Chapter 180: Chapter 178: Encounter with the Auspicious Beast
"Why did he go out to sea..."
The Auspicious Beast stood at the edge of the southern coastline, staring out over the vast ocean with a hint of annoyance in her voice. She still remembered how, when she sensed the aura of another sister of life—her human envoy—moving southward, she had dashed after it in a flurry of sparks and determination.
But even after reaching the southernmost point of the continent, she still felt that presence… further south.
Into the sea?
Pouting, the Auspicious Beast huffed and gave the sand a frustrated little stomp—though "little" might be an understatement. Her foot sank a few dozen centimeters deep into the beach.
She pulled her foot out, plopped down onto the sand with a heavy sigh, and then rolled onto her back. If not for the beautiful, vast, and utterly new ocean that stretched before her, she would've thrown a tantrum by now. She had traveled nearly ten thousand li chasing that aura.
"Hmph! I'll just wait here."
With her hands folded beneath her head, she lay on the beach, gazing up at the open sky. 'That human life envoy… he probably hasn't sensed me, has he?'
A mischievous smirk curved her lips.
'Good. That means I get to have some fun.'
Meanwhile, back on the Sun Moon, Huo Yuhao suddenly shivered. 'Weird… Did someone just think about me?'
In truth, the connection between Huo Yuhao and the Auspicious Beast was currently one-way. She could sense his location, but he had no idea where she was.
Shaking off the chill, Huo Yuhao's mind wandered back to last night's "sparring aftermath" with Meng Hongchen—specifically, his miserable experience.
At first, he had thought it wasn't a big deal. Lying on the bed and letting Senior Meng pose him however she wanted? Sounded like a reward, honestly.
But he had seriously underestimated her capacity for mischief.
She had tickled him, pinched his cheeks, ruffled his hair like he was a puppy—and worst of all, she'd used her cold poison to "play" with him.
Sure, the cold poison couldn't actually harm someone with the Ultimate Ice martial soul. But that didn't mean it had no effect. When infused into his body, it created an odd tingly-numb sensation with a faint, irritating sting. And Meng Hongchen, of course, had remembered him mentioning it once before.
So all night long, muffled sounds of confusion and anguish echoed from their room below deck—enough to make any passerby's imagination run wild.
Just remembering that little devil's grin as she tormented him sent another chill through his spine.
'Senior really is... Senior.'
All in all, the rest of the voyage passed smoothly. To stave off boredom, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen occasionally fished off the deck or sparred again—purely for fun.
At last, on the tenth day since setting sail, the outline of Sunrise City appeared on the horizon.
The moment it came into view, a roar of celebration erupted aboard the Sun Moon. After everything they had been through, every soul on the ship was beyond thrilled to return home safely.
"Thank you both again. Little Huo, Little Meng—safe travels. Please give my regards to Elder Hongchen. And Little Huo, I look forward to the naval reforms ahead. When the time comes, I, Shi Dongsheng, will fully support you."
As the ship docked in Sunrise City, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen said their farewells to Captain Shi Dongsheng.
Huo Yuhao was more than satisfied with the results of this trip. Meng Hongchen had gained an unexpectedly powerful soul spirit—the princess of the Devil Soul Great White Sharks. He had obtained an eye-ring soul bone that greatly helped him with mastering both of his martial souls. Not to mention the other soul bones, rare herbs, and treasures they had collected along the way.
It had been a bountiful journey.
Even more exciting was the progress made with the naval fleet's restructuring. And now, he could even expect backing from a general of the imperial navy.
That meant the modernization of the Sun Moon Empire's sea, land, and air forces—modeled around soul tool sealing bottles—was only a matter of time, especially once Xu Tiannan rose to power.
Thinking of that, Huo Yuhao's lips curled into a cold smile. 'The educational reforms in central Mingdu must have already begun. Some clowns are probably getting nervous already. Once they jump out… we'll bring them down in one sweep. That'll clear the way for Xu Tiannan's rise.'
Still, to be sure of things, he needed to return to Mingdu and speak with Jing Hongchen to follow up on the latest progress.
As he and Meng Hongchen strolled through Sunrise City, neither of them felt any urgency to return right away. They hadn't gotten the chance to explore this beautiful coastal city properly before. Now was the perfect opportunity.
"Let's get a hotel room."
"Mm."
Hand in hand, the two walked casually down the main street. At some point, neither of them could remember exactly when, it had simply become natural to share a room.
But then, just as they were about to reach the Sunrise Hotel, they noticed a figure that made them stop in their tracks.
On the side of the road stood a little girl with a confused, almost tearful expression. She had long, emerald-green hair that shimmered in the light, and equally vivid green eyes that looked like flawless gemstones. Her face was doll-like, delicate and beautiful, but her clothes were rough and simple—made of coarse linen—and her fair skin was smudged with a bit of dirt. Everything about her seemed fragile and pitiable.
"Wow, Yuhao, look. That little girl's so pretty… but she looks really sad. Where are her parents?"
Huo Yuhao focused his gaze on the girl, frowning slightly. There was something about her—an odd sense of familiarity.
But he didn't dwell on it. Right now, her strange appearance and helpless aura were far more striking.
"Let's go check on her. She might've gotten separated from her family. A child like her could easily attract the wrong kind of attention—it's dangerous."
So the two of them walked over to the green-haired girl, who looked so pitiful and alone.
What they didn't know, however, was that this girl—who appeared so delicate and lost—was actually a six-ring Soul Emperor-level being.
And what was she doing here?
The moment the Auspicious Beast sensed that her human envoy was approaching Sunrise City, she rushed ahead and staged this whole scene—posing as a lost little girl just to get his attention.
