Douluo Dalu 3: Purple-Gold Dragon God

Chapter 110: Chapter 110: The End of the Road

"You have one minute to prepare. When I say start, you must get through this section. Finish within thirty seconds and you score six points. For every three seconds faster, you gain one extra point; every three seconds slower, you lose one point. I'll only give you two warnings. First, the closer you get, the faster the guillotine blades will fall — and these are real blades. If you get hit, that's on you. Second, this section's score can go into the negatives. If anyone fails to pass, no matter how much of a genius you are, you'll be disqualified. Even you, Gu You." Shen Yi's sharp eyes swept over him. 'Let's see how you handle this when it's not just about yourself.'

"If I get hit by one of those, will I even feel it before I die?" Xie Xie asked nervously, staring at the rows upon rows of massive blades. Facing one was bad enough, but this… it looked endless.

"Blades, drop!" Shen Yi's hand slid down sharply. The minute was over — this was the most unforgiving kind of test.

Clang!

The first blade fell hard, slamming into the groove below with sparks flying, then lifted again, ready to strike once more. The metallic crash echoed repeatedly.

"Follow me."

Gu You raised his dragon claw calmly and strode forward without hesitation. The test never said they couldn't use their martial spirits — wasn't this simple? From the look Shen Yi gave earlier, he'd thought there was some real difficulty here, like they wouldn't be allowed to use spirit abilities.

"Ten, nine, eight…" Shen Yi began to count quietly.

One of the massive blades came slicing toward Gu You. Without flinching, he raised his claw and casually pinched — crack! The blade shattered.

Shen Yi's fingers twitched involuntarily. 'That blade weighed over three thousand jin!'

Seeing this, Xie Xie and the others let go of their fear, and Xu Xiaoyan's pale face regained some color.

Shen Yi was silent. 'So this is what it means to have true strength.' She quietly resented her own martial spirit, the Shy Grass — apart from being good for support and looking pretty, what use was it, really?

For many students, they might have had the strength to dash through these gates, but the sheer terror of facing the blades caused most to break down mentally. That was why so many got eliminated.

Gu You was only thirteen years old, but no one knew what he had gone through. They only knew that, in his eyes, this level of danger was nothing — barely even a minor breeze.

Naturally, the entire group scored full marks.

They returned to the building, walking down a corridor, climbing again — this time reaching the second floor of the main teaching building. Here, the decor changed. The murals were gone, the walls turned pure white, and the ceiling was covered with strange yellow-lined diagrams.

"Are these… soul tool design diagrams?" Xu Xiaoyan said in surprise. She had chosen the mecha design track, and the foundation of mecha design was soul tool design.

Shen Yi led them into a large hall. Seated at the center of a long table was a familiar figure: Cai Yue'er.

"It's you! I didn't expect that after three years apart, we'd meet again in a place like this. Truly fated. Although these are your friends, Gu You, there will still be specialized tests — you don't have any objections, right?" Cai Yue'er smiled gently as she looked at Gu You. Ordinary Soul Douluo might not have noticed Gu You sneaking into Shrek Academy, but how could the pavilion elders not know? They simply chose to turn a blind eye — after all, they were old acquaintances.

"No objections." Gu You shook his head. Cai Yue'er looked noticeably older, now walking with a cane, her steps a bit unsteady, completely concealing her Super Douluo-level cultivation. Two middle-aged men supported her as she took her seat at the central table.

"Little Yi, have them begin," Cai Yue'er said in her raspy voice.

"Yes, Elder Cai." Shen Yi showed no dissatisfaction at being called "Little Yi."

"Zhuo Shi finally did something good — extending the exam time just for these few little ones. It seems to have been worth it. You, little girl, you don't even need to take the rest of the exam. Go straight to the inner court. Six-element control… even I'm a little excited. This will surely make history, even if it's not ultimate element control." Cai Yue'er's sharp eyes swept over Gu Yue.

Gu Yue's gaze lowered slightly. She glanced back at Gu You. Cai Yue'er chuckled softly at the girl's reaction. "He's already an inner court student. This won't affect any of you."

"What…" Gu You's eye twitched slightly. 'What is this old woman saying?'

"What!" Xie Xie jumped up in shock. "Gu You was from Shrek Academy from the very start?"

Now it all made sense. No wonder! He couldn't think of any other explanation for Gu You's terrifying talent.

What they didn't know was that Gu You had never taken any spirit power-enhancing potions. Even when he had consumed wild immortal herbs, they had no side effects. Only once, when he forcefully broke through to absorb the Ice Emperor Scorpion, did he need help — but the lingering effects had been offset by the power of the Dragon God's inheritance.

Gu You actually wouldn't have minded using such potions, but no one ever gave them to him or allowed it.

"Little girl, would you like to be my disciple?" Cai Yue'er asked Gu Yue again with a gentle smile.

Gu Yue paused for a moment, then shook her head firmly. "I can study in the inner court, but I already have a teacher."

Cai Yue'er was slightly displeased, but since the girl already had a proper master, she had no reason to insist.

"Child… come home more often…" Cai Yue'er murmured softly to Gu You as she prepared to leave.

Gu You clenched his fists, lost in thought. 'Do I even have a home? Was I destined to have a home from the start? But… maybe I do. Teachers… Yun Ming… Are they truly real? I can't figure it out. Was my crossing over just a coincidence? Was my success just a coincidence? Perhaps none of this is something I can understand now. Maybe only at the very end, when all the dust has settled, will I find the real answer.'

Beside him, Xie Xie and Xu Xiaoyan exchanged knowing looks, their expressions turning slightly odd as they glanced between Gu You and Gu Yue.

Without saying anything, Gu You followed Shen Yi deeper into the teaching building.

"The fifth test is talent assessment. In other words, we'll test your secondary profession," Shen Yi explained as she turned her head slightly.

"Shen-laoshi, what was our score for the fourth test?" Xie Xie whispered, a bit eager. He felt he had done pretty well.

"Full marks. All of you got full marks!" Shen Yi snapped, glaring at him. She was in a foul mood after being interrupted by a student.

"Yes!" Xie Xie clenched his fists in delight.
