Fairy Tail: Kyoka Suigetsu

Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Scheme

Scheme

On our way to the commissioner, yes, our, because I'm not alone in taking this mission. I noticed someone was following me, and it turned out to be none other than Cana.

I could have chosen to use Kyoka Suigetsu on tricking her, but like I said before, I'm quite strict on myself when it comes to rules or completing a task.

Besides, she's not that stupid; someone must have asked her to tag along; perhaps it's the president.

I'm no less than Laxus; talk about pride. Not that I am completely aware of his story, but it's just a comparison. After all, those who understand understand.

Your accomplishments in life have been done by yourself, not because you are related to someone. No matter who they are, they don't have any right to disregard the efforts and hard work you put into doing things. You succeed because of yourself, and the blood that flows within your veins has nothing to do with it.

I know it's frustrating when you are good at something and genetics or family takes away the credit. But it's pointless to argue with idiots.

I remember in the plot Lucy once upon a time took a quest, and the client always tried to show off. Basically, they pretend to be rich and, when they were poor, just to look good in the eyes of other people. I more or less understand it; after all, in my previous life I was always getting discredited in my accomplishments.

I was desperate to prove something and have a good image, which actually played a major role in my downfall.

Ever since I joined Fairy Tail, I often think of things related to my past life. The reason is probably that I'm procrastinating things knowing that I can solve them easily. I didn't get decisive.

However, I'm doing things differently now. When I realized those things I considered threats were just trivial, as a person with pride, you couldn't help but be embarrassed and feel frustrated towards yourself.

That's just how the world works; if you don't take advantage of things, you will end up getting taken advantage of. Survival of the fittest... Growth starts not with physical actions but with mentality.

"Anyway, you cannot even use magic. Why did the president send you here? Your body is weak; you are weak! Too weak, not qualified at all! Even if it's merely chopping wood, the forest is also a dangerous environment. You are just a hindrance! Can you even lift an axe or pick up a twig? Probably not, no? Yes? Once we get to the station, go back!"

I didn't hold back in saying those harsh words even if other people look at me as if I'm trash. So what? What I did isn't even considered bullying; it's just me being realistic. Her actions of following me to do tasks, even if she is just following the president, how irresponsible can she be?

It's no different than stepping into a land mine! And this isn't me being overprotective; I'm just being practical. What I wanted is for her to understand that every action comes with responsibility.

She is too naive!

Cana just looked down at the floor while clenching her fist, although she wanted to retort, but she couldn't put the words out of her mouth. After all, what I stated is reasonable, although naive; she isn't that stupid.

Just when I think about doing certain things, she looks at me with resolve and says... "Uhm... The president told me I can learn magic from you..."

"..."

I don't know how to react to that; I didn't sever the bond of companions. In other words, I have no problem with a stranger becoming family, but forming a bond with family is a different story. Even without looking at the mirror, I could tell my expression. I looked like someone who chewed a whole lemon and was forced to swallow it.

Recalling the information about Cana, she uses cards as magic? Card magic certainly looks cool in a way, but only from a child's perspective. You might as well go collect Pokémon or summon things you get in the graveyard or just play Teks.

It's not like she uses nen-enhanced cards like Hisoka, which are very elegant, but it's merely a card that contains magic.

I sigh helplessly at myself...

"In order to learn magic, you must understand what magic is..." I started; she listened to me intently and looked at me with admiration. I'm not feeling good about it, but I'm quite dedicated when I'm doing a task.

Anyway, what I stated is simply what I understand and what is mentioned in the book. Even though I often travel, I still study some things. Knowledge is also power. While I'm teaching her, I still put some distance between us, making sure we are not close; I know things cannot work one-sided. I don't want Cana to be Naruto chasing after me in the name of friendship.

What I wanted was for her to be independent and completely forget my existence; if she is entangled with Gildarts and me, it's certainly not a good thing.

Why?

Gildarts is too strong, and I'm also strong! As for Cana? She is too weak.

Without a doubt it will become a shackle in her growth. So it's better to eliminate the sprout as early as possible.

Unknowingly, we arrive at the client's place. "I will say it now. In this commission, I'm in charge, and you will follow everything I said without a question."

She just nodded in approval, and I couldn't help but sigh. Despite being a D-rank mission, I still have a feeling things will turn upside down, and she will likely play a huge role in it. Better not to be optimistic.

Ding dong...

I rang the doorbell, and after a few minutes an elder lady came out. I remove the black gloves on my left hand and show her the black emblem of Fairy Tail.

"We are wizards from Fairy Tail and here to take a commission."

She takes a glance and smiles meaningfully. "Welcome! Have you eaten yet? Please head inside." She shows her hospitality, and I politely decline.

"Thank you for being generous, madam. But I'd like to tell you specifics of our mission."

'Specifics?'

Cana seems to be dumbfounded at my response. I didn't pay attention to her, though after all, I'm in charge!

Yes, specifics!

Just because the quest is wood gathering doesn't necessarily mean you will just collect twigs.

As far as I know, there's a correct tool for the job. You cannot use a hammer in plastering walls; after all, its purpose is for nails. Similarly, each wood has a different purpose. Some are used for cooking and warming up. There is also wood that is being used for signals, which generates lots of smoke. It's related to moisture, and some trees have more durability.

'This kid is quite smart...' The elder thought to herself.

"Well, the quest is simply gathering woods. You don't have to be picky when it comes to moisture; as for the size, it's the standard. But the tree must be this..." She tells us the specifics, and I couldn't help but chuckle in amusement.

'She knows that I know that she's up to something.' On our way to the forest, Cana followed me like a dog and asked.

"Why did you refuse the invitation of the elder? She is quite nice, though..."

"You are too naive..."

"Eh...?"

I sigh helplessly. 'Is this really my sister? Why is there so much difference? 'Well, things, it's a good lesson anyway; might as well explain it to her.

"Idiot, if you take a good look at her house, it's modern. Besides, its location is close to the city; basically, there's no reason for her to use firewood in cooking or warming up. You didn't even notice the way she dressed and the smell of the air."

"Smell...?" She pondered.

"Yes, it's a magic stone for everyday use." Certainly in the magical world, people who don't have magic powers still gain benefits through magic stones and several modern tools.

"If you think about it carefully, she doesn't have any reason to use wood. But when I asked for specifics, she told us to gather wood from a certain type of tree."

Cana looks at me in disbelief and says... "Which means..."

"Correct..." I pull out a map from my space and crosspoint at our location, then move towards another where a tree is located. "She is basically telling us something is going on here. Perhaps a dark guild or a beast."

"Then, is it necessary to use such a complicated method to ask for eliminating them?" She asked.

"Of course, there's a possibility that the elder was being watched, or perhaps she reported it before, but the council didn't take any action. There's also something else." If my guess is correct, she might also commission us to investigate a certain place. It's a C-rank level; I have a suspicion. "Wizards might have taken the commission and died."

Hearing me say things about death lightly, Cana shivers. She is afraid that something big might happen.

"What, having a cold feet and regretting your decision now? Haha..." I laughed at her, full of mockery. But to my surprise, she responds differently.

"No, I needed to become stronger to find someone."

'Oh boy, I know that look. It's the eye full of determination.' This is a good thing; if we encounter dark guilds, she needs a blood in her hand; otherwise...

'Hmm....' I interrupted my own thoughts and gestured to Cana to stop. I felt a presence of two humans nearby.

'Truly dark guild activity...' I immediately activate my Kyoka Suigetsu. The activation for Kyoka Suigetsu is for the victim to at least once take a look at me, but I put those with incredibly high perception into consideration, so if the target is within 15 meters, I can use Kyoka Suigetsu without meeting the condition. But the risk is if they got out of 15 meters, they will realize the effect of illusion magic, and I can only use illusion limited to vision. Upon my activation, I transform myself and Cana into rabbits, deliberately telling them our location.

Rustle!

Rustle!

"What's going on!?"

"Are the kids finally here!?"

'Kids?' I fell into deep thought. 'I see, so she is an associate...'

The two were immediately alert and rushed towards our location. Cana was in a state of panic and preferred to beat some dark guild member to death using her twig.

I shook my head helplessly at her behavior and gestured for her to calm down. What I did is only a partial hypnosis, which means it only affects the eyes.

"It's just a rabbit. Damn! Where are they?" He kicks the ground in frustration, which levitates the dust.
