Chapter 177: Chapter 175: Meng Hongchen’s Sixth Soul Skill
After a simple breakfast, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen went up to the deck to relax.
The Sun Moon had already left the dangerous waters behind and was now sailing through a much more stable region, where the sun shone high above year-round. As they walked across the deck, Huo Yuhao could feel the warmth of the gentle sun on his skin, accompanied by a salty sea breeze drifting through the air.
At this time of year—early spring in the south—the sunlight was pleasant and comfortable. But once summer arrived, the scorching heat would become hard to bear, even for soul masters. No wonder the soldiers stationed long-term on the Sun Moon generally had dark, tanned skin.
Toward the far end of the deck, a group of soldiers were joyfully divvying up the loot from the sea soul beasts, assigning rewards based on each soldier's contribution. That probably explained why everyone Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen passed by had such radiant, cheerful smiles.
Since most of the crew had come up to the deck and the soul engineers responsible for powering the propulsion soul tools below were on break, the ship's forward speed had noticeably slowed.
"This is the perfect moment, Senior Meng. How about I take you outside the ship so you can show me your sixth soul skill?"
Huo Yuhao squeezed her hand gently, turned to her, and saw her laughing uncontrollably.
"Hehehe, Yuhao, you're just dying to see what my sixth ring can do, aren't you? Well, I'm pretty proud of it! Since you're so eager, I'll generously let you witness how amazing I am."
Huo Yuhao shrugged with a wry smile and activated his flight-type soul tool. Meng Hongchen followed suit, and the two leapt lightly into the air, flying toward the opposite side of the ship where there were fewer soldiers, and quickly left the deck.
They lowered their altitude over the open sea. Huo Yuhao closed his eyes for a brief moment, then opened them again—now glowing faintly. If one looked closely, they would see the gleaming crystal-blue ring encircling his eyes—the manifestation of the Eye Ring—which gave his gaze a dazzling brilliance.
A deep blue light flickered in his pupils. He raised a finger and pointed toward a distant spot on the ocean. In the next instant, a massive area of the sea surface rapidly froze, forming a thick layer of ice centered where he had pointed.
This was the effect of his Ultimate Ice domain. With the amplification from the Eye Ring, the coverage area of his domain had increased by another ten percent.
Meng Hongchen gave him a big thumbs-up, then pulled him down to land together on the newly formed ice. Huo Yuhao let go of her hand, took a few steps to the side, and made a "please begin" gesture. "Senior, go ahead. Show me."
Meng Hongchen nodded, her expression turning serious. Her soul rings—yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black—rose around her, a textbook-perfect configuration.
Then, her sixth ring—the jet-black one—lit up.
In that moment, her ruby eyes shifted to a chilling deep blue, like the color of the coldest glacial ice buried beneath the Far North.
Suddenly, two beams of deep blue light shot out from her eyes. The speed was so fast that even with spiritual detection active, Huo Yuhao had a hard time tracking or reacting to it. Thankfully, the attack wasn't aimed at him.
Even more strange—within the beams appeared a pair of piercing, icy-blue eyes. These eyes seemed capable of freezing everything they saw.
And they did.
The moment Huo Yuhao saw them, he felt his mind, body, and even soul slow down, like he had been briefly frozen. His expression changed slightly. 'Even I, with an Ultimate Ice martial soul, felt affected… What about others? Soul masters without ice attributes might not even be able to resist it.'
The beams traveled several kilometers before gradually fading. The deep blue eyes vanished, and Meng Hongchen opened her eyes again. She let out a long breath, her gaze returning to its original ruby-red brilliance.
"Well? What do you think, Yuhao? Cool, right?"
Huo Yuhao nodded, visibly impressed. "Absolutely. Especially those eerie, frozen eyes. Just one glance felt like it could freeze your soul. I'm guessing this is a dual-attribute soul skill—spiritual and ice. But what exactly do those beams do?"
Meng Hongchen cleared her throat, dismissed her rings, and walked back to his side. "The deep blue beams? If they hit an enemy, they can paralyze anyone up to two levels above my cultivation for at least three seconds. On top of that, they carry my ice-attributed soul power—which means I can infuse my freezing poison into them. If it hits, the enemy gets poisoned. But… the soul power cost isn't light. That shot alone drained ten percent of my energy."
Huo Yuhao's eyes widened. Not only was the skill excellent for crowd control and single-target suppression, but combined with Meng Hongchen's natural cold poison, it became a powerful offense-control hybrid.
"Very impressive. That soul skill really caught me off guard, Senior. Have you thought of a name for it?"
"Hehe, I've had one in mind for a while now. I call it 'Deep Blue Gaze.' What do you think?"
"Deep Blue Gaze, huh? That's a great name."
Huo Yuhao nodded approvingly. "Since we've both gained some new powers… and the Sun Moon hasn't traveled far yet, how about a little sparring match right here on the ice?"
Hearing this, Meng Hongchen burst out laughing. "A duel? Yuhao, you're not even a Soul Ancestor yet. I'm already a Soul Emperor. That's a three-rank gap. How are you planning to fight me?"
Huo Yuhao nodded. It was true. No matter how talented he was, a soul master couldn't easily leap across three ranks in raw power. Victory was unlikely.
But no one ever said he had to rely solely on soul master abilities. This wasn't the old-fashioned Douluo Three Kingdoms or Shrek Academy with their rigid traditions.
"True, Senior. That's why… I'll be using a mecha."
Huo Yuhao grinned with anticipation. With his Ice Ultimate Armor—capable of functioning as both a battle armor and a mecha—his combat power would increase by at least a full tier. With that boost, the outcome of their match might not be so clear-cut.
