Chapter 16: Chapter 15 Which world to choose
Dr. Lin smiled, but his face was still serious. "Ethan, there's one more thing I need to tell you. Your childhood sweetheart, Elena, she's in intensive care."
Ethan's heart suddenly sank, his eyes flashing with fear and remorse. "Elena? What happened to her?"
Dr. Lin sighed, "When you went crazy, you not only hurt me, but also hurt Elena and some security personnel." Elena sustained serious injuries and is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit."
Ethan felt a rush of remorse and pain, his hands clenched into fists, his fingernails almost embedded in the flesh. "It's all me... It's all my fault... If it wasn't for me, she wouldn't..."
Dr. Lin took the opportunity to ask, "Ethan, you need to make a choice right now. Would you rather stay in the real world or go to the dream world?"
Ethan's mind was in a muddle and he couldn't answer the question. In the real world, what he did led him into deep remorse and pain; And in the dream world, although full of danger and unknown, but also in his heart can not give up the friends and mission.
Seeing Ethan did not answer, Dr. Lin took out two boxes of pills and placed them on the table in front of Ethan, "There are two pills here, one that can make you fall into a deep sleep and enter that world." The other can greatly suppress your cortical activity, making it difficult to dream, but also has a certain risk of dementia."
Ethan looked at the two boxes of pills, filled with struggle and conflict. He didn't know what to choose, and every choice seemed to have unbearable consequences.
Dr. Lin stood up and tapped Ethan on the shoulder. "Whatever choice you make, we'll support you. Now, you need to rest and think."
She left the room and the door closed softly. Ethan looked at the two boxes of pills on the table and felt overwhelmed. He had to make a decision, but that decision left him feeling miserable and helpless anyway.
He picked up two boxes of pills, looked at them carefully, and then quietly hid them under his pillow. He knew that this was not an easy decision, that he needed time to think about it, to weigh the pros and cons.
As night fell, Ethan lay in bed and closed his eyes, his mind kept seeing Elena's face, her gentle smile and caring eyes. He felt a pang of heartache and knew he had to find the answer to all this.
"Elena, I'm sorry..." Ethan said silently in his mind, a tear falling from the corner of his eye. He knew that no matter which world he chose, he could not avoid the deep remorse and pain. But he also knows that he can't just give up, he has to find the truth and solve all the mysteries.
In the quiet of the night, Ethan made a decision. He would first try to fall into a deep sleep, return to that world, and see if he could find a clue to everything. If that fails, he considers another pill to try to calm himself down in the real world.
Ethan took a deep breath, removed the deep sleep pill, put it in his mouth, and leaned back to swallow it. He closed his eyes and felt a rapid onset of drowsiness and fading consciousness.
"No matter what happens, I won't give up..." Ethan silently swears in a stupor and eventually falls into a deep sleep.
...
Ethan felt himself falling again into that familiar yet strange dream. When he opened his eyes, he found himself standing in an ancient and mysterious hall surrounded by strange puppets. The puppets were dressed in gorgeous costumes and had strange smiles on their faces, as if they were waiting for something.
The puppets sprang to life and began to dance strangely around Ethan. Their movements are elegant and coordinated, but every detail is eerie and uneasy. A puppet in a red dress walked up to Ethan, held out a wooden hand, and bowed slightly.
"Welcome to our world, Ethan." The Marionette's voice had a strange rhythm, as if every word were beating. "Do you want power and truth?"
Ethan frowned and felt a twinge of unease. He wasn't sure if he should trust the puppets, but he also knew he needed to find out.
"Why do you know my name?" Ethan asked tentatively.
The Marionettes looked at each other and then let out a low laugh. The puppet in the red dress spoke again: "We know a lot of things, Ethan. Including your confusion and struggle between two worlds."
"What the hell are you?" Ethan was even more confused, his eyes wandering among the strange puppets.
"We are the guardians here," said another blue-dressed puppet, whose voice was as steady as the sound of an ancient bell. "We are guardians of truth and we are guardians of power."
"Do you know the truth about both worlds?" Ethan's heart raced, and he felt himself getting closer to an answer.
The puppets laughed again, and the red-dressed puppet reached out a hand and touched Ethan lightly on the shoulder. "Yes, we know. But you must keep it a secret. You must not tell anyone you have seen us. '
Ethan hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded. "Yes, I promise."
Just as he was about to continue to ask for more truth, he suddenly felt a strong dizziness, and the scene began to blur. He tried to catch the puppets, but everything was gone in an instant.
Ethan suddenly opened his eyes and found himself lying in a warm room surrounded by familiar faces. Miss Carr was sitting by his bed with a concerned twinkle in her eyes.
"Ethan, you're awake." Mr. Carr's voice was warm and reassuring.
"Where am I, teacher?" Ethan struggled, his mind still filled with images of the puppets.
"You were in our camp, and we saved you." "You were badly hurt, but fortunately our pastor was able to treat you in time."
Ethan's eyes wandered around the room, finally settling on a middle-aged man in a white robe. It was the priest, his eyes shining with wisdom, and he was smiling at Ethan.
"Thank you, Pastor." Ethan said weakly, feeling relieved.
The priest nodded slightly, his voice gentle but strong, "It's my duty, Ethan." You need to rest and recover."
Ethan nodded, but his mind was filled with doubt. He knew he couldn't tell anyone about the puppet, but he also realized there might be something wrong with this priest. Ethan watched the priest quietly, trying to find out more.
"Teacher, can I ask you a question?" Ethan asked tentatively.
"Sure, Ethan. Ask any questions." Mr. Carr answered gently.
"The priest... Who is he?" Ethan asked cautiously, his eyes shining with inquiry.
Mr. Carr looked at the pastor, smiled, and said, "He's the most experienced therapist we have here. His name is Elder. He was always there when we needed it most."
Ethan nodded, still full of doubt. He knew he had to be vigilant and not let anyone find out what he suspected.
As night fell, Ethan lay in bed, thinking over the words of the puppets and the priest's performance. He knows that he must find the truth, solve the mystery of these two worlds, and also find out the true identity of the priest.
His thoughts were interrupted by the thought that he had not yet asked about Leah. The she-wolf Leah occupies an important place in his heart, and her safety directly affects Ethan's emotions.
"Teacher, how is Leah?" Ethan asked, a hint of urgency in his voice.
Miss Carr smiled and said reassuringly, "Leah is fine, she suffered some minor injuries, but she is already recovering." She's a tough fighter. You don't need to worry."
Upon hearing the news, Ethan breathed a sigh of relief, and a stone finally fell from his heart. He turned and continued, "Teacher, do you know where to find the truth about the world?"
Teacher Carl thought for a moment, then slowly said, "Ethan, the world is full of mysteries and unknowns, and many truths are hidden in ancient legends and relics. To find out, you need to visit people with ancient knowledge, such as other witches, alchemists, and legendary beings."
Ethan nodded, a plan forming in his mind. He knew he had to travel alone to find the people and clues who held the truth. He's afraid that if he moves with someone else, he'll hurt them, just like he hurt Elena.
"I see, teacher. I need to find these people alone and find out the truth." Ethan said firmly, determination twinkling in his eyes.
Mr. Carl was worried, but he knew Ethan was determined. "All right, Ethan, but remember, be careful on the road. Come back to us if you have any trouble."
Ethan nodded, a determined glint in his eyes. He says goodbye to Teacher Carl and the other companions and embarks on a journey to find the truth alone. Watching Ethan disappear from view, Carl is filled with mixed emotions, but he is confident that Ethan will find the answers he seeks.
As night fell, Reverend Elder returned to his tent. His body gradually relaxed, and he closed his eyes and fell asleep. In his dream, he entered a strange space filled with mysterious lights and strange puppets.
Elder was standing in a dream, looking around, when suddenly he saw the familiar puppets. They wear gorgeous costumes and have weird smiles on their faces, as if they are waiting for something.
"Why would you lie to Ethan about two worlds?" Elder asked puzzled, a hint of anger and confusion in his voice.
The Marionette in the red dress smiled softly, with an eerie twinkle in his eyes. "Elder, our plan must go ahead. Ethan is the key and he has to be steered in the right direction."
"But why leave him torn between two worlds?" Elder's brow furrowed, trying to understand the puppets' intentions.
Just then, a puppet in a black robe slowly came out. With a grim smile on his face, he was the sorcerer who had gone on the adventure with Teacher Carl.
"Elder, don't worry." The puppet in the black robe said, his voice deep and commanding, "I once secretly read Ethan's memories and found that he had great potential and unique abilities. If we can control him, he will give us endless pleasure."
Elder's face became complicated as he looked at the black-robed puppet with a gleam of doubt in his eyes. "Control Ethan? What do you want?"
"We are puppets. We like fun and games." The blue dress puppet interjected, excitement in his voice, "Ethan is a perfect toy, and his pain and struggle will make our games even more interesting."
The Marionette in the red dress nodded and added with a smile, "Yes, Elder. You have to remember that our goal is to fill the world with joy, and Ethan is an important part of that plan."
Elder's face darkened. He knew he had to follow the puppets' plan, but he was still full of conflict and unease. "So it was you who brought the witch to Ethan?"
The black-robed puppet nodded with a sneer, "Of course, we must test his potential and make sure he can play a part in our plans." The witch is just the beginning, and there are more trials to come."
The puppets laughed in unison, and their voices echoed through the dream with an eerie joy. Elder felt a chill, but he knew he could not defy the puppets' will and had to continue with their plan.
"Okay, I get it." Elder whispered, a flash of resignation and pain in his eyes.
"Very good, Elder." The Marionette in the red dress smiled and said, "Continue to follow our plan and everything will go according to plan." Ethan's pain and struggle will bring us endless joy."
Elder nodded, his mind filled with doubt, but he knew he had no choice. He took a deep breath, tried to calm himself down, and then slowly woke up from the dream.
