woman in the same spot." These dreams are clearly disconnected."
The attending physician nodded, "This inconsistency shows that Ethan's dreams are not a continuous story, but a reflection of his inner turmoil." The details in these dreams are just fragments in his mind that he unconsciously puts together."
Dr. Lin continued to scroll through the case, his eyes resting on a recording of Ethan's dream, "It is mentioned here that Ethan has repeatedly seen an old abandoned cabin in his dream. The cottage seemed to have a special meaning for him."
The attending physician thought for a moment and said, "The abandoned cabin may symbolize some deep sense of loss or abandonment in Ethan. This feeling may stem from certain experiences in his childhood."
Dr. Lin nodded. "Through further psychological analysis, we can find out the symbolic meaning of the hut and better understand Ethan's inner world."
The two continue to analyze the records in the case, gradually uncovering more details and contradictions in Ethan's dreams. They discover that Ethan's dreams are not only full of terror and chaos, but also many reflections of his own identity and real life.
"Ethan mentions several times in his dreams that he has become a werewolf," Dr. Lin said, "which may be a symbol of deep confusion and insecurity about his identity."
The attending physician nodded, "The werewolf is a contradictory figure, with both human reason and emotion, and the instinct and brutality of the beast. This image may reflect Ethan's inner struggle."
Dr. Lin continued, "These dream elements are important to our understanding of Ethan's state of mind. By analyzing these details, we can better identify the key to treating him."
The attending physician mused for a moment and said, "But we can't ignore the possible side effects of these drugs. Ethan is already exhibiting extreme distress and confusion, which could further worsen his mental state."
Dr. Lin sneered, "That's what we need to observe. If these drugs can trigger a strong enough response, we can better analyze his mental state and find a more effective treatment."
The attending physician nodded, although he was still a little hesitant, but he knew that he must obey Dr. Lin's instructions. He continued to record Ethan's physiological data, making sure every detail of the experiment was documented.
Ethan's body shook slightly in bed, and his face showed a pained expression. His consciousness was constantly torn between reality and dreams, unable to find a way out. His mind was filled with countless broken pictures and sounds, as if there were countless selves struggling in different times and Spaces.
The data on the monitor screen began to falter, and Dr. Lin frowned.
"He's getting worse," whispered the attending physician. "We need to do something or he could slip deeper into a coma."
Dr. Lin thought for a moment, nodded, and decided to take more drastic measures. She stood up, her eyes calm and firm. "I'm going to wake him up so we can get more detailed data from him."
The attending looked at her quizzically, "But it might be risky."
"We don't have time," Dr. Lin said coldly. "I'll take care of it."
She went to the medicine cabinet and pulled out a small bottle containing a quick-wake medication. She loaded the medication into a syringe and did a quick check of the security cameras around her to make sure no one had noticed. Then she walked carefully over to Ethan's bedside and, pretending to hide from hospital surveillance, quickly injected the drug into Ethan's arm.
Ethan's body shook violently, then slowly calmed down. Dr. Lin watched him nervously, praying that the drug would work quickly. After a few minutes, Ethan's eyelids began to flutter, and then he slowly opened them.
"Ethan, can you hear me?" Dr. Lin asked softly, trying to put him at ease in a soft voice.
Ethan's eyes were staring blankly at the ceiling, as if he had not fully regained consciousness. His lips moved a little, and a faint sound came out. "I... Where is it..."
Dr. Lin breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the drug had worked, "You're in the hospital, Ethan. You just experienced a dream, and now I need you to tell me, what was your reaction after taking the second drug?"
Ethan's mind was still confused, but he struggled to focus and recall how the drug had made him feel. His voice was weak and broken, but he tried to say every word.
"A headache... A terrible headache... Feel like Countless needles prick... Through my head..." Ethan struggled, a flash of painful memory in his eyes.
Dr. Lin nodded, gesturing to the attending physician to record the response data. "Go on, Ethan, how do you feel?"
"The sight... Vague about The walls Twist around Shortness of breath... The heart beats violently..." Ethan's voice grew weaker, but he tried to remember.
"Very well, Ethan, you are doing very well," Dr. Lin continued to guide, "Any other feelings?"
"Fear... Unspeakable fear... As if Held by invisible hands..." Ethan's voice began to shake, and his body shook slightly again.
Dr. Lin felt uneasy, but she knew she had to go on. "What about the details in the dream? What do you see?"
"The dark forest... Tall trees... A thicket of thorns... A low growl..." Ethan's eyes widened, as if he were back in that horrible dream. "I'm running... Try to escape from But no matter how you run... The voices are still chasing..."
"Did you see something chasing you?" Dr. Lin continued, trying to dig out more details.
"Werewolves... Those werewolf eyes... With a bloodthirsty light..." Ethan's voice quickened, as if in panic again. "I can't run... Heavy legs... It's like lead..."
"Very well, Ethan," Dr. Lin comforted him softly. "You did very well. Do you remember what happened after you fell?"
"Falling down... Tripped over a tree root... Those werewolves are closing in... I feel hopeless..." Ethan's voice grew weaker and his eyes went blank again.
Dr. Lin motioned for the attending physician to stop taking notes, knowing that Ethan's consciousness had begun to blur again, "Okay, Ethan, take a break." You've helped us a lot."
Ethan's eyes slowly closed and his body fell silent again. Dr. Lin looked at him with mixed emotions in his eyes. She knew she was experimenting with Ethan, but she also knew that if the drugs worked, they would make a major breakthrough.
The attending physician walked over to her and whispered, "Dr. Lin, we've got a lot of good data, but Ethan's situation is really dangerous."
Dr. Lin nodded, "I understand. But we have to keep going. We are one step away from success."
The attending physician sighed, "I hope everything we did was worth it."
Dr. Lin did not answer, her eyes still fixed on Ethan. She knows that scientific research always comes with risk and sacrifice, and Ethan is just one of the unfortunate victims. She can only hope that all this brings the desired results.
As the hours passed in the silence of the hospital room, Dr. Lin and the attending physicians continued to monitor Ethan's condition to make sure he didn't develop a more serious reaction. Ethan's body heaved slightly on the bed, as if hovering between dream and reality.
After a few hours, Ethan's condition gradually stabilized, and the monitoring data returned to normal. Dr. Lin breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that they had passed this dangerous moment for the time being.
"We need to keep watching," Dr. Lin told the attending physician, "to make sure he doesn't have any more unexpected reactions."
The attending physician nodded, "I will continue to record the data and keep you updated."
Dr. Lin walked out of the ward to the main control room. She picked up Ethan's case and began dissecting the response data he had just provided. She knew the data would be crucial to their research.
"Ethan's dreams are filled with fear and confusion," Dr. Lin said to himself. "The details of these dreams are very important to our understanding of his state of mind."
She opened the medical records, dissected every detail of Ethan's dreams. She found that Ethan's dreams not only reflected his deep fear and stress, but also revealed his confusion and insecurity about his identity.
"The werewolf, the forest, the chase," Dr. Lin whispered. "These are very symbolic elements."
She continued to analyze the details of the dream, trying to find more clues. She found that Ethan had repeatedly mentioned in his dreams that he had become a werewolf, which could be a sign of deep confusion and insecurity about his identity.
"Werewolves have the human intellect and emotion, but also the instinct and brutality of the beast," Dr. Lin mused. "This image may reflect Ethan's inner struggle."
She went on to analyze other details in the dream and found inconsistencies in many of the scenes and events Ethan described in the dream. This suggests that his dreams are not a continuous story, but a reflection of his inner turmoil.
"The contradictions and errors in these dreams are very important for us to understand his mental state," Dr. Lin said to himself. "By analyzing these details, we can better find the key to treating him."
She continued to scroll through the case, finding other inconsistencies and errors in Ethan's dreams. She found that many of the details Ethan described in his dreams were manifestations of his deep fear and stress.
"For example, the werewolf eyes he mentioned in his dreams," Dr. Lin said, "those eyes had a bloodthirsty glow that could symbolize a deep sense of oppression."
She went on to analyze other elements of the dream and found that many of the scenes and events Ethan described in his dreams were reflections of his real life.
"These dreams are not just a manifestation of fear and confusion," Dr. Lin said. "They also reflect Ethan's confusion and insecurity about his identity and the reality of his life."
She closed the case and took a deep breath, knowing that she had found many useful clues. But she also knew that the process of treating Ethan would take more time and effort.
"We must continue to study the details of these dreams," Dr. Lin told himself. "Only then can we find the key to treating him."
She walked out of the control room and back into the ward to find Ethan still asleep in bed. His body heaved slightly, as if he were hovering between dream and reality.
Dr. Lin walked over to the bed, gently stroked Ethan's forehead and whispered, "Ethan, we're going to find a cure for you. Please hang in there."
She knew that Ethan's pain was only temporary, and that if they found the right way, he would be able to resume his normal life. She also knows that her research is not just for Ethan, but for all people suffering from mental illness.
"Scientific research always comes with risk and sacrifice," Dr. Lin told himself. "But if we can find a cure, it will be worth it."
She returned to the main control room and continued to analyze Ethan's medical records and data, trying to find more clues. She knew that her task was far from complete, but she also knew that if they kept at it, they would find a cure.
