Chapter 94: Beating Up the Sixth Mizukage

The Third Hokage clung tightly to the Scroll of Seals, so how could Ino possibly learn the Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags? Taking advantage of Chojuro's lack of experience, she seized the initiative. Despite the excruciating pain in her left hand, she formed hand seals once again.

"Water Style: Hidden Mist Technique!"

Chojuro, having just shattered the explosive tag with a swing of Hiramekarei, was still pondering the weaknesses of the "Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags" when he suddenly found himself surrounded by thick mist.

At first, he thought it was just fog on his glasses and instinctively wiped them. But then he realized the entire area was engulfed in dense mist.

Looking around, he quickly understood. He didn't even know how to react. This was Kirigakure's signature Hidden Mist Technique!

Chojuro, after all, was the future Sixth Mizukage. While he had his personality flaws, he was far from stupid. He quickly deduced Ino's purpose for using the Hidden Mist Technique at this moment.

"You're afraid of my ninja sword, and with your injuries, you don't dare to engage me in close combat, right? I absolutely cannot lose to you, a ninja from Konoha!" Chojuro gripped Hiramekarei tightly with both hands, his eyes scanning the surroundings. If any Water Release techniques came flying at him, he would strike back hard.

From the shadows, the mustached man watched with a look of exasperation. Using Kirigakure's signature technique at such a critical moment might show that she thought highly of their jutsu, but didn't she find it ironic? Shouldn't she be using Konoha's techniques to settle this?

Chojuro knew the weaknesses of the Hidden Mist Technique. Kirigakure had studied it inside and out it was nothing new to him.

He closed his eyes, focusing intently. The sound of water churning filled his ears, but if he listened carefully, he could hear the faint sounds of chakra stepping on the water's surface.

"I've found you!" Chojuro heard three distinct footsteps. Putting himself in her shoes, he assumed she would use shadow clones to attack while her main body retreated.

With a roar, he swung his sword toward the direction of the retreating sound.

"Hiramekarei: Release!" As he swung the sword, the flatfish-like blade emitted a faint blue light, and a chakra sphere over a meter in diameter shot out like a meteor toward the distance.

The explosive energy created a massive crater in the water, sending a towering wave into the air. Within the spray, a figure was flung upward.

"Got you!" Chojuro was thrilled. This cunning enemy had finally fallen into his hands.

He knew she wasn't skilled in close combat.

Taking three steps in one, he leaped into the air, charging straight at the figure with Hiramekarei in hand.

Ino's golden ponytail was soaked, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Facing Chojuro's assault, she seemed panicked.

"Give up. I don't want to hurt you," Chojuro said, swinging Hiramekarei with one hand. Despite his slender appearance, his strength far surpassed Ino's. With a single strike, he knocked away the kunai aimed at his forehead, then grabbed Ino by the collar with his free hand, speaking with authority.

Ino, seemingly out of options, raised her hands in surrender.

Chojuro hesitated for a moment, immediately sensing something was wrong. She wasn't the type to give up so easily.

It was a genjutsu! Had he fallen for it? Chojuro quickly disrupted his chakra flow.

The pause lasted only a second, but it was enough for Ino to unleash a massive Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu. The dragon roared, sweeping Chojuro into the air, higher and higher.

With a furious roar, Chojuro channeled more chakra into Hiramekarei, and a massive chakra sphere shattered the water dragon with a deafening crash.

As he landed, he felt a chill at his back. Ino, whom he had assumed was weak in close combat, used Water Body Flicker to accelerate behind him, thrusting a kunai toward his heart.

Hiramekarei was a massive sword, far less agile than a kunai, but Chojuro was intimately familiar with it. With a shout, he swung the sword in a wide arc, spinning halfway around to strike at his attacker.

Ino's move was a feint. She only half-committed to the attack, then threw the kunai to draw Chojuro's swing. She circled around to his front, her right fist clenched, and delivered a powerful uppercut.

"Bang!" Chojuro's glasses flew off, and his vision blurred. Before he could react, a flurry of punches rained down on him.

"Three against one, huh?!"

"And you brought a ninja sword in here? How shameless can you get?!"

Chojuro immediately retorted, "I was carrying the sword before entering the maze! You didn't protest then!"

Ino shouted back, "So domineering! Bullying a weak girl like me are you even men?!"

The "weak girl" continued to pummel Chojuro with punches and kicks.

While Ino wasn't physically strong, punching someone in the face was always going to hurt just not the puncher.

Chojuro, now furious, roared and swung Hiramekarei wildly. Without his glasses, his nearsightedness made him practically blind in the thick mist.

He had trained to compensate for his vision weakness, and though his swings seemed chaotic, they were actually quite precise.

Ino's back was slashed by Hiramekarei, leaving a deep wound, but she still held the upper hand. Chojuro took over a dozen punches, his eyes swollen, and his neck, shoulders, arms, and torso were riddled with stab wounds from kunai.

Ino was exhausted but gritted her teeth and pressed on. With a kick, she sent Hiramekarei flying. Chojuro, growing more tenacious, couldn't find his sword in the mist and instead drew Haku's katana, which he had been carrying all along. The two clashed for over thirty more exchanges before Ino finally landed a punch to the back of his head, eliminating the future Sixth Mizukage.

Having defeated the Kirigakure trio in succession, Ino was utterly drained. Her victory came from her versatility. Compared to her peers, she had few weaknesses.

"Pant, pant... Second Mizukage, did I... did I pass the test?" she asked, gasping for breath.

The mustached man, who had a decent level of goodwill toward her, sighed heavily. "These juniors have truly disappointed me. Good thing I'm already dead, or they'd be the death of me... Yes, you've passed the test!"

Ino pursed her lips, waiting for him to continue.

The mustached man held up three fingers, then thought better of it and put them down. "I know too many jutsu. You can only choose one. The techniques I know include Ninja Art: Steam Danger Explosion, Water Style: Water Ball Jutsu, Water Style: Oil Transformation, Water Style: [Unspecified], and finally, the secret technique Water Style: Water Gun Jutsu. There's also my most precious possession the summoning contract for my summoning creature, the 'Mirage.' Which one do you want?"

He rambled on, especially emphasizing the summoning creature with many adjectives.

When he finally finished, Ino spoke up. "I'll take the first one Ninja Art: Steam Danger Explosion."

The mustached man looked as if he'd been choked, his expression turning extremely unpleasant.

Ino nodded firmly. "Usually, the first technique mentioned isn't that great, right? Second Mizukage-sama, you said it so casually and quickly it must not be very powerful. Teach me Ninja Art: Steam Danger Explosion. That's the one I want."
