A Fey Lord's Guide to Raising Monsters

Chapter 5: Truth of the Dreams

As Eogan approaches the line of trees, he sees a bundle of red flowers clumsily flying through the air all on their own. "Master! I found several!"

"Great job, thank you."

"Heehee, no problem at all." she plops the flowers into his outstretched hand. "I found more than that, but I couldn't carry anymore."

"One, two, three, four flowers. That is plenty." He glances around. "You're still invisible. I don't know where to look when talking to you."

"Oops." She poofs into view near his hand.

Eogan frowns and says, "What should I call you? Do you have a name?"

She tilts her head in confusion. "I did have a name in the past, but you're supposed to give me a new one since you made a contract with me."

"Oh, okay. Let me think about it for a moment." He turns his eyes to the sky and thinks hard not to come up with anything. 'hmmm...What was the name of the wind sprite in that dream I had? Leanan, I think.'

"Your name will be Leanan," Eogan says after a long time of deliberation.

The sprite's eyes go wide as she freezes in shock. "Leanan..."

"Do you not like it?" the concerned ten-year-old boy asks.

"No, that's not it..." she pauses. "I'm just trying to figure out how you gave me the same name as my previous master."

Eogan stares at her. "Your previous master?"

"Yes, it was a long time ago, but he raised me from infancy. He was the best tamer in the world, probably even in history." Leanan states proudly.

Eogan frowns. "Truth is, I had a dream about a sprite named that, and I thought it would suit you."

"EH! A dream! Those can be quite significant to tamers." The speed of her wings quickens as she darts around in excitement. "Could it be that? Is that why?"

A confused gaze follows her movements through the air. "What?"

She stops suddenly. "My previous master was Fergus Mor."

Eogan freezes as an onslaught of memories fills his mind. His mouth drops open as he gasps from the shock and is unable to keep up with all the information flooding in.

As that is happening, Leanan's appearance changes. The color of her wind darkens to a sickly green, and her eye turns bright gold. The speed of the wind her body is composed of increases to the intensity of a storm. Eogan cannot see this as he passes out and is gently lowered to the ground by a wind conjured up by Leanan.

"It was that." She says happily. She sits on the boy's chest and watches his sleeping face contently.
