Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires

Chapter 365: Necromancer’s Weakness

David had been inside the Graveborn Empire for some time now. His efforts hadn't been wasted — he had blended in with the locals, learning how the empire operated from within.

If one wanted to destroy something, first he had to understand it. He had to know where and when to strike to inflict maximum amount of damage.

Eventually, his path led him to the East Gate of the capital. He had observed them for a long enough time, he had seen the massive waves of undead that left it. However, he was patient; if he were to strike now, they would just return, so he waited a few days for them to go as far as possible.

Then and only then did he begin his attack.

And by the sight of the bodies all around him, it was clear his efforts had borne fruit.

'So this is how it feels to battle against undead,' he thought, smashing one zombie head after another.

It was both weirdly exciting and terrifying; it was rare for him to fight against someone that could attack with no regard for their physical body.

"Well, one man comes to mind," he chuckled as he threw another fist.

"Stop playing around," the Spectral Warden complained; it seemed it didn't enjoy the slaughter as David had suspected.

With a sigh of disappointment, David's eyes shone a more intense hue of purple, the energy around his body intensified many times over.

BOOM

Once the saturation had reached its limit, he stomped with his leg, creating a massive explosion of pure purple energy; the undead creatures that had surged him all disintegrated into nothingness, not even ash remained.

"Glad?" He turned throwing a look behind him.

The Spectral Warden only scoffed, unwilling to answer the man's question. Yet David knew the bastard hadn't stopped pestering him about how he needed to become stronger. So, seeing that David had indeed become more of a menace, the Spectral Warden had to be glad.

David's short chat was interrupted by an arrow shot by a skeleton.

With a graceful movement, he dodged it and was about to blast the undead with a ranged attack, but before he could, a devastating inferno of green flames descended from the sky.

"Zaroth!" There was no need to guess, David instantly recognized the reason.

"You are alive, that is good!" Zaroth waved back, with a smile on his face.

There was no need to say that David was happy to see his friend was here; however, that happiness was short-lived the moment he felt the ground shake below his feet.

"What is that?" he couldn't help but gasp in horror, the second his eyes landed on the colossal serpent that was moving with a terrified speed toward them.

"My future pet!" Zaroth declared, making Luna glide down next to him.

"Get on! No time to explain!" he shouted.

David didn't need to think twice; he wanted to get access to the capital and he was now being offered a ride to his destination, only a fool would refuse.

The second David climbed upon Luna's back, he noticed that there was somebody else on the mythical dragon's back. What was more concerning, however, was that the man was looking behind David like he was able to see the Spectral Warden.

"What is that?" Eldros asked with a frown.

"Get this man away from me!" meanwhile, the Spectral Warden shouted feeling eerie energy coming off Eldros — it was no doubt feeling the Divine Eye. Even if Eldros had yet to summon it, the Spectral Warden must have been able to sense it.

"Shut your trap!" Zaroth shouted to both of them, making Luna rise in the sky. Her wings flared with deadly beauty as each of her flaps was so strong that the nearby undead trying to stop her shredded in pieces just from the force of the wind alone.

They were in an unfamiliar capital, but considering that their target was the emperor, it was only natural to deduce that the man had hidden somewhere in his castle.

"Listen!" With his destination set in mind, Zaroth began to explain the situation to David as fast as possible. The more informed he was, the better his chances of being useful.

"A headless soldier?" David's eyes widened and fingers trembled momentarily as he heard Zaroth mention the Dullahan.

"Have you faced him before?" Eldros was the first one to notice the gesture, so he asked.

David nodded slowly, "Yes, one time I screwed up and faced the being, even with the use of the Abyss I barely managed to escape with my life."

"Did you become a wimp or what?" as usual, the Spectral Warden mocked him the moment an opportunity arose.

David would have cursed at the fucker if it weren't for Zaroth's next words.

"They reached us!" His voice was laced with concern, he spun his body around, his odachi already unleashed. Having learned his lesson before, he began to summon all of his beasts.

Not even a fraction of a second later, after Zaroth had warned them, the Dullahan appeared once again on Luna's back. And what was worse, Ragnar and Rynor were close to them as well.

"You take the Mad Prince!" Eldros shouted, unleashing his swords and summoning Judgment Gaze above him. He attacked the Dullahan with all his might, his blue eyes shining with fury, clearly wanting to pay back the being for humiliating him.

Zaroth would have argued if he had the time, but to argue in the middle of battle with your ally was a recipe for disaster.

Left with no choice, he willingly jumped from Luna's back, heading toward Ragnar, while leaving the beasts with Eldros in the hope that they could close the gap between him and the Dullahan.

"Well, I guess I will fight against you once again," David sighed as she shot towards Rynor, eyes lighting up with purple energy.

Now that they had reached the enemy's capital, they were able to fight it out, because once Luna threw off all the beings that had been riding on her, she soared to the castle where they supposed the emperor to be and in turn the magma serpent followed.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

Reaching the walls of the Graveborn's capital, the serpent smashed through them like they were nothing but mere glass, breaking them into countless chunks and headed for the dragon that had dared to hurt it before.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

Letting out a mighty roar of her own, she taunted the beast to head toward her location.

Zaroth had dared to spare the scene a momentary glance — even if it was a risky decision, he was glad he had done it.

From his knowledge, the Graveborn's emperor was a necromancer — it was the only way to explain how a single man was able to command so many undead over such vast distances.

Now that the three strongest fighters of the Graveborn empire were being held back by Zaroth and his friends, the emperor would be left defenseless.

This was one of the weaknesses of the necromancer class: while they could command an army of undead, their bodies were fragile. And with two mythical beasts about to clash above his castle, the man was sure to die in the ensuing chaos.

"You seem to be happy," noticing the smile on his lips, Ragnar spoke with irritation, as he slashed making the world lose color for a second.

Zaroth stopped the attack, only to immediately counter-attack.

"Yes, that is because I am going to be taking your Fragment!" he declared, his green eyes growing even more menacing.
