American Tax Officer

Chapter 259: CIA Jacks Up the Price_3

"Let's hear it."

"First, in addition to the favor you said you owed me, those five spies you mentioned aren't enough; we'll need ten."

"Ten is too many. Six at most."

"Eight."

"Seven, I can't do any more!"

"Deal!"

Elvis flashed a big white smile. The more spies captured, the more credit he could claim for himself. He added, "There's one last condition. Agree to it, and she's yours!"

"Speak."

"Since this woman is worth personal intervention from Director David, she must have something very important in her possession, right?"

David's gaze sharpened as he said, "What are you getting at?"

"Whatever it is, I want a copy!"

"Ha, Director Elvis, don't you think you're being a bit greedy?"

The price of a favor and seven spies was already a very generous offer. Now he wanted to share in the dirt from Lolita Island as if David was a pushover?

"What are you talking about, Director David? We're willing to hand the person over to you and even give you what you need, just asking to share a piece of it. How is that excessive?"

"Sorry, I can't agree to that!"

Blackmail material like this was valuable only in the hands of one person. If too many people knew about it, especially those in the CIA with no sense of loyalty or morals, it would lose its value. David naturally couldn't agree to that.

The expressions of Elvis and his two compatriots darkened.

Seeing the situation becoming tense, David spoke again, "Director Elvis, to be frank, this material isn't that significant for you. Submitting it will only earn you a merit at best. If you want recognition, I can give it to you anytime. Why fuss over this?"

Elvis managed a tight smile, making light of the situation. "Then why don't you enlighten me about what it is?"

"Director David, could you share some information with us about what it exactly is? You said we're friends, so revealing a little shouldn't be a problem, right?"

Jerome chimed in, sensing an impasse.

"It's nothing special, just some evidence of tax evasion involving officials and celebrities."

David hadn't lied to them; indeed, there was a significant amount of tax evasion involved. What he withheld was its connection to Lolita Island.

After exchanging glances, Elvis spoke, "In that case, we don't need to share it. But in exchange, you can't just owe me a favor, Director David. If there's trouble in the future, you'll have to put in more effort."

He felt like someone who had experienced a loss and was now trying to extract as much as he could.

"Of course, I said before, if you help me out, we're friends. If there's any trouble, I naturally won't turn you away."

David was currently looking to expand his network. If he could propel Elvis to a high position within the CIA for him, he would become another powerful political ally. Naturally, he was willing to accept. Continue reading at My Virtual Library Empire

With that promise secured, Elvis signaled Jerome, who promptly pulled out a key from his pocket and handed it over.

After receiving it, David gave Nisenbaki a look, and the two, understanding each other, immediately turned and entered the interrogation room to escort Maggie out.

David then discussed with Elvis the specifics of the spy capture operation before leaving the safe house and driving away.

"Boss, are we really just handing her over to him?"

Inside the safe house, Elvis glanced at Brod upon hearing his question and replied, "What else can we do, fight with him directly?"

"It's just that I feel there's more to what that woman has than what he told us. It isn't simply tax evasion data involving high-profile figures."

"I'm well aware of that, but one thing he said I do agree with. If I had gotten hold of that information myself, the best outcome would have been a simple merit. But if he is willing to help me wholeheartedly, I might achieve much more."

Elvis was irked by David taking his asset, but he still had high regard for David's capabilities.

If that guy actually made it to Washington D.C. Headquarters one day, having such a friend would pave the way for his own bright future.

So he considered today's loss an investment.

"Stop spacing out. Let's quickly finalize the seven targets and send the files to the Western Suburb Branch for his review."

...

"Director David, you really are remarkably capable!"

On the road away from the industrial area, Maggie couldn't help but express her admiration in the car.

Truth be told, although she had heard about David's recent rise and knew he had been promoted to head the Western Suburb Branch, she was still very uncertain about her chances of being rescued from the CIA's hands.

The CIA and the Tax Service are two entirely different agencies, and especially the likes of Elvis from the CIA, they loathed her for jeopardizing the Bear Country Station.

Yet, against all odds, David had managed to extricate her from the hands of the CIA, a feat not just anyone could achieve.

Ignoring her comment, David abruptly changed the subject, "Where's the thing I asked for?"

"I can't get it now. It will be available after 15 days."

"Stop the car!"

At David's command, Bucky immediately hit the brakes.

Turning from the passenger seat, David glared at her with menacing eyes and demanded, "Are you playing games with me?"
