Unraveling the Alpha's Secret

Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Ivonne's POV

As we drove away from the hospital, I gazed outside the back seat window, the words of the doctor resounding in my head. 'How could Lincoln have sold the pack hospital to his uncle whom he shared a loathing for?'

The question sounded absurd even as I asked it in my head, therefore one could imagine how weird it would seem if word about that got around hence everyone knew they were arch nemesis.

Alpha Tobias was the Alpha of the next pack and brother to Lincoln's mother. From the stories I'd heard and things I'd witnessed, the bad blood began when the previous Luna fell ill and our pack was accused of neglecting the Luna because her husband wasn't always around and was too busy with pack duties to care for his wife.

It got worse after her death and Tobias had sworn to get revenge. When the current Alpha at the time died in an attack a few years later, it was said the attack was orchestrated by Tobias and since then there was a tension whenever the two men were in the same space.

Therefore my shock was justified after hearing the doctor's revelation. If what he said was really true, it went to show that there were really no emotions when it came to business.

"You seem bothered Luna," Lora murmured as I inhaled and exhaled deep breaths, thoughts swirling around in my head.

I didn't bother to give her a reply as I continued to gaze out the window as we drove along the pack roads. I watched the pack members carry out their daily activities, children playing around as evening had taken over from afternoon.

They must have returned from their educational activities and werewolf training. It was the little time they had to be carefree and prance around hence in the next few hours they'd attend to their homework and assigned housechores.

A smile appeared on my lips unconsciously as I watched them, recalling a time when I was just like that and wishing I could rewind time to experience such happiness even if for a brief moment.

Few minutes later the car rolled to a stop in front of the pack house and it seemed I was knocked back to reality by the sight of the imposing building.

Gathering every ounce of wit I could gather about me, I climbed out of the car as the others did and walked to the entrance, smiling at the guards and servants I encountered as I strolled inward.

"You can attend to other things Lora," I said to her as I attained the stairs. "I want to get changed and will send for you when I need you."

"But Luna you don't look so good and I'm worried," she murmured.

"It's all good Lora," I murmured not in the mood for a conversation hence all I needed was to get changed, draft out my decision and tackle Lincoln head on so I'd know what I'd be facing.

She offered me a glance and bowed turning away while I did, ascending the stairs. My expression remained stoic as I climbed the rest of the way up to the top floor.

I immediately diverted my path to my left and strolled straight for my room. Shoving the door open, I entered and slumped in a sitting position on the bed.

My heart felt heavy and I sensed a sob threatening to break free as an invisible palm squeezed my chest, all the emotions about to bubble to the surface if given the chance.

Nonetheless I held them all in and took in calming breaths, clamping my lids shut as I rationalized my thoughts and drafted out my next line of action.

After moments of sitting in the same spot, my answer was still the same. I had to confront Lincoln, I had to find out what game he was trying to play at if I had been played.

Hauling my weight off the mattress, I wandered across the carpet to my closet which had my clothes that had been diverted from the Alpha's room after I was chased out.

Pulling the door ajar I got rid of my blouse and opted for a t-shirt, alternating my pants for a pair of loose fitting black knee shorts. I was almost invisible to Lincoln so I no longer cared what I wore anymore.

Besides I would locate him on the same floor therefore I wouldn't be running into a few judgemental pack members. Also after the party the previous day I wasn't sure there would be any meeting being held.

Even if there was, evening had befallen us and so whatever gathering must have ended. With such resolutions in my mind, I got changed, shut the closet door, picked up my phone and made my way out of my room.

Now in the hallway, I directed my steps to where his study room was. Once I halted at the door, I knocked and waited for some seconds but got no response.

Rendering another series of knocks on the wood, a thick voice which belonged to Lincoln proclaimed. "Introduce yourself."

"It's Ivonne your mate and wife," I obeyed his instructions and introduced.

"Ex wife," he replied. "You've signed the divorce papers haven't you?"

"I did but-" I tried to say but he cut me off.

"Then we have no business or connection with each other anymore," he shunned, slicing whatever remnants of love I harbored for him in my heart.

"I know, however I need to discuss something urgent with you," I insisted in a pleading tone.

"What would that be?" He raised a question.

"Can I come in and discuss it with you?" I solicited, discarding all atom of pride in me. "Please?"

He was silent for a minute and I heard murmuring which made me wonder who was in there with him. Just when I was about to ask again he uttered a sentence. "You can come in."

I opened the door and walked in, my eyes widening a tad in surprise as I sighted Allison seated on his lap. I should have expected it, nevertheless it was still a shock.

"What was it you wanted to discuss?" He went straight to the point with his question while I took in Allison's attire of a black long-sleeved top and shorts, my brown eyes spotted something, rather I decided to let it slide, focusing on what I was there for.

"I want you to explain what you meant earlier in the day," I didn't waste time to say.

"It's nothing but what I said," he declared. "I never got your services so I don't see a reason to cash the check. Besides with the divorce papers signed, there's no connection between us."

"What about the mate bond?" I couldn't help and asked. I noticed his expression change as I diverted from my main topic. "Also you were there last night, what do you mean you didn't get any services when you and I both know exactly what happened?"

"How would he go to you?" Allison muttered in a scoff. "When I'm here to attend to his needs?"

"If this is a joke Lincoln I'd like us to put an end to it," I hissed, my brain splitting from what my ears were being fed.

"If you want to take it as a joke go ahead," he rolled his eyes. "Also for your information, Allison is pregnant with my child, so I guess I have no use for you anymore."
