Chapter 125: Entrance Scaling Exams (7)
Once we had our fill with the empty fantasy houses, we made our way further and further to the palace. Nobody besides us could be heard or seen, causing an eerie silence to envelop us. It was as if we were in a completely different world, and the only people present were us.
But, that was only for the buildings surrounding the palace as once we reached the very front of the palace, we were greeted by a large crowd of kids. There had to be at least twenty out of the hundred in our class present here, attending what seemed to be a meeting… and well, the person who was leading the meeting was pretty obvious.
It was everyones favorite lier, number two, and fish lips… Evelyn Cresplitter. She looked natural as she led the crowd into talking about how they were going to capture me. And for some reason, as she started to discuss more extreme things, nobody dared to question her rule… as if she was manipulating their minds.
"She's controlling them, and I assume she's going to use them against me… so that means she's not only proficient in fighting but also mental control. I assume it's weaker than her fighting capabilities, but if she's able to sway the minds of the twenty or so kids present, then it must be pretty strong…." I muttered to myself, with Mari immediately overhearing.
"She's probably going to get them to search and hunt you down while she collects badges from others she's already bribed. I assume she'll take the king of the hill spot as well… so what do you want to do?"
"I'll take the king spot, and you guys clear out everything below… if you want, I can give one of you the king spot eventually. I don't really care where I place as long as I'm in the top 5. I heard you get benefits there, so… any offers?" None of my siblings spoke up. In fact, Asger and Petra just shrugged while Mari shook her head from side to side. "Then it's settled… you can collect as many badges as you would like. Just make sure not to let yours get taken, and ummm… leave some to filter to the top. I want some badges as well."
Everybody lightly chuckled before I scanned even more of the area. Upon confirming there was nothing out of the ordinary, I stepped up and looked back at Mari.
"Are you leaving now?"
"Yeah, but you all just wait here for now… [Pluto]." I muttered, stepping forward and then feeling my heart rate immediately drop. All of my emotions died out, and as my breathing practically went down to one long and slow death per minute, my presence was practically erased.
Slowly, I walked towards the group and, with my unnoticeable presence, blended in with the children, listening to the girl speak her persuasive speech. It was definitely heartfelt, and the way she not only used her entire body but also her vocal range to convey various emotions was more than enough to take control of everybody here.
Also, there was the matter of her using a mind-controlling skill. My mind felt a bit foggy, and as everybody around me had their eyes glow with a pink aura, I was able to narrow it down to one single skill: [Mind Control]... how surprising, right? Well, this was actually the best case.
There are many skills that allow you to control others mentally, and the most basic skill is [Mind Control]. Contrary to its scary name, it can only really be used to influence the thoughts of others according to the user's wishes. If the person they're using it on is weaker than them, it will have little to no effect.
"Now, everybody, please listen once more!" The girl's voice echoed through the empty streets of this capital. "Find Cyrus and bring him to me! If you are unable to capture him, then tell me his location, and I shall save all of you! If we succeed, I will take our entire class to the beach, or to the jungle, or to another city, whatever you want!"
The children roared as the girl's persuasion practically gripped them by their minds. They were all convinced that I was a bad guy and needed to succeed with this in order to quell some kind of evil… it was a bit extreme, but it did its intended job well.
As the children around me dispersed, I also dispersed amongst the crowd. I used this chance to enter the palace and practically fly through the halls until I reached the top floor. And according to the elf, I had to actually be on the roof and keep it under my control. It only took a bit of brainstorming, but soon I kicked a window open, jumped out, and used my strings of water to latch back onto the roof.
The very top of this palace had three pronged towers, but those weren't where the location was, but instead, a massive flat concrete floor that nobody had reached yet. It was beautiful and glowed with an aura of serenity as I looked over the entire exam.
"This place is sweet…" I muttered to myself before feeling what seemed to be an artificial breeze ruffle my hair and the earrings I was currently wearing. They still dangled from my ear lobes but weren't so heavy that they got in the way while I was fighting. "Welp… good luck, my cute siblings…"
…
(Evelyn POV)
As I saw my classmates run off, I looked up at the palace. The very top, where there was a flat piece of roof, was where I was heading to. I was sure some people were bound to be up there by now since it took me a while to gather most of the ones following me, but as long as Cyrus wasn't up there, I shouldn't have any trouble.
Cyrus was indeed up there. And as I climbed my way onto the roof, the first thing I was met with was a pair of dark blue eyes. They stared deep into my soul with a smile glaring at me with such eerie intent that I shivered instantly.
"Hey… come on… I'm on the ledge here. I can't even fight back," I nervously chuckled as one wrong move from this cold guy could definitely kill me. I was so high up that birds were practically pecking my hair, trying to get new material for their nests.
"What's up," The boy continued to smile and, strangely, put out his hand. I hesitated for just a moment, but upon determining that he had no ill intent, I grabbed his hand and let him pull me up. We were both enemies, yet we just worked together.
I brushed the dust off of my pants as I landed on my two feet. And here I was, with absolutely no trouble, at the very top of the stunning and fantastical palace. It was almost a bit too easy as I ran into absolutely nobody within the palace, even when I took my time. My aim was to collect a few badges on my way up here, but nobody appeared… although I now realized what had happened.
"That's… brutal," I muttered, seeing four of my classmates sprawled out on the ground, their nose bones shattered and blood pouring from their limp nostrils. They all groaned in pain as they grabbed their faces, trying to slow the bleeding as Cyrus just continued to stare at me.
"So, let's get at it. Only one person can be the king… I'm sure you know that, right?" The boy smiled, all ten of his fingers twitching as he stared at me, his eyes failing to blink for at least a minute.
"Wait, wait, wait! No! I can't win! I can't win!" I shouted, knowing I had to retreat and come up with a different plan. But, before I could even turn to escape, golden threads blended into the hard white roof we were on, yanked upwards, and tangled themselves all over my limbs. Continue your adventure with empire
Unable to even twitch a muscle, sweat began to drip from my forehead. The boy slowly walked towards me, his smile slowly fading, and a pair of cold, demonic eyes landed on me, seemingly ready to tear me apart.
"K-Killing is forbidden… killing is forbidden…" I reminded the boy, but it seemed as if he couldn't hear me as he soon reached his hand out toward my face. I nearly pissed my pants as his eyes dug into my skull, and his fingers grazed my cheeks, temples, and forehead.
"*sigh*... This is so boring…"
All of a sudden, he lowered his hand, and his expression turned into that of pure and utter boredom. He was bored. Fighting me. Fighting the entire class. Even with all of these rumors, he seemed as if he didn't give the tiniest of shits.
