Chapter 181: Chapter 179: A Family of Three
When the Auspicious Beast disguised herself as a pitiful, lonely little girl—though truthfully, even without the disguise, after traveling thousands of miles in rough clothes, this was already her natural state—she finally found the person she had been looking for.
Earlier, when she spotted Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen walking hand in hand, the Auspicious Beast had been observing from a hidden spot, eyes wide as she stared. That blue-haired, blue-eyed human boy… was he the life envoy she was searching for?
And the white-haired, red-eyed beautiful woman beside him, holding his hand so intimately… was that his mate?
When she saw that scene, the annoyance in her heart intensified. 'So that's why I couldn't find you all this time? You went off to sea with your partner to have fun together?!'
Her desire to mess with Huo Yuhao only grew stronger. So, she chose to appear before the couple in the form of a flawless, unblemished, utterly helpless little girl.
And she didn't bet wrong. Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen weren't heartless people. When they saw such a small, pitiful-looking child, they immediately stepped forward.
As Huo Yuhao approached, the Auspicious Beast fought back the urge to laugh, keeping her face fixed in that perfectly vulnerable, confused expression.
"Little girl, are your parents not with you?"
When the two squatted down in front of her, Meng Hongchen spoke first, her eyes full of concern.
The Auspicious Beast "flinched in fear" and quickly backed away a few steps, her body stiff. Her voice trembled as she replied timidly, "You… who are you?"
Seeing such caution and fear from a child who should still be carefree, both Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen felt a pang of sadness. Coupled with her ragged appearance, it was easy to imagine her as a child who had suffered a hard life.
"Don't be afraid, little one. Big brother and big sister here are not bad people. Can you tell us why you're all alone? We're worried about your safety. If it's alright, we can take you home."
Huo Yuhao spoke softly, sending a gentle stream of spiritual energy toward the green-haired girl to help soothe her.
Of course, for the Auspicious Beast—whose mental strength was exceptionally powerful and currently calm—such soothing had little effect. But sensing the vast, all-encompassing nature of Huo Yuhao's spiritual energy still shocked her. 'So this human envoy of life… he's also a master of spiritual power?'
She didn't dwell on it too long and instead timidly responded again.
"I don't have a home… I never did..."
This time, her voice quivered with a hint of tears. Watching her, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen were utterly heartbroken. Meng Hongchen quickly stepped forward, gently patting her head and trying to scoop her into a hug.
At first, the Auspicious Beast resisted, partly to stay in character and partly because she wasn't too fond of this woman clinging to the life envoy.
But for the sake of her act, she let herself be pulled in with slight reluctance. In Meng Hongchen's warm embrace, the Auspicious Beast "gradually let down her guard" and began to softly sob.
"You poor child..."
Huo Yuhao sighed with emotion. A homeless child like this was, sadly, not rare in a world still steeped in feudal traditions.
Up until this point, neither he nor Meng Hongchen had noticed anything unusual.
After a while, once the Auspicious Beast had "cried her fill," Meng Hongchen gently let go and wiped her tears with a handkerchief.
"If you don't have a home to return to, would you like to stay with big brother and big sister for a while?"
As she spoke, Meng Hongchen looked over at Huo Yuhao with an expression that clearly said We're taking this poor child with us. Huo Yuhao, naturally, had no objections and nodded in agreement.
The Auspicious Beast nodded shyly on the surface—but inside, she was grinning. 'Step one… complete!'
"Here, hold our hands, alright?"
Both Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen extended a hand toward her. The Auspicious Beast looked between the two for a moment, then grasped both.
And so, a trio of figures—blue, green, and white—walked hand in hand toward the Sunrise Hotel. From afar, they really did look like a small family of three.
Feeling the warmth from their hands and being treated like a child wasn't so bad, the Auspicious Beast thought. After all, she was still a child herself—even if she had lived over ten thousand years.
"Wow… it's amazing!"
As they entered the elegantly decorated interior of the Sunrise Hotel, the Auspicious Beast couldn't help but gasp, her small mouth wide open in awe.
She had given herself the background of a wandering girl, abandoned since childhood and forced to live a rough life on her own. So now, her wonder at this luxurious place seemed perfectly in character.
Truth be told, she didn't even need to act. This was genuinely her first time in such a fancy human place. After traveling thousands of miles through wind and rain, her current situation truly matched the story she had made up.
Seeing her wide-eyed expression, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen exchanged a glance and chuckled quietly. Then, with great enthusiasm, they began showing her around the hotel like tour guides.
After a brief tour, they brought her up to the room they had booked—the imperial suite.
The moment she stepped into the room, the Auspicious Beast's brain short-circuited. The grand bed. The gold-trimmed furniture. Everything was so soft, so lavish, so... human.
Recalling her millennia of survival in the harsh conditions of the Great Star Dou Forest, the Auspicious Beast couldn't help but feel a bit stunned. 'The life I had there was way too rough. Humans really do know how to live in comfort.'
"Bed..."
Her gaze locked on the giant, round, plush bed. She wanted to dive onto it immediately.
Hearing her whisper, Meng Hongchen smiled and guided her over, helping her sit down on the incredibly soft mattress—apparently designed to royal standards. Compared to sleeping on dry grass or bare ground in the wilderness, this was a revelation.
Tears welled up in the Auspicious Beast's eyes.
This time, she wasn't acting. The tears were real. 'Why didn't I experience this kind of life sooner?'
Of course, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen had no idea what she was actually thinking. They just assumed she was feeling emotional again and quickly comforted her together.
Not because she was sad—but because she was moved—the Auspicious Beast soon wiped her tears away.
