Chapter 77: Young Master Lin Fan, Qingzhu Has a Favor to Ask
Lin Fan smiled. "Every formation has a path through it. While we may not be as strong as Lin Langtian and the others for now, that doesn't mean we can't find a way through this Sea of Fire Formation."
Little Marten chuckled and nodded. "You're not wrong. See those fiery paths splitting off from the fire sea?"
"You mean… those are the real paths?" Lin Dong asked hesitantly.
"Heh, all those side paths are fake. I bet Lin Langtian and the others thought the same thing as you and got trapped in the formation."
Little Marten let out a strange laugh.
Lin Dong rolled his eyes. "Then where's the real way?"
"Straight ahead."
Little Marten raised a paw and pointed toward the heart of the blazing sea of fire.
"…Seriously?" Lin Dong was stunned.
"The most unlikely place is often the real one. I have a special physique that isn't afraid of ordinary fire. I'll try first," Lin Fan said with a glint in his eye and a smile.
Without waiting for a reply, he stepped directly into the flames.
"Be careful, Brother Lin Fan!" Lin Dong cried out anxiously, eyes full of concern.
But once inside the sea of fire, Lin Fan didn't feel any heat at all. After walking a few steps, he turned back and said,
"This is indeed the true path. Let's keep moving."
Hearing that, Lin Dong no longer hesitated. He brought Huo'er and Xiao Yan and quickly joined Lin Fan.
Together, the two men, two spirit beasts, and a weasel spirit continued through the flames.
Though the sea blazed around them, it didn't harm them in the slightest.
Lin Dong reached out to touch the fire and found… nothing. It was like grabbing empty air.
"This formation is really something…" he muttered in awe.
"Tch. You're impressed by this? Wait till you leave the Great Yan Dynasty and see the true terrifying formations of the world."
Little Marten snorted in disdain.
Lin Fan and Lin Dong were used to Little Marten's arrogance and didn't take it seriously.
As they walked, they occasionally glanced upward and could see Lin Langtian, Wang Yan, and Qin Shi above the flames—though the three of them couldn't see Lin Fan or Lin Dong.
Then Lin Dong's expression shifted. "Brother Lin Fan, that mysterious woman from before… she's not in the fire formation. Did you see her?"
Lin Fan smiled. "That woman's background and strength surpass even Lin Langtian's. She likely saw through the formation and has already entered the tomb's core."
"Damn, then doesn't that mean she's already taken the best treasures?" Lin Dong looked anxious.
Lin Fan remained calm. "If we get it, we're lucky. If not, it wasn't meant to be. No need to be too obsessed. Let's just follow and see."
"…Okay." Lin Dong took a deep breath and steadied himself.
After a while, they reached the end of the flames and saw a massive bronze gate, slightly ajar—someone had already entered.
"She really got ahead of us." Lin Dong smiled bitterly.
Lin Fan nodded. "Seems that way. Still, we should take a look."
With that, he stepped through the door, Lin Dong following close behind.
Beyond the gate, the sea of fire was gone.
In its place was a quiet stone hall.
It was plain and spacious, with no lavish decorations.
At its center stood an open stone coffin.
Not far from it stood Ling Qingzhu, elegant and serene. Her jade hand was raised, holding a glowing green heart that pulsed like it was alive.
Every pulse of the green heart caused the energy in the hall to shiver.
Ling Qingzhu gently squeezed it, and beams of azure light shot out from the lotus beneath her feet, shining upon the Nirvana Heart.
Hiss hiss…
White mist rose as the beams struck the Nirvana Heart.
"Nirvana Heart…"
Little Marten's voice carried a hint of awe in Lin Dong's mind.
Lin Dong's eyes widened. His gaze locked on the pulsing green heart with visible yearning.
Lin Fan also watched, his expression unreadable.
"This is not a place you should be. Leave."
Suddenly, Ling Qingzhu's cold voice rang out. Her eyes, filled with warning, turned to Lin Fan and Lin Dong.
Lin Fan smiled. "I'm Lin Fan. We didn't come to steal your treasure. We entered by mistake and simply wanted to witness what kind of relic a Nirvana expert left behind. May I ask your name?"
"You got past the formation that even Lin Langtian is stuck in… impressive."
Though she didn't fully believe Lin Fan, she replied calmly,
"I'm Ling Qingzhu. Since you say you're not here to fight over this, I thank you in advance. But please refrain from any suspicious actions."
As she spoke, the Nirvana Heart melted into a glowing green liquid.
Ling Qingzhu warned them again, then lifted her veil slightly, parted her lips, and drank the glowing liquid.
Lin Fan watched, his gaze flickering—but ultimately, he said nothing.
Even if he revealed the hidden danger of the Nirvana Heart, she wouldn't believe him, and he couldn't explain how he knew.
Worse, it might make her suspect ulterior motives.
"You've kept your word. Now I must refine the Nirvana Heart's energy. Please don't interrupt me."
After consuming the liquid, Ling Qingzhu smiled faintly at them.
"Go ahead," Lin Fan nodded, then pretended to be curious about the stone coffin, moving over to inspect it.
Lin Dong sighed, feeling a little regretful, but joined Lin Fan in examining the coffin in hopes of finding something else.
But there was nothing of value.
Until—
"Hmm?" Lin Fan suddenly leaned closer to the bottom of the coffin, eyes narrowing.
Lin Dong followed his gaze—and his face turned oddly amused.
"…Since the treasure's already claimed, we'll take our leave."
Lin Fan and Lin Dong exchanged a glance, then turned to Ling Qingzhu.
Without delay, Lin Fan motioned for Lin Dong to leave.
He obeyed instantly, riding his Fire Python Tiger out of the bronze gate.
Boom!
Suddenly, the hall shook as Ling Qingzhu's body surged with violent Yin energy!
Within her, the pure Yin nature of the Nirvana Heart began overloading, turning into a terrifying flame that raged within her meridians.
"You despicable man!"
Ling Qingzhu's eyes snapped open. She crushed the stone coffin with one palm and floated up, blocking Lin Fan's path with her lotus.
"What's the meaning of this, Miss Qingzhu?" Lin Fan asked calmly.
With a wave of her hand, she slammed the bronze door shut and sealed it with a formation.
Then she looked at Lin Fan. "You knew the Nirvana Heart was dangerous, didn't you?"
Lin Fan replied, "I saw some notes etched beneath the stone coffin. They mentioned precautions when absorbing the Nirvana Heart. That's all."
"…Young Master Lin Fan, I have a favor to ask."
Ling Qingzhu's cold expression finally softened.
Lin Fan raised an eyebrow. "What kind of favor?"
