Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Sacrifice
Zohn limped up till he reached the Tokyo Hunters Guild. His blood kept trailing on the path away. His face looked like it had seen and gone through hell.
He slammed his right fist on the gate. His weak body ached badly and he couldn't believe he was still alive. He knew he had lost a vast amount of blood from the fatal injuries.
Suddenly the gate threw open and he saw four hunters standing at the entrance. Their faces were bruised severely. He didn't have the energy to ask them anything, but when he walked inside and saw blood splattered everywhere, his nerves began to function properly.
"What in heaven's name happened here?" Zohn asked. The four men began to shiver in fear. Zohn stared at them, puzzled.
"Why are you grown-up men shivering like over-grown babies? Speak!!" Zohn thundered and it was then that one of the hunters walked forward.
"Sir, it happened so sudden. It... it..." the hunter stammered. Zohn stared at him, both angry and curious.
"Would you speak!" he thundered.
"We were attacked by a demon. It slayed all the humans and even the hunters. We are the only survivors and that was by sheer luck." the hunter said. Zohn stared at him, shocked.
What demon had the appetite and power to kill about a thousand humans and every Tokyo Hunter? A demon that could slay and kill four hundred hunters was more than demon. It was about more than a Legendary rank demon.
"Sir, please you look injured, what of the rest?" Zohn stared at them. Did he actually look injured or much injured.? Wait a minute, where was the demon? Zohn turned to stare at the Hunters.
"Where is the demon?" he asked, trying to seem unperturbed. Giving his followers a horrified look would demoralize them. They had faith in him and he didn't want to shatter their hopes.
"Well sir, we have no clue as to that. We didn't actually see it. It all seemed like a hallucination but it was real," the Hunter said. Zohn sighed lightly.
"Very unfortunate then. We have to evacuate this building. If that thing was strong enough to slay all our men, then it is indeed strong. I am not in a good shape to fight. Aaron and James, I hope will be back soon," the Hunters stared at Zohn in horror.
"Sir, what do you mean? What of Maczed and Marie? Are they... are they dead?"
Zohn looked away, not wanting to break down in tears again. He sighed heavily. "I'm afraid yes. Now let's just get out of here." Zohn said and walked out the building. He walked in but stopped when he noticed no one was following. He turned instantly.
"Do you want to die or what? Let's get going!" Zohn said, in concern . The four men were on their knees. They were crying evidently. Zohn stared in shock. He walked towards them.
"Our hope is lost. If Zohn demanded a flee, then we are all hopeless. If Maczed and Marie died out there, we can't survive. It will be better we die with fellow hunters. I will feel betrayed leaving them here," a Hunter cried out and burst into tears. Zohn stared at them in awe.
"Don't be dumb. Who says I'm retreating? You can see my left arm! And who says we are leaving our fellow hunters to rot in here . We will slay the demon and give each and every one of them a proper burial!" Zohn cried out to them.
"The Zohn I knew wouldn't mind going against a demon with one arm." a Hunter stated and a sense of guilt flushed over Zohn.
What was he going to do? He knew very well there enemy was going to be more than a Legendary rank demon and he also knew he wouldn't survive if he went against it.
Marie had died because of him. She had died because he didn't act quickly. That was not going to happen again. He eye clenched shut as tears poured down his eyes. Just then—
The heads of the four hunters bursted open and their bodies fell flat on the floor.
Zohn stared in shock and horror. The last hunters of Tokyo — just killed by an invisible demon? He had caused another death. As useless as he was he did nothing to save them. A flush of fury enraged him as he drew the golden sword of Marie. Its eyes glinted with pure revenge.
"You demon!! Show yourself, you coward!!" Zohn exclaimed in anger.
Suddenly, Zohn heard ripples of laughter hang in the air. He turned around trying to find the source of the laughter but he saw nothing—
"What do you hope to achieve in seeing me?" the voice echoed. Zohn grained furiously. "Your death of course! You ugly bastard, I'll kill you!"
"Really? I never expected that but let me leave you a warning. I only let you live because I do not want you dead. I have a mission of my own. Now leave."
The voice echoed on the sheets but Zohn stood still.
Just then Zohn coughed out blood. He looked at the blood in shock. Then his entire rear bleeding grievously. Zohn wiped it clean with his right hand. He wanted to move but suddenly felt too weak to move a limb. He collapsed on his knees as blood spouted from his ears.
"This is insane. It has the power to control the physical body by speaking. That's insane! What sort of a demon is this?" Zohn thought and just as if the demon could read his thoughts, it spoke out again.
"I am Hallucinator. I am a demon king. I am a god and no mortal can defeat me. I have come to rule and conquer the world that was once ours. I have come to revenge for my brothers," the voice echoed.
Zohn stared at the sky and his head began to bang seriously. He couldn't focus in mind. His brain kept replaying the death of Marie and the four hunters. All he could think of was death. Damn why was he thinking this way. Was he about to die? He felt a cold drop of water on his body.
He looked up to notice the heavy clouds. They seemed to be at the verge of out burst of rain. Then it began to rain. There was sudden calmness in the vicinity. And for some time, it was the first moment of peace in a few hours. It seemed like the heavens were lamenting with Tokyo.
How unfortunate they were? An entire city wiped out like mere toys. Only a handful were remaining. The entire Hunters apart from Aaron, James and Zohn were on their way to heaven. Heavens were indeed lamenting for the lost souls of Tokyo Hunters, citizens and most of all, Marie and Maczed.
