Chapter 7: Visit from a Doctor
Eogan slowly opens his eyes. An unfamiliar painted white ceiling gradually comes into focus. He groans and sits upright in the small bed. Glancing around, he sees Maeve sleeping beside him in a rickety wooden chair.
"Master," a whisper in his air. "I'm glad you are awake. Are you alright?"
He nods and whispers back. "I remember you from my previous life."
Leanan hugs his wrist while invisible. "I'm glad you have remembered."
He shakes his head slowly. "I'm afraid that there are still gaps in my memory. But I know who I was back then and will devise a plan moving forward."
Maeve shifts in her chair, groaning sleepily as she wakes up. Then she notices Eogan staring at her with an unsettling amount of interest. "Young master! You're awake!" She leaps out of the chair and almost falls over. "How are you feeling? Aine and I found you unconscious near the forest and couldn't wake you up. My mother has called for a doctor. And I sent word to your father."
Eogan grumbles so that only Leanan can hear him. "Why bother telling him anything? He doesn't care about me at all."
"Huh? What was that?" Maeve inquires, leaning close to hear him.
"Uh, Where are we?" A quick question changes the topic.
"This is my parents' house in the town of Fionnach. It borders the northern edge of the flower field." Maeve smiles. I'm glad my mother was home when I came with you."
A knock on the bedroom door interrupts their conversation. "Maeve, dear. The doctor has arrived." An elderly, plump woman with strawberry-blond hair and sky-blue eyes waddles through the door. Behind her is a tall gentleman carrying a big bag. His serious expression does not match the whimsical pastel green suit he is wearing.
"Hello, young lord. I am Doctor Aedan Leigheas. I'm glad to see that you regained consciousness before I arrived. Please remain calm as I give you an examination." he finishes his introduction by using the knuckle of his left ring finger to push his round spectacle back up his nose. He sets his bag on the foot of the bed and opens it up. One by one, he takes out strange tools that Eogan has never seen before and does not know their purpose.
"What are those things for?" Eogan asks, his concern growing. "Why are there so many?"
The doctor doesn't answer and begins poking and prodding the boy. Of course, this is met with a lot of resistance. After a bit, Doctor Leigheas frowns with worry. "This boy's mana meridians are already expanded to the entirety of his body. As if his soul has already reached maturity."
Maeve's eyes widen in surprise. "Doctor, that's impossible. He's only ten years old, and a person's soul doesn't stop maturing until they are twenty-one."
The doctor lowers his gaze as he contemplates the meaning. His eyes are hidden by his curly cherry-red bangs. "I'm not sure what this means, so I will research. I believe this is related to why he fainted."
Eogan feels a tug on his ear lobe and leans his head in that direction. An almost inaudible whisper enters his ear. "Master, it is because you reincarnated and regained some of your previous life memories. That's why your meridians are fully developed."
He covers his mouth and whispers, "That is what I figured. Don't worry, I can get out of this."
