Chapter 50: 48: Legendary Swing
As Shiro approached the vendor, his every step was purposeful, his mind sharp with cold fury. The anger simmered within him, not just for the injustice Naruto had suffered, but for the greater hypocrisy of the village. He walked up to the gruff-looking shopkeeper who had just shoved the boy away.
The vendor looked up at Shiro, eyeing him with a suspicious glare. "What do you want, Kid?"
Shiro's expression was hard, unreadable, as he stared down at the man. He didn't care for the vendor's demeanor, nor did he care for the weak glint of fear he saw flicker in the man's eyes. The time for talk was over. He knew, deep down, that nothing would change in Konoha until someone acted decisively—until someone broke the cycle of cruelty.
"You're a coward," Shiro said coldly, his voice a dangerous, biting whisper. "A weak, pathetic coward who lets children suffer for things they never did. You act all high and mighty, but you're just another parasite feeding off the pain of others."
The vendor sneered, his eyes narrowing in disbelief at the audacity of the stranger before him. "What do you know about—"
But before he could finish, Shiro's fist, charged with an overwhelming surge of reiatsu, crashed into the vendor's face. The impact was nothing short of brutal.
The vendor was sent flying backward, his head snapping back with a sickening crack. The man's body collided with the wooden stall behind him, shattering the structure. Shiro's punch was so powerful that it sent a shockwave through the surrounding area, knocking several objects off nearby tables. The vendor's face was a twisted mess of blood and broken bones as he crumpled to the ground, his body twitching, unable to move.
Shiro stood over him, looking down at the man with cold indifference. "Now you know what it feels like... to be truly powerless. Don't ever lay a hand on that child again."
He turned away without a second glance, leaving the wreckage behind. The villagers nearby had scattered, their fearful whispers filling the air, but Shiro paid them no mind. His focus was on Naruto.
Shiro walked in the direction where he saw Naruto running earlier. The streets were eerily quiet as he moved through the village, every step filled with the weight of unspoken thoughts. After covering a distance of about 500 meters, Shiro stopped and activated his Sharingan. His eyes scanned the surroundings, the crimson color of his eyes reflecting the intensity of his focus. There, he saw Naruto—a small figure on a swing, gently swaying under the shade of a large tree branch, directly across from the ninja academy.
But as Shiro observed him closely, he noticed something troubling. Naruto had his head lowered, and though the breeze swayed the leaves and stirred the branches, it couldn't hide the fact that Naruto was likely trying to hide his tears. His usual mischievous smile was absent, replaced by the hollow silence of someone overwhelmed.
Shiro felt a pang of sympathy, but he tried to push it aside. He reached out with his senses, attempting to locate any ANBU lurking in the shadows, watching over Naruto as they were supposed to. But to his surprise, he felt nothing. No hidden figures, no shadowy presences. It was as though the ANBU had abandoned their duties.
Shiro couldn't decide whether to be disappointed or relieved. The fact that the ANBU weren't doing their job irritated him, but it also gave him a rare opportunity to be alone with Naruto—a chance to help him, even if only in some small way.
The memories of his own sleepless nights resurfaced. The pain of his father's death had been unbearable, a weight he carried day after day. But there had been one thing that helped him through the darkness. It wasn't a person, but a world—Naruto's world. The anime had been his escape, the one thing that allowed him to forget his pain, even if only for a moment. It had been the one thing that kept him going when all else seemed lost.
Shiro was a huge fan of both Naruto and Bleach, but there was something about Naruto that resonated with him more deeply. He had even watched Boruto, despite his friend Akio constantly telling him it was a waste of time. But Shiro couldn't help it. Naruto's story had given him solace in a time when nothing else could.
With a faint smile, Shiro deactivated his Sharingan. He then vanished in a flash of speed, using his Shunpo to cover the distance between himself and Naruto's swing in mere moments.
However, before Shiro could speak, he heard Naruto's voice. It was a childish, gruff tone, filled with both annoyance and vulnerability. "Leave me alone," Naruto said, his voice tinged with bitterness. "If you want to insult me, get in line."
Shiro's smile remained unshaken. Naruto was probably a sensor ninja or had heightened senses due to the Kyuubi's chakra. Either way, he had noticed Shiro's presence.
"I have no interest in offending you," Shiro replied calmly. "In fact, you can say I'm your friend."
Naruto slowly raised his head and met Shiro's gaze, his eyes red from crying. The sight of those vulnerable eyes made Shiro's heart ache. "I don't believe you," Naruto said, his voice cracking with disbelief. "Is this some new way to embarrass me? Make me think you're my friend and then mock me?"
Shiro shook his head. "I'm not interested in such things. In fact, this is the second time in my life that I've been in this village, and I'm surprised the villagers would treat a child like this." He paused, considering Naruto's sorrowful expression before continuing. "How about I treat you to some ramen? What do you say?"
Naruto scoffed, clearly skeptical. "Pfft, like I trust you." But then, as if to contradict his own words, a loud growl emanated from his stomach, and Naruto's face turned bright red.
Shiro chuckled lightly. "You say no, but your stomach says yes."
He extended his hand to Naruto, who hesitated for a moment before taking it.
Shiro scratched the back of his head. "Can you take me somewhere that serves ramen? Like I said, I'm pretty new here."
Naruto's eyes lit up, his mood suddenly brightening. "I'll take you to the shop that makes the best ramen in the world, Dattebayo!"
Shiro smiled, and they began walking together. However, as they made their way down the street, Shiro realized something: He didn't have any money in this world. The concept of ryō was foreign to him, and he had no idea how he could pay for the ramen.
Just as panic began to set in, a notification from his system appeared, much to Shiro's relief.
Guest got 10,000 points for becoming Naruto's first friend.
Does the host want to convert the 3000 points to ryō?
3000 points = 50,000 ryō.
Shiro breathed a sigh of relief and clicked 'Yes.' In an instant, he felt a bag of ryō materialize in his hand. He quickly stashed it in his pocket and followed Naruto, who was happily leading the way.
After about five minutes of walking, they arrived at Ichiraku Ramen, the legendary shop known throughout the village. Shiro had always wanted to try the ramen from Naruto's world, and now, he had the chance.
