Billionaire's Secretive Wife

Chapter 15: 15.

The guest's attention drifted to the door, as they watched Lachlan Stokes, the heir to the Stokes Empire, walk in, his tailored suit accentuating his broad shoulders.

His presence was dominating, he emanated an aura of authority and prowess, the soft hum of conversation in the room dying down as all eyes turned to him. As he walked into the hall, the businessmen who had come to make business deals and sign contracts with Lachlan immediately approached him, their footsteps echoing off the marble floor, but were stopped by his bodyguards who gave them warning glares to know their limitations.

Meanwhile, Lachlan's gaze was darting around the room, anxiously searching for a particular figure, Esther Morris, the maid who had caught his unwavering attention. The chandeliers above cast a warm glow on the room, but Lachlan's eyes remained fixed on the crowd, his brow furrowed in concern.

But after minutes of searching among the faces, she was nowhere to be seen. He turned to his butler, the municipal asking, "Where is Esther?" his deep voice firm but laced with a hint of urgency. The municipal who didn't anticipate Lachlan's question was left in daze, his eyes wide with surprise.

His response was shaking as he said, "Maybe she is outside," his voice barely above a whisper. He wasn't sure of his answer, and didn't want to lie to the young heir. Then the senior maid came to mind, her image fleeting in his thoughts.

He immediately called Nancy Li, who was surprisingly around, the sound of ringing filling the air before she answered.

"Where is Esther?" He asked, putting his phone away, the screen flicking dark as he glanced up to see the maid passing him, approaching Lachlan and the other Stokes members.

"Young Master Stokes, I have something to show you," she said, her voice respectful but carrying an air of importance.

...

As they approached the room, Nancy kept explaining to Lachlan the despicable nature Esther had, her voice rising in indignation, and kept ranting she was just a slut living off the Stokes money, her words dripping with venom.

Of course, he didn't believe it, but his family members did, especially his aunt Elena, who had despised Esther since day 1, her face twisted in disgust.

"I knew that, that girl was a liar," Elena retorted, her voice sharp as a whip, but was stopped midway by Lilith, her intervention smooth as silk.

"Aunt, don't say that, Esther is innocent. I don't believe Esther would do that.." her voice soft but firm.

"Why are you supporting her Lilith, that girl shouldn't be trusted. Today we would see her true colors once and for all," the words hung in the air, heavy with malice.
