Douluo Dalu 2: Sun-Moon Glory

Chapter 178: Chapter 176: The Meng-Huo Duel

Meng Hongchen was well aware that Huo Yuhao possessed a compact humanoid soul tool—essentially a mecha. That piece of equipment wasn't just for show; it could dramatically boost his combat ability, enough to rival opponents far stronger than himself. From her perspective, claiming it raised his power by more than a full tier wasn't an exaggeration in the slightest.

Even so, Meng Hongchen couldn't help flashing him a playful yet skeptical grin as she raised a brow at him. "Hmph, if you want to use it, go right ahead, Little Yuhao. But judging by that confident look of yours… don't tell me you actually believe you can beat your wonderful senior sister, who's not only three years older but also three soul ranks stronger?"

Huo Yuhao answered with a calm, measured smile. "Whether I can or not, we won't know until we try, right? Senior Meng, how about this—let's keep it friendly but go all out. No holding back. Whoever's soul power gives out first loses. How does that sound?"

Meng Hongchen gave a haughty nod of approval, clearly enjoying the challenge. The two of them then took some distance from each other, placing themselves about a hundred meters apart on the vast icy expanse Huo Yuhao had formed earlier.

"Snow Empress, would you mind serving as our referee?"

Huo Yuhao asked mentally within his spiritual sea. A cool, gentle voice responded affirmatively.

In the next moment, a glowing figure of pristine white emerged above the icy battlefield—a delicate-looking girl with an ethereal presence. The moment Meng Hongchen spotted her, her eyes practically lit up with hearts.

"Big Sis Snow Empress!" she called out joyfully.

Snow Empress turned her gaze toward Meng Hongchen, giving her a small nod and smile before gently descending between the two competitors. Looking down at the surface of the ice Huo Yuhao had conjured, she paused in thought. Then, lifting a single slender finger, she pointed at the ground beneath them.

In an instant, a wave of extreme cold burst out from her position, rapidly reinforcing the ice and thickening it tenfold. What had been a sturdy battlefield was now like tempered steel—frozen solid by the power of a Limit Douluo.

Huo Yuhao could immediately feel the difference beneath his feet. 'As expected from the Queen of Ice… her control is unreal. This ice is tougher than war-forged soul steel.'

"You two may prepare yourselves," Snow Empress said with the detached elegance of a supreme referee. "I shall oversee your match."

Meng Hongchen's fighting spirit soared. Before her idol and role model, she had no intention of holding back. She gave Huo Yuhao a bold and fiery look, full of unspoken challenge.

Huo Yuhao responded with a helpless shrug before raising his arms and shifting into a battle-ready stance.

Seeing that they were both set, Snow Empress nodded and announced in a clear, steady voice, "Three. Two. One—commence."

The instant she finished speaking, Huo Yuhao activated his Ultimate Ice Armor.

Within the blink of an eye, deep blue plates of soul metal surged around him and locked into place, enveloping his figure in a sleek, humanoid mecha. Made from Extreme North Ice Crystal and Profound Ice Marrow alloy, this armor, powered by his Ultimate Ice, exuded a terrifying chill that shimmered in the form of a cold blue light. Anyone who gazed directly at it would feel a cold that penetrated flesh and bone—as if it could freeze the soul itself.

Meng Hongchen's expression grew focused and serious. She knew better than to underestimate Huo Yuhao. Her strongest trump card—her cold poison—would be useless against his ice-type martial soul. While it might sound outrageous that someone three soul ranks below her could pose a threat, this was Huo Yuhao they were talking about. If anyone could do it, it was him.

Her six soul rings rose in sequence, glowing in the standard configuration of yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black. Then, with fluid motion, she summoned her form-fitting battle armor—a sleek suit that shimmered with pale blue veins of energy.

Without warning, she dashed forward, her soul rings lighting up one after another. 'She's going for an all-out blitz,' Huo Yuhao thought, eyes narrowing inside the armor. 'Trying to end it before I get a chance to counter.'

The technique she used—Ice Refraction—allowed her to flicker and vanish from sight, moving like a phantom across the battlefield. Even with Huo Yuhao's spiritual detection field activated, it was hard to keep track of her shifting form.

She activated her fourth soul skill, Ice Feedback, to boost her strength, followed immediately by her strongest offensive move: the Icefire Poison Dragon Drill.

Against Huo Yuhao, Meng Hongchen didn't want to rely on soul tools or drag things out in a battle of attrition. She knew that wouldn't work. Her best chance lay in using her deadliest attack from the outset and finishing the duel in one decisive strike.

Seeing her third, fourth, and fifth rings shine in tandem, and her figure approaching with frightening speed, Huo Yuhao steeled himself. 'If that hits me directly, it'll definitely break through the soul tool barrier, possibly damage the armor… and hurt me. I need to dodge.'

But just as he tried to shift the armor's posture, her sixth soul ring lit up.

Her eyes turned a deep, penetrating blue. In the next instant, two beams of concentrated spiritual energy—Deep Blue Gaze—fired from her eyes and struck his armor dead-on.

The rays ignored his armor's defensive shielding and penetrated straight into his mind. Huo Yuhao instinctively avoided locking eyes, but the gaze had already hit its mark.

This was no elemental attack. It was a spiritual strike—something closer to a soul shock. Without a spiritual barrier, there was no defense.

And though Huo Yuhao's spiritual power was among the strongest of his generation, even he felt his consciousness stall for a brief second.

But that second was enough.

Meng Hongchen's lips curled into a victorious smile. Her Icefire Poison Dragon Drill had already shattered the mecha's defensive barrier and was roaring toward him.

Inside the armor, Huo Yuhao's eyes sharpened. 'No way to dodge now. I have to block it. But can I…?'

The answer was no.

A Soul Emperor's full-power attack wasn't something you could take head-on unless you had absolute defensive superiority. If he let it land, both he and his Ultimate Ice Armor would be severely damaged.

Worse, this was just one of Meng Hongchen's many techniques.

He exhaled, syncing his thoughts completely with the armor. Right now, the mecha was an extension of his own body.

His soul rings flared to life—not the platinum-white and black rings of his Spirit Eyes, but those of his second martial soul.

A blinding sequence of red, orange-gold, and another orange-gold ring lit up with terrifying majesty.

Even as danger approached, Huo Yuhao's true power surged to life.
