Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Amnesia?! A Little Damage During Healing Is Normal
A few hours later, the Second Primarch's brain had been completely repaired.
It was as if he had never been injured at all, not even a scar remained on his head.
This time, Axis's experiment had been a resounding success.
After his Ki transformed into a gentler form, its healing properties had indeed improved. While it couldn't match Tien Shinhan's instant healing, it was still able to gradually restore injuries.
And this ability was only just beginning to develop; there was enormous potential for growth in the future.
"You really are something, my little cub. You never let me down," Russ said, his face filled with delight as he patted Axis on the shoulder.
While Russ had been a bit dissatisfied with Axis dragging out the fight and not putting the primarch out of the misery, now, he was entirely satisfied.
This mission had originally been unbearably heavy, since it involved eliminating a brother, a fellow Primarch of the Imperium.
But now that the Primarch had been healed, he wouldn't have to lose a brother, and the Imperium wouldn't lose one of its own.
Losing a Primarch was a tremendous loss for the Imperium, it was practically the same as losing an entire Astartes Legion!
He had never expected that the little cub he'd picked up would even possess healing abilities.
It turned out that Axis's Ki was not just destructive in nature.
In fact, it was quite similar to psychic powers. Who knew what other surprises Axis might develop in the future?
Russ was a bit disgruntled though.
'Maybe we should've discussed a plan beforehand,' Russ thought, thing back to his remark about setting his free, and his own turbulent emotions.
"I can't save those warriors from the Second Legion who were controlled by the Rangda mutants," Axis said, "This ability of mine was just developed experimentally."
Fortunately, his test subject was a Primarch, who possessed humanity's most terrifying regenerative and resilience abilities.
If it had been an ordinary Astartes, Axis's Ki might not have finished healing him before his brain was destroyed by that terrifying alien parasites.
Not to mention the primarchs own resilience in clinging to a bit of reason had inerventedly led to Axis taking taking the chance.
"It's fine. As long as the Primarch survives, so does the Legion.
"Besides, there are still a few hundred surviving warriors. Once we bring them back, they can serve as seeds for rebuilding the Second Legion. Give it a few decades, and the Legion will be back on its feet," Russ said.
The Astartes were mass-produced soldiers created by the Emperor.
These surgeries targeted adolescents between the ages of twelve and sixteen, a period when the success rate was highest.
Astartes existed for the purpose of mass deployment.
As long as there was a Primarch, the Legion would survive.
"By now, the crew on the ship must have noticed we're missing. They'll probably start looking for us soon. We'd better hide these two," Axis said, glancing at the two Saibamen.
He and the Wolf King had already been gone for seven or eight hours; the ship's crew must have realized it by now.
Besides, with all the commotion on the planet, there was no way the people on the ship wouldn't have noticed.
In the future, the biggest use for these two Saibamen's Ki would be to strengthen the Astartes of the Space Wolves.
In terms of combat, unless there was an emergency, they wouldn't be needed.
Saibamen couldn't increase their combat strength through training. Their fighting power was fixed from the moment they were born.
Their greatest value lay in producing more Saibamen seeds for Axis. Saibamen were an asexual, self-replicating species.
"Let's have them go back into the Landing Craft for now," said Russ.
Axis nodded and issued a command to the two Saibamen.
"Hurry up and get back into the Landing Craft. Stay hidden inside, and don't come out unless I give the order."
"Wah wah!"
"Yes, Master! And Father, too!"
The two Saibamen nodded to Axis and Russ, then immediately flew toward the Landing Craft.
A few dozen minutes later, the Second Primarch slowly opened his eyes.
He sat up and glanced around, looking a bit confused, scratching his head in bewilderment.
By this time, Russ had already walked over. He grabbed his brother in a bear hug and gave him a hard slap on the back.
"Hahaha! My brother, this is fantastic!
"I really thought you were done for. Be careful next time, don't let those damned xenos catch you off guard again!" Russ laughed heartily.
"You… who are you? Are you my brother? And… who am I?" the Second Primarch asked, still dazed.
He still possessed some basic knowledge as he could speak, but it seemed like he'd forgotten who he was and couldn't recall anything about himself.
"??? Axis, what's going on here?" Russ asked.
"Well, this was my first time trying to heal someone, and especially the brain. Some side effects are to be expected," Axis replied.
Honestly, if he hadn't healed him, the Primarch's brain would've been completely destroyed.
It was only the power of Ki that repaired his brain, combined with the Primarch's own incredible vitality and regeneration, that managed to pull him back from death's door.
A bit of brain damage was only to be expected.
After all, half of his brain had been regrown using Axis's Ki, so it was perfectly understandable that he'd lost some memories.
"You… are you my brother? Did you save me? What… what exactly happened?" The Second Primarch looked at Axis, then at Russ, asking for answers.
He could still vaguely feel a phantom pain in his head, but other than that, he remembered nothing.
"What should we do? He won't turn into a retard, would he?" Russ asked, glancing at Axis.
"I'm not a retard. I still have basic cognitive function, so please don't call me that. I've just lost my memories, but I'm not stupid," the Second Primarch said, a bit disgruntled.
"If he's lost his memory, let the Emperor deal with it. Anyway, he's alive now, let's send him back to Holy Terra and our mission will be done," Axis shrugged.
It was the old man's problem now.
'I just saved your son from certain death, you'd better thank me properly!' Axis thought.
Russ nodded; that was all they could do for now. As long as he hadn't turned into a fool, it was fine.
"Can you at least tell me what's going on right now?" the Second Primarch asked.
"You're certainly more talkative now. You used to be the silent type! Well, here's the deal: you and I are brothers. We're both Primarchs, created by our father. In a bit, you'll come back to the ship with me. You still have hundreds of children who haven't been corrupted by those damned xenos.
"Before long, your legion will be rebuilt.
"You really ought to thank Axis here. If it weren't for him, your brain wouldn't have survived, and you'd be dead for sure," Russ said.
The Second Primarch nodded at this, not understanmding a single thing, yet getting the gist.
Just then, a large number of landing craft descended from the sky.
As the lead Landing Craft opened, Kasha strode out, furious, with a squad of Custodian Guards behind her.
"Axis! You acted on your own without permission?"
