A Fey Lord's Guide to Raising Monsters

Chapter 6: A Memory

A tall man with silver hair walks through an overgrown forest in the middle of the night. He is wearing a simple dark emerald robe that drags on the ground behind him. The leaves are so densely packed in the branches above that no moonlight reaches the forest floor.

He approaches a clearing, which stops at its edge. He speaks, his voice low and smooth. "Cronan. Wake up."

A burst of energy explodes from the center of the clearing as a towering beast standing on two legs appears out of a magic circle. Its thick white fur covers its whole body, with long arms reaching down to its knees, a short neck, and antler-like horns extruding from the side of its head. Its physique is so muscular that an ordinary person would flee immediately upon seeing it.

It stands about three times the height of the person who woke it up, and it seems disgruntled about being woken up so late at night.

"I apologize for waking you up, Cronan, but I need you to assist Leanan with a task." The man chuckles. "She managed to find where the kingdom of Naglasra is keeping its supplies for the upcoming war. However, she is struggling to destroy all of it."

The beast, Cronan, grins maliciously. Leanan flies out under the man's robe and sits on Cronan's head. Her gold eyes glint with determination. "Hey, big guy. It's been a while." She pats his fur. "Our plan for this mission is to charge in from the front. Those humans don't stand a chance against the two of us working together."

"Leanan, report back to me when the two of you have completed the task." the man says.

"Yes, Master Fergus Mor! We won't disappoint you!" She beams at him.

Cronan begins to lumber away slowly but heartily, causing the trees to tremble.

Sometime later, Fergus Mor stands on a cliff overlooking the woods. In the distance, he can hear Cronan's roars echoing through the trees. He grins evilly and decides to use the ability of another monster to gloat to the hero.

"Siorai, take me to the hero."

A dark rip in the fabric of reality manifests in front of him, and he steps into a small inn bedroom.

He smirked as he sneaked over to the side of the bed and looked down at the black-haired hero. "He looks so different when he sleeps. Like he is actually competent."

He glances around the room, and his eyes fall on an opened bottle of wine. He goes and picks it up and takes a swig. "Ugh, that tastes awful. This bastard doesn't know what good wine should taste like." He walks over to stand at the head of the bed and dumps the entire bottle on the hero's face.

"Ppfyurgh!!!" The hero wakes up splitting as he tries not to drown in wine. His eyes dart around the room, and the alarm widens when he sees the Lord of Monsters standing beside him.

"Good evening, Cian! Seeing you so carefree when your home kingdom is under attack is a pleasure." A nasty laugh follows shortly after. "Not like you can do anything about that since it's on the opposite side of the world."

Fergus Mor turns to leave back through the tear in space. The hero finally has enough of an act together to lunge for his sword.

"Nah, Nah, not fighting you today. Bye!" and he is gone.

"You darn fey lord!!! What did you do!" The hero's angry yell wakes everyone in the small inn.
