Douluo Dalu 3: Purple-Gold Dragon God

Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Enhanced Physical Exam?

Xie Xie jumped up with excitement. With scores like this, they were basically guaranteed entry into Shrek Academy. He was about to bring glory to his ancestors!

They hadn't walked far when they entered another room, similar in size to the last, but here there were several platforms and many scattered objects.

Gu You immediately noticed the familiar sight of a forging table. Inside the room, an examiner sat behind a desk — and another familiar figure stood there as well. It was none other than Cai Yue'er, who had earlier swept away in her robes. Now, the elderly woman wore a gentle, kindly expression as she looked at them.

"Elder Cai, you…" Shen Yi was taken aback to see her here.

"For the fifth exam, they all get full marks."

Shen Yi froze on the spot. Was this really okay? Wouldn't it be unfair to the other examinees?

Tang Wulin was elated by the unexpected good fortune. 'Following Gu You really does bring luck.'

Shen Yi had no choice but to lead them away. Sixty years ago, Cai Yue'er had been a legend — young, beautiful, admired by many powerful figures. But back then, her personality had been somewhat eccentric and mischievous, causing chaos throughout the Soul Master world. Eventually, Shrek Academy had stepped in and brought her back, after which she disappeared from the public eye.

This, right now, was just one of her personality quirks resurfacing. But no one could question her — she was a pavilion elder of the Sea God's Pavilion, Shrek Academy's highest ruling body. In the outer court, her word was law.

With joyful hearts, they arrived at Shrek Academy's sixth test.

The sixth test was… strange. It was a food-eating challenge.

Yes, eating.

Next to them stood a signboard listing the corresponding point system.

In front of each person sat a huge tray, piled high with steamed buns stacked like a mountain!

The sign showed: eating fifteen buns in one sitting was a passing grade. Every additional five buns earned an extra point. And — they were not allowed to circulate spirit power for digestion; they had to rely entirely on their natural stomach capacity.

This test sounded ridiculous — only Shrek Academy would come up with something like this — but in fact, it tested willpower.

Eating that much was a challenge! For a normal fifteen-year-old, eating fifteen buns was an astronomical task. Without using spirit power to aid digestion, it was practically impossible. This required determination: when your stomach feels like it's going to burst, how do you force yourself to keep going? It wasn't just about physical limits — it was a mental battle. Of course, dedicated instructors were present to ensure no one hurt themselves. A Soul Master's body was far sturdier than a normal human's, so there was little danger of someone actually rupturing an organ, but the overwhelming fullness and discomfort were not something everyone could endure. That's why this test, seemingly easy, often left candidates in utter misery.

Xie Xie and Gu Yue's eyes immediately turned to Gu You.

After all, this was the guy who had become a schoolyard legend for winning food contests and forcing Tang Wulin into debt for two whole years — all just by eating.

Gu You waved a hand dismissively. Luckily, he hadn't eaten breakfast today. These buns might be low in calories, but with enough quantity, they were fine.

Three bites per bun — in just a few breaths, four buns were already gone.

The others watched leisurely as Gu You ate. Shen Yi's expression turned from mild surprise, to stiff astonishment, to complete numbness.

She was certain — he hadn't used any spirit power at all. Even the supervising instructor nearby was dumbfounded. In all his years of overseeing this test, he'd never seen anything like it.

"Time's up," the examiner called out, his voice trembling.

Full marks — again!

Shen Yi turned abruptly and strode away. She stumbled slightly from the force of her steps and waved a hand to signal them to follow.

The first test had assessed mental strength. The second had tested combat power. The third, though called a flexibility test, was really about courage. The fourth examined innate talent. The fifth evaluated their secondary profession. The sixth tested willpower.

Now came the seventh: endurance.

The endurance test didn't track precise times, but it had three components — a ten-kilometer run, one thousand fifty-kilogram squats, and one thousand pull-ups. Anyone who completed all three earned a passing score of six points. If you finished everything within an hour, you got full marks. For every extra ten minutes, you lost one point. But as long as you finished all three, you'd at least pass.

No matter what type of Soul Master you were, the three tasks were the same. Clearly, strength-type and physically dominant Soul Masters had an advantage.

You might think that was unfair — but in a real war, there was no fairness. Falling even half a step behind could mean your death. This was why Shrek Academy's acceptance rate was so low. Entering here was like stepping onto a battlefield. Fail, and you died.

They followed Shen Yi to the training grounds, where they discovered there were other examinees still taking the tests. Gu You found the whole setup amusing. 'Isn't this just a hyper-intensified version of a physical fitness exam?'

For ordinary people, it would be nearly impossible. Even many Soul Masters would struggle. But for Gu You? If he felt like entering any sports competition, not only would he take first place — he'd probably break federal records.

The test might seem unfair to Xu Xiaoyan and Gu Yue, but honestly, it didn't matter. They only needed sixty points to pass overall. As long as the boys succeeded here, the group would pass.

Sure enough, Gu You completed everything in just over forty minutes, without even breaking a sweat.

After resting and adjusting, Xie Xie was still sore and exhausted, while Tang Wulin was completely fine. As for Xu Xiaoyan and Gu Yue, who had only run the ten kilometers, they were doing alright too. With some recovery, they were back in peak condition.

Next came the eighth test.

"The eighth test is a comprehensive combat exam," Shen Yi explained casually. "Each of you will face a Shrek Academy student from the previous intake. Their abilities will be randomly drawn, so yes — luck is part of your strength. If you can last ten minutes in battle, you pass. If you defeat your opponent, you get full marks. Scores between six and ten will depend on your performance."

She sounded lazy and relaxed. Honestly, based on their current scores, they had already easily passed Shrek's entrance exams. But rules were rules — they still had to go through the motions.

"Yes, ma'am."

They entered a massive circular chamber, far larger than the previous test arenas.

And there, at first glance, they saw…
