Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Come Forth, Shenron
Three days later.
New York - Assassin Alliance Headquarters.
Inside the conference room, Fox began the briefing:
"According to the latest intel, due to our elimination of six Elders of the High Table and their backing factions, the enemy has suffered significant losses. Now, the forces once controlled by the High Table are starting to strike back against them."
"Additionally, with our ultimatum to the remaining six Elders, they've decided to disband the High Table altogether."
"Moreover, under the coordination of John, several Continental Hotel managers—New York, Osaka, Monaco—have expressed intent to defect and join us."
Smith Dole raised an eyebrow, intrigued:
"The New York Continental?"
Fox explained:
"Winston's daughter inherited the New York branch. And a few days ago, John killed the Adjudicator who had punished them."
Smith Dole glanced over at John, who was sitting silently outside the meeting circle. After returning to New York and handing over the Dragon Balls to the Alliance, he had immediately sought revenge and killed the former Adjudicator in Winston's name.
Smith Dole thought for a moment, then asked:
"Any thoughts on the Continental?"
Wesley spoke up:
"I believe such an assassin platform no longer has a place in this world."
John then said:
"With the collapse of the High Table, the Continental can no longer uphold its codes. Some of them are willing to transition and become Assassin Alliance branches."
Everyone turned to Smith Dole. The final decision was his.
Tapping the table, he finally spoke:
"Their intel system, weapons manufacturing, and armor tech are all valuable. Effective immediately, notify all Continental Hotels: they are now under the control of the Assassin Alliance."
"They'll be converted into Alliance offices. Current managers will be evaluated—those who pass, stay; those who don't, are removed."
"As for any resistance... handle them like the High Table."
"Understood, GOD!"
Smith Dole continued:
"This mission was a resounding success for the Alliance, though we did suffer some losses. With the High Table dissolved, the underworld will descend into chaos."
"We'll regroup and watch the chaos unfold. If anyone stirs too much trouble—we eliminate them."
Then he turned to John:
"John, after everything that's happened, has your wish changed?"
John stood, answering firmly:
"GOD, my wish remains unchanged."
Smith Dole nodded.
"In that case, John, everyone—prepare to set sail. We're heading to international waters to fulfill John's wish."
Everyone responded in unison:
"Yes."
Everyone present was already aware of the Dragon Balls and the wish, thanks to Fox and Wesley under Smith Dole's discreet orders. They didn't understand why the leader would allow John to make a wish, but they respected his decision.
...
Open sea.
A decommissioned destroyer, now converted into a vessel, cut through the waters. Cross looked at Smith Dole and asked:
"These things... really grant wishes?"
Smith Dole nodded:
"You'll see soon enough."
Cross scratched his head, mumbling:
"Why not wish for a world without evil?"
Smith Dole eyed him up and down, surprised by the idealistic desire, then explained:
"The Dragon Balls aren't omnipotent. Where there are people, there will be evil—especially with newborns."
"New life brings new thoughts—light and darkness, good and evil."
Realizing even the Dragon Balls couldn't eliminate sin, Cross sighed.
Soon, the ship arrived at a designated point. Smith Dole called everyone to the deck.
He placed the seven Doragon Bōru (Dragon Balls) on the deck and shouted:
"Come forth, Shenron!"
The Dragon Balls glowed gold and shot light into the sky. The once-clear sky turned black as a towering green Eastern dragon materialized from the pillar of light.
Everyone—except Smith Dole—stood frozen, including John.
They had imagined a Western winged lizard. Instead, a majestic Eastern-style dragon hovered above the ship.
"T-That's Shenron."
"Incredible."
"So damn cool."
A cold voice echoed from the sky:
"You who have summoned me—I shall grant you one wish."
Smith Dole calmly watched, hoping this wouldn't attract too much attention. He had chosen not to summon Shenron back at their textile facility to avoid problems. Resurrection? In this universe... who knew if Lady Death existed?
Everyone held their breath as Shenron's gaze fell on Smith Dole.
After a pause, Smith Dole said:
"John, state your wish."
John stepped forward, dropped to one knee, and looked up at the great dragon.
"Mighty Shenron, I ask you—please bring back my wife, Helen."
A red light flashed in Shenron's eyes.
"Your wish is granted."
The next moment, a figure appeared on the deck.
It was Helen—John's deceased wife, alive and well.
Everyone stood in awe, finally understanding the power of Shenron.
The dragon dissolved into golden energy, splitting back into seven Doragon Bōru, scattering across the globe.
